I think he/she was probably referring to the Outpost which is not a pavillion anyway.

Yes thats what I, he, was referring to. I thought that it was suppose to represent Africa.

It was going to be but they built AK and AKL instead. Now the WS plot is awaiting a country which may or may not be African. I agree with others that Egypt is a strong possibility.

While I was down there last week a cast member had said to me that Austalia and Thailand were being considered. I did not have much faith in that though.

I also think a South American pavilion would be nice. Maybe Brazil or Peru.

Oh, Peru, Peru!!! Get Inca Kola to sponsor it as part of a big push into the US! There are so many possibilities from Inca architecture to the distinctive Spanish colonial/Moorish architecture of cities like Lima. AND they already have a bunch of characters perfectly suited for a photo spot and a wacky little travelogue ride!

The President could fill in very nicely in the Mexican pavilion. He is fluent in Spanish.
Well, the last Mexican president Vicente Fox recently described GWB's Spanish as "grade school Spanish" so fluent might be pushing it!

The absolute worse country represented in WS IMO is Africa. I mean it is like nothing but a gateway to the next world showcased which I believe is Germany. IMO, they should take it out and extend Japan and or Germany, and maybe add a ride to the world that is extended. Thankfully AK already has a decent representation of Africa, if they didnt, then I would want them to extend WS's Africa and add some kind of attraction. I mean, its like there is no need for it if you already have a better one in the AK, just do away with it.

The purpose of WS is to showcase countries, not continents.

But if we're talking about wanting to see Africa represented in WS, then I think it already is. Morocco is in Africa. It seems like a Middle Eastern Country, but if my geography serves me correctly, Morroco is actually in North Africa. So Africa is not being excluded from WS, even if we get rid of the outpost.

And for those who mention an e-ticket roller coaster in WS, I think I disagree. Personally, I think WS is more suited for the kinds of rides that are already there: leisurely boat rides and movies. I think the Rhine River ride might be a good idea to put into Germany, for example, but I don't think roller coasters belong in WS.

Australia needs to be an AK continent...

Any new country in WS has to have a unique national architecture. If you can't imagine what a (stereo)typical building in Country X or Nation Z looks like, it's probably best that it doesn't get built as the new WS pavilion.

But that's part of the problem right there. You're right that we need to be able to imagine what the "stereotype" would be, but then there are all those pathetic dillwads that will boohoo that we're "stereotyping".

I don't know how many times I've seen people on here whining about the old El Rio ride that it's "stereotypical". So for all this whining and groaning about wanting us to recognize and celebrate other cultures, when we do just that, it's STILL not good enough because then people accuse us of stereotyping.

Basically, the whole WS is about displaying those characteristics of the various countries and cultures, that we are all familiar with and identify as belonging to, say, the Mexicans, or Canadians, etc, whether it be in food, architecture, culture, etc. But in our increasingly sensitive society, there is always someone out there who insists on finding something to get offended about. Sometimes I wonder if they'll eventually bulldoze WS and replace it with something else altogether because of people who insist on finding some kind of "stereotype" to whine about in the WS pavillions.

To be fair, I don't think the point of World Showcase was to simply confirm to people what they already thought about other countries. As I understand it, you are supposed to be learning about and experiencing other cultures. And, really, how often do people complain about how Disney represents a country? The only two cases I can think of are the old Mexico ride and Canada film because both did feature increasingly out-of-date stereotypes. Now Mexico has a light-hearted ride with the Three Cabelleros through Mexico sans annoying souvenir vendors and Canada has a film which pokes fun at Canadian stereotypes. Not really the dramatic problem you're making it out to be.

Still, it just comes with the territory that you have to be careful when painting an entire country in broad brushstrokes in a venue like Epcot. I'm sure there would be much loud complaining if the American Adventure was based on foreign stereotypes of Americans!
