Maybe bringing back an original writer will mean a focus on dinosaurs again, and not the bugs and other nonsense the last movie had.
Dinosaurs living amongst us had such potential. The concept was wasted, as was the joining together of two generations of characters.

The problem with JP is that the concept is done. JP, building a theme park with real dinosaurs and things go wrong. Cool. TLW, exploring more into how that worked, and protecting the dinosaurs it's a good expansion of the story that makes sense. JP3, it's just a rehash of people running from dinosaurs, trapped on the island. It's fine, but could have been better. JW, is just an expansion of the original idea but with the park open. Completely valid idea within the core concept.
After that, there's nothing else left. So they've gone off in all sorts of other directions which aren't what Jurassic Park was. It's just gone too far. They're dinosaur movies, sci-fi movies ect. Just related to JP elements. How can it ever go back and not just be rehashes? If anything where there is room to explore is a much smaller scale, even prequel territory but that's not a blockbuster of CGI everywhere.
It's similar to the Terminator franchise. It was done. The story was completed in T2. That was the complete story and concept. Taking ideas from it, they need a fully new story and idea that will stand on its own and be great. They never really tried. Some stuff they did like TSCC were an interesting take. Ultimately as there was no more story, they ended up just going back to cannibalising ideas, too much time travel and rehashing. No direction because there's no more story of the core concept left.

They'd only do that if it was a failing / dead franchise. The last PG-13 still made a billion. There's still plenty of gas in the tank for this franchise with the right film.

So, this looks like another soft reboot where the Dinosaurs are once again relegated to an Island?
Feels a lot like the first two films, dealing with dinosaurs set loose in an isolated area.
It's not about locusts, so that's a plus.
Feels like it will be a generically fun Jurassic movie that doesn't do much different than what we've seen before.

It's dinosaurs, causing mayhem, so it should be at least a spectacle. I'm a sucker for dinosaurs so this should at least be a fun popcorn flick. It looks like there's some sort of mutated dinosaur, if so, that's kind of meh. Hopefully there's a good reason but it will probably just be, it was a failed experiment.

That's what started driving me away from this saga. I realize the entire premise derived from mutations of DNA from frogs, mosquitos, whatnot. But I personally enjoyed it being humans vs dinosaurs. The original JP hasn't aged a day for me. Still a classic and one of my favorite movies ever made.
JP 2 and JP 3 were ok, even with their flaws. After that it just started getting too silly (imo).

And as much as I love the original film, I wonder if they'll ever do a remake of it alone, basing it solely on the Michael Crichton novel... which is straight-up HORROR.
I doubt Hollywood would ever have the spine to try it, but my gosh that would be the stuff of nightmares on the big screen. (The nursery / infant scene!!

Plus the Dennis Nedry encounter with the Dilophosaurus, which makes what we saw in the original film seem PG-rated.
John Hammond being a jerk /villain and getting eaten alive toward the end...
It would be different for sure, and I doubt Universal would want one of their most famous IPs to be known as disturbing horror. But you never know with remakes these days.
