JUNGLE SKIPPER CANTEEN, ANY GOOD?

Best Sit Down food in MK. We love it and my kids ask to eat there each time we return to WDW. Be sure to request Robert (from Atlanta) to be your server. He gets all the cheesy jokes, and does an incredible job. There are some kid options on the menu.

Dined there on my last trip in September and liked it. Loved the theming and the CMs are great. We enjoyed the food but found the portions small for the prices (what a surprise, right?) Would definitely dine there again.

On a side note, we went early afternoon, walk ups with no ADR, and were seated immediately. It seemed like people still were not really aware of the restaurant being open.

Ate there last week, wasn't displeased, was nice to see a somewhat more adventurous menu than other restaurants in the park. However, the kitchen seems a bit liberal in their use of salt. I've found this to be a problem all around the parks and resorts though.

I have dined there 3 times. 1st time was after they opened and was great. The next 2 visits were after they tamed down the menu. To me, not as great, but still a good experience.

We ate there on our last trip. It was a very low-key, OK experience. Nothing over the top. The building is kind of weird with oddly themed dining rooms. Food? They don't have a huge selection on their dinner menu, but I wasn't able to enjoy the food much at the time because of some stomach issues. So, meh. If you want to try it just to say you did it, then I say go for it, but as for me...probably won't do it again. Just not my cup of tea.

Had lunch there today on my second visit. The menu has changed a little but I still found the food quite good and a welcome change from what you get throughout the rest of Magic Kingdom. I like that some of the menu items have a little kick to them instead of the bland but for the ketchup everywhere else.

The adult beverage menu started today. I did not partake today since I would be driving shortly after and need to use power tools this afternoon. They about 5 different wines and 2 different beers available. Many people complain that it's expensive. While it's certainly more expensive than your typical counter service restaurant, the service was very good and the food was wonderful.

For those that have enjoyed your meal, would you mind chiming in on what item(s) you enjoyed? I have only read reviews of the char Sui pork which have all been less than positive

We just booked it for our trip in April. Glad to hear good reviews on everything. The menu looks pretty good and varied, can't wait!

Ate there in March before the menu changed. My wife and mother-in-law were totally uninterested before we went. I enjoyed what I ordered and they ended up loving the fancy mac and cheese. Plus, the two side rooms are wonderfully themed. Give it a try!

I had the falafel appetizer, which I didn't enjoy. I didn't realize that falafel is basically hummus, and I don't like hummus. I'm sure it was prepared well - it just didn't work for me. The steak, however, was excellent, perfectly prepared, with a chimichurri sauce that really brought out the taste of the meat. Excellent lunch!

Falafel and hummus are completely different things. One is a cold spread, the other is a fried, crunchy ball. If your falafel looked, tasted, or seemed like hummus in any way, something was very wrong with your appetizer.

They're both made out of chickpeas, which is what I don't like. I guess I should have said that the falafel was hummus-y.

If the falafel was at all hummus-y, I wouldn't eat it either -- that's bad falafel!
But I had both the falafel and hummus at Skipper Canteen, and the falafel was hot and crisp with a nice spice.

From allears.net -

Falls Family Falafel - A secret recipe of chickpeas, garlic, onions, lemon juice and herbs with white bean dip and tomato-cucumber salad

The chickpea is the main ingredient in hummus, which is why the falafel was hummus-y to me. Whether it was hummus-y or not, I still didn't like it. But again, that was just me - I'm sure it was prepared well.

Just got back. Really nice. Jungle Cruise theme and tie ins were very nice. I'd say it's like if Trader Joe's opened a sit-down restaurant, this would be what it served. Bits and pieces from ports around the world. It fits well into the area, like Jungle Cruise, the personality of the staff makes it. They are trying to tell a story here.

The food was good. We shared Family Falafel and Orinoco Ids's Cachapas, both of which were nice and shareable. I had the Char Siu Pork which was a nice Chinese BBQ style. Others had the Tastes like Chicken Because It Is (Think General Tso's Chicken but done for fine dining), Nile Nellie's Noodle Bowl (Like Pho) and Skip's Beefy Baked Pasta (basically a Greek Pasticio). I think it's a nice meal, probably the best sit-down food in Magic Kingdom.

Was there in a September and had the cachapas appetizer, that we just devoured. I had the noodle bowl with duck for my entree, and it was large and very filling. Although I get quite spoiled when it comes to Pho in my area (and friends' moms that make the dish at home), it was similar to that and quite tasty!

We greatly enjoyed our meal. The place itself is fun, and worth a trip to bathroom to walk around and see all the details.
We had the steak, the heads on shrimp, the duck noodle bowl, and the sustainable fish ( salmon). We ALL raved about the food.
