Why do the Skippers not talk during the temple/cave section of the ride? Is there a reason? I saw on another forum that someone said the script called for silence during the scene. Is that true? If so, why? @marni1971 ?

Did they used to have a speil for this part or is my memory fooling me ?
I think I honestly remember when the spiel was more on the serious side for the entire ride, like they would say a warning of sorts before going through that specific scene. Didn't the jokes begin just a few short years ago?

I noticed that too on my last trip to WDW that the skippers didn't speak during the cave scene, and almost was a sort of break for them. But the silence is odd, and I preferred when the skippers would sing "its a small world," or the song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when they get on the boat, or make a joke about there being a gift shop on the other side. Just anything over silence and the skippers checking their Apple watches.

Edit - I must confess, the Jungle Cruise is one of my favorite rides because of how great the skippers are, so when they are out of the show it just becomes a boat ride with bad animatronics.

It was silent (by script) when I was a skipper in 1993...
Since you were a skipper, Ive got to ask a question. I have heard that back in the day they would do "adult Jungle Cruises" if it was late and only adults were on the boat. Basically more raunchy type of jokes. Is there any truth to this?

I was told this by a Club Level concierge CM who said they were a skipper back in the day.

I don't know for sure why they go silent in the cave - but I'm glad that they do.
I love Jungle Cruise, and I love the bad jokes.
But the break in the cave, and getting to hear those temple sounds takes me right back to my first trip in 1971.
I remember spotting all the details, the monkey upside down, the cobras, the glowing eyes of the tiger!

I too have heard this. Back in 1994 my brother-in-law had us ride a multiple of times, but each time there were kids on board. The dirtiest joke I heard was, do you want to hear a dirty joke, many said yeah, the skipper said mud.
