Recently returned from WDW and me and my parents, who tagged along on my trip, went on the Jungle Cruise twice - once during the day and the other at night. Two different skippers, two different attitudes, maybe because it was day vs. night.
The night cruise director had the same spiel but ad-libbed a little bit. For instance the "backside of water," she also said you can see this at home, it's called O 2 H. Also the funniest thing was when we were docking for the night. There were two other skippers on the dock and one of them had a noose around her neck, well over her face. She immediately put it down and said they are going to teach the boat some new tricks. Follow me here -- boat is backing up and the noose is around the anchor tightening the rope. The skipper says ... "and we are learning, and we are learning, and we are learning ... and now it's taught. Good boat, good boat." Taught as in tight.
Another time a skipper said she wanted to point out some of her favorite plants. Sure she pointed to this and that and oh, that over there. Those are cool. But she also added, look up there, see that? That is hibiscus. Then she points lower to the waterline or so. She says, see that those are low-biscus. And that over there, pointing to the water, that is sea-biscus (
as in the famed thoroughbread Seabisciut).
I remember skippers used to call the "head salesman" Chief Name' (nah-mey), because that's his name. Now they call him Trader Sam, a call out to the Disneyland Hotel bar of the same name.
There are other "winks, winks" when skippers go off script to kick the tour up a few notches, and it's all fine with me.
Always and enjoyable ride. Can't wait for my next trip to hear something else and laugh all the way down the Nile for niles and niles and niles.
Kungaloosh!
