You live that close and they didn't know what the Jungle Cruise was?? Whoa! What do they teach in those Orlando schools? Math?? :p Disney knowledge is way more important.

I'm happy for him! We'll all have to find him and secretly ask him if he taught math before because he "looks smarter" than the average skipper.

Dang some people are so stupid. i dont see how people dont know wut Jungle cruise. Anyways i dont blame your teacher about being a jungle cruisse skipper. I think that is one of the best job in the park. Yo get to make jokes and ride in a boat for a really long time. Unfortunately the boat is on a track but hey.

Geez.. he must really love Disney, espcially if he is giving up his teaching job for a job in which he will get less money (probably). But.. hey if its his dream.. good for him!! :D

Yeah.. I agree!

A couple of my friends crashed their car not so far from Orlando and they said people didn´t know what Epcot was there. I thought they were joking... but I guess it´s true, the world doesn´t revolve around Disney. :animwink:

I live 10 minutes from the parks and most people I work with have never been to disney or maybe went to the magic kingdom a few times when they were young. I could mention the jungle cruise and they would have no idea what I was talking about, but they would probably guess disney since they know I go there quite often.

So..

If you get a skipper that asks the following question:

If two boats leave the dock in opposite directions one with a 2.5 meter a second rate of movement and the other with a 5.6 meter a second rate of movement and the resistance of water is ………………………………. and so on and on and on and on

You know this is the guy.

sadly, most locals tend to avoid WDW like the plague. I honestly had no clue which parade was which until I started working at WDW

Ok, as someone who HAS WORKED on the Jungle Cruise I can attest that it is a great time but to quit his real job and make a career out of it? I don't think so. Was this guy a -ahem- more mature fellow who was retiring or was this a young dude?

A kid at my school (45 min. away from WDW) thought that the 100 YOM celebration was for the MK's 100th Anniversary.:brick: :brick: :brick: :brick:

I find that pretty weird. Okay sure after a couple of years, you could loose some of your interest in themeparks, but there are so many parks. I mean if you love coasters: IOA, Sea animals: SeaWorld, Magice: Disney.

Also aren't most of the people in Orlando working in the Hospitality business. You schould atl east have some sort of "love" for themeparks .

Maybe I feel it that way because i moved to Orlando to (temp.) become a member of the themepark environment.

yeeeah, but you weren't born into that environment (or were you?) anyway, just because you were born into a certain environment, doesn't mean you have to have some sort of love for it. it depends on if they have a choice to be in that environment....you don't have a choice where you're born, so it's optional if you love it or not...if you move there, then you should probably have some sort of knowledge/respect for the place. i really hope all that makes sense! take me, for example. i was born into the rural/country hick environment. i'm surrounded by camouflage and talk of hunting...i hate both! you walk into most fast-food resturants in my area and you'll hear country music blaring...i hate country music (most of it). point is, you don't have to love the environment you're born into. just because you had the desire to move into that type of environment doesn't mean that the people who've always lived that will love it as much as you do. :)

btw, is that YOUR car in your avatar? that's such a cool car!!
