June Compared to July............? (crowds/heat) PLEASE HELP!

I posted a poll here last week on what time of year to go after my initial honeymoon trip was cancelled due to Volcanic ash closing UK airspace!

I asked when I should try get to WDW again and it seems that October was the answer!

Unfortunatly............... work commitments are not going to allow us to get there then, so it looks like July! (8th - 22nd)

This is NOT our preffered choice but we just don't know when else we will be able to go without leaving it for at least a year! :veryconfu

Anyway, what I am asking is are the crowds / heat much different to June? Our last trip was in June 2008, and we managed the weather / crowds pretty well by getting up early and going back to our room/pool early afternoon (storms) then head back out til late.

Any advice is appreciated................

I've never been in either June or July but I'm pretty sure that July will be more busy, and more crowded. However, the parks are open longer and everything is running at full speed so that will help to control the crowds.

What I'm trying to say is that whilst it may be busy, you'll still have a great time so long as you're not expecting to just walk on rides and turn up for a parade 5 minutes before it starts.

Hope it all works out for you - I would have been devastated if my honeymoon was cancelled!

Sorry you have been able to rebook yet. We have been in July...heat was ok for me..but DH and DD's hated it. As long as you can take the heat July will be busy but doable. Get up and get out early...take a swim/nap break and stay out late. Take advantage of Fast Passes and even single rider lines. (dd's and i do all the time and 9/10 times we end up together riding at the same time) Have a great honeymoon!!!! :)

I will agree with others. Get up and into the parks as early as possible. Plan to head back to your room by noon, at the latest. Eat at your resort, if possible, or just before you leave a park. Then swim for a bit, shower, and take a nap. Don't plan on going back to the parks until late afternoon, or evening, but plan on staying until closing.

Remember to take extra clothing, because your clothes will be soaked due to either sweat or getting caught in a thunderstorm. Also bring at least two bathing suits (3 is ideal) because it takes forever for things to dry due to the humidity. Same with footwear.

Hats, sunscreen, water bottles, etc are a must! I use a tiny travel size atomizer with a folded paper fan to cool down - much easier than lugging around the bigger plastic fan/spritzer things, and they fit in my purse in a ziploc. A small microfiber washcloth is handy for wiping off sweat.

Think for yourselfer
I have never been in June, but i was there in July of 09 and it was not as bad as you would think. The crowds go heavy around mid-day, but we were always back at our resort sitting by the pool by then. When we went back at 5ish, the crowds were manageable. If you look at the historical averages for temps in June and July they are basically the same. So the weather should not influence your decision at all.

The only thing I will say that was a negative on our trip was the South American tour groups. They were the most obnoxious annoying guests I have ever come across in all my years of visiting WDW. I can not even begin to describe how awful they were. If June has a lower infestation rate then July then I suggest June.

I went last July and I would agree totally with the notion of getting up early, a big midday break and then evening touring. Utilize fastpass early and often.

Also, something that I think is worth the extra expense is to by moisture wicking clothes. Reebok makes shirts like these and if you are wearing tennis shoes purchase moisture wicking socks. You'll be less likely to get blisters and your feet won't get all sweaty.

The heat was only really bad a couple of days. So choose attractions like Hall of Presidents, American Adventure, Philharmagic etc. for the middle of the day so you can get into some air conditioning.

We went last July and we never felt the need to go back to the room. We were in the parks from open to close every single day for 5 days straight! The temps were in the upper 90s, and it STORMED every day! We never really noticed major crowd issues, other than at TSMM and Soarin', but we used FPs so it didn't really affect us.

June or July

Most of my visits to Disney have been in the summer months of June, July and August. I have found that early June and late August are the best times to visit Disney during the summer. For early June, it is less crowded and yes you have the heat but I find it to be less humid. For late August, I found it to be less crowded than early June.

As others have mentioned, getting up early and taking advantage of those late night extra hours is the best.

Enjoy Your Trip!

I agree. We have been in July and honestly, I would put my honeymoon off for a year if it meant I didn't have to relive that nightmare.

You can survive it if you follow the advise others have given, but its not as magical.

I'm not getting it?!? We have been in July many times (even on the 4th) and have never had any issues....maybe I just have better luck than some?

I'm sure you'll find a lot of naysayer's on the summer months - we used to be one of them. But, like you, we went in mid - late June of 2008, and it was just fine. YES, it was hot and humid. YES, afternoon pool times or air conditioned attractions like American Adventure and Hall of Presidents were necessary. YES, crowds were bigger than October.

BUT...

There are just two of you. I went with 17 and had a marvelous time. Two would've been much easier. You can still make some great reservations and don't be scared off by people who've had bad experiences. I, for instance, would NEVER tell someone to go during Spring Break. We thought it was a nightmare - and WAY WAY WAY worse than any summer trip we've made. But I'm sure there are plenty who've had amazing spring breaks at the World.

Bottom Line - you deserve your honeymoon the way you want it. If you want less heat and no crowds, wait a year. But if you want it now (and I think you deserve it now!), take a summer honeymoon. I don't think you'll have a bad time - and if you get stifling hot, take the afternoon off! If the park's crowded - hop to another. Don't let people freak you out - you'll have a wonderful time! :sohappy:

We'll be there from the 11th to the 18th in July for our honeymoon too! Congrats - I was heart broken for you when your flights were cancelled, I would be devastated!

We thought about putting off our honeymoon as well because of the crowds and heat and decided to go for it anyway. I've been several times during the summer and its never as bad as some people complain it is. Just take it easy, expect that splash mountain will probably be a 45 minute wait or more, get in the AC when possible, and enjoy your new spouse! From my experience, in the summer the major rides all have 45+ minute waits during the day and then 20-30 as the crowds dissipate in the evening.

I'm planning on spending much of our honeymoon by the pool with a nice big frozen adult beverage.

I have been in both June and July and July was Hotter and more crowded. I also seemed to remember seeing more of our "favorites", the brazillian tour groups. They were everywhere.

We've been in June, July, & August. You will have heat and groups, but they are pretty easy to avoid. You can still get great dining options. We are going July 17-24 and I called 6 days ago and had 3 different choices for Le Cellier and got all the other reservations we wanted so that shouldn't be a problem for you. Where are you staying?

We were at WDW over Easter break and stayed at Pop because we knew we would be at the parks early open to close. This summer we are Yacht club because we know we will want mid day pool breaks and we want to be able to get back to the resort quickly. If you plan accordingly you can have an amazing honeymoon. Remember its your honeymoon and not just another trip.

I totally agree about spring/easter break. We have been at all different times of the year. A few years ago we went for spring break. Never again. My sister and I and my 2 daughters got in line to ride Kali River in AK. My husband and son got in line to get an ice cream. When we came off the ride they were further back in line than when we left! He told me none of the line cutters spoke english. The whole week was like that with tons of teenagers who had no idea how to act.

Sorry to hear about your honeymoon, but here is my 2 cnts worth on this subject...

Although i have not made a trip to WDW during the summer, I have read books that stated that the summer months are the most busiest. Althought with you going in on the 8th helps you miss the July 4th crowds!
The best times to plan a trip are from late September thru October; the weeks after Thanksgiving up to the mid week of December. The best park days going those weeks are Magic Kingdom: WE/FR; Epcot: Mo/Th; DHS: Th/Fr; AK: Tu/Th/Sa...according to the travel books!

IF YOU ARE ON A BUDGET AND NEED HELP WITH OTHER PARTS OF YOUR TRIP, private message me and I will try to help you as much as I can!
