Journey of Water featuring Moana coming to Epcot

Fair enough! But I can see the corporate philosophy behind GotG, Harm, Rat - IPs and a cloned ride, all of which can be promoted heavily. Even Play! makes sense as yet another attempt to use a large, empty space by shoving characters and screen-y “games” into it - very 21st century EPCOT. But Moana… you can’t promote it much, it doesn’t eat people, it doesn’t sell merchandise in a sterile room, but it still costs money… it seems like a glorified landscaping improvement. I guess I just don’t see the Chapek logic here.
Maybe they still care about guest satisfaction, and minor quasi-attractions like this contribute to it?

Can't wait for this to open and be 100% about Moana and why you should buy it in ultra special edition 4K and nothing at all about nature, inspiration, or discovery.

I'm not sure what I hate more about IPCot. The lazy insertion of the IP itself, or the cynical lipservice they give the IP as to "why it fits with Epcot". Ultimately I think the latter part is more insulting. "Yes, the nighttime lagoon show is now a cartoon singalong, but look! We put the original logos on flags at the entrance! It's the same Epcot you fanboys always loved ;) ;) ;) !" Sadly, many "lifestylers" and "influencer" types are falling for it and doing mental gymnastics to believe it.

Yeah, but they never said it would be an IP experience. With Ratatouille, and Harmonious, and the Play Pavilion, and Guardians, and Frozen Ever After, and Nemo, and Gran Fiesta Tour... Disney has insisted that they're actually a perfect fit for Epcot and will expand upon the park's legacy and mission statement. The only one that actually did this was Gran Fiesta Tour.

Also is there any new photos of the contruction? I guess I'm really wondering if they have started on building anything rather than just clearing dirt

So it is all a plot... if you make the parks horrible for a couple years, then you can do anything and say it is better than it was... Like the Communicore building they just tore down... Let it languish, tear it down and claim it is way better when they could have just added relevant content...

Yeah, just like the plot that Disney purposely let their transportation system rot so that they could charge money for the park-hopping vans.

Except, at the same time, Disney was spending hundreds of millions to upgrade their transportation systems with new buses, dedicated lanes, eradicating stop lights with flyovers, installing bus-tracking monitors at stops, completely realigning and refreshing the arrival experience at all the parks and Disney Springs, refurbishing all the monorails, buying new boats, installing the Skyliner....

What a conspiracy you've uncovered!!

And failing to mention a pandemic going on for nearly two years.

Like the Communicore You dont realize building they just tore down... Let it languish, tear it down and claim it is way better when they could have just added relevant content...

The total throughput of Communicore (the original one with the video reservation screens) can be handled by a single modern handset. Unless you work in the communications industry, you probably are not aware of exactly the scale of the facility reduction made possible by the advancement of technology. So instead of a typical telco switch that services a city (5ESS) of 100,000 people taking an entire building, it can now be serviced by equipment taking the space of a standard refrigerator.

The space isn't required... its no longer an impressive mass of Nixie tubes, clattering paper punchers and readers, and massive evaporative cooling towers. It can all fit on a table in the corner...

Shall I quote Shelly's Ozymandias for relevance?

Then repurpose all of that available space for guest use.

I'm honestly really intrigued about how this will turn out. Could be a pretty neat addition if it is done correctly.
It's just a glorified space holder. It looks to be on par with the 'leaping fountains' next to Imagination.....with some extra foliage to keep the customers happy who are always clamoring for more shade at EPCOT. :)
