I liked the canopies, probably because I don’t remember them not being there (I was there before them, just don’t recall that space), but I enjoyed the patterns they made on the concrete, and they always said Epcot to me.

It wasn’t until I joined this site that I realized that my enjoyment of them wasn’t universally held.
I would take back the canopies in an instant if I could also get back:
Innovations east and west
Club cool
The fountain of nations
Illuminations

I know, I am such a dreamer …..

I'm actually the consistent one here. Plus I know which times to make a point or not.

Example. GotG on ToT at DHS or an oversized show building at Epcot or Tomorrowland. I am very happy with the end result if those were the only options.

And the Tron add isn't turning out half bad at all either.

Your point was the RoE barges ruined the sight lines in WSL. Not sure how changing fields to a completely different one is somehow you making a point.

I have a bad feeling the new club cool replacement will not offer free samples.

I am hoping harmonious will be extra good at night to make up for the ugly permanent barges that have killed the views across the lagoon during the daytime.
They do squirt water during the, at least they are supposed to.

Folks better get to EPCOT the first couple of weeks of operation. I suspect these barges will be problematic and maintenance nightmares. I have seen some video of early testing and I can see some of the nozzles are not working already.

I have a bad feeling harmonious will be WDW's rocket rods.

At least they can just sink them instead of leaving behind a People Mover corpse. And honestly, unless the daytime fountains are by some miracle not utterly hideous, I'm kind of hoping for complete mechanical failure in the 2 to 3 year range. The sooner they become nonfunctional, the sooner large parts of the infrastructure can be hauled away.

The left the wand and the hat up for 15 years, pal

...these need to be in for 30 to work the kinks out...minimum

2 to 3 years. I love your optimism!! I truly hope you are right. I think these will fail long before that, and we will watch B or C modes of the original show within months of launch. They will keep "something" running, a shell of what it started as.

Yeah, but they didn't have to do anything. An at least semi-functional lagoon show seems pretty core to their EPCOT strategy.

I could live with just the ring failing, at least. 🤷‍♂️ I ask for so little.

I’m not sure the argument about burned up/gone/dismantled firework barges or a canopy nobody noticed much has any relevance now...but it’s good to practice these kinda world class oratory skills.

i get Epcot love and wanting purity. But we lost that battle long ago...like Gettysburg.

here’s what happened...

nobody could bother with edutainment anymore...the kids were so bored. Where’s the magic in that??

so Mike wanted to jazz it up for the kids...but he was past expiration and cranky....and couldn’t print money like phoney market days (now)

so then Bob came in and decided you need characters...and much higher priced food. That’s ALL U NEED, BABY!!! Get some!!!

so we can blame the management right? That’s what changed Epcot and sent it down a path that had gotten a lot of buyers remorse?

no. It’s us...as usual. Addicted to festival booths. All year...so concerned with doing the same things every time/year with escalating prices that there’s no way a billionaire ceo can resist, right? Sold a lot of vacation club with that action too...

and fireworks!!!! Oh my gosh do we need those fireworks. Ten years of replacement discussion, followed by 2 years of Construction discussion, followed by a year of lockdown desperation on timing of them...

all mom needs is fireworks. Ten minutes...an hour a year if you’re a real zealot.
Forget the C,D,E tickets That could have entertained everyone for hours per day for the last twenty years....didn’t need to build them...so they didn’t.

and of course the kids can’t be bored. Not a second when your ticket, food and lodging costs go up about a buck a week.

why do I tangent on the history of Epcot?? Because it is written. They take us where we allow it to go. It’s only what DH, DW, DD, and DS wanted.

and I battled for YEARS on this in another playground...I have some witnesses here. It was going to continue...more acceptance is more license. Booths all year have no downside...and frozen was such a phenomenon that there’s NO way after you break the country theme and shove it in there that it would fall back to the pack like mermaid and beauty and the beast and lion king....things stuck in the appropriate parks.
Nope...won’t happen.

I hope I’ve diverted everyone...made your head hurt...caused you to fall asleep, etc. so the misguided snit can now end.

we got sparkly gunpowder bursts AND ip rides coming to Epcot now, BABY!!!

and that water thing 👍🏻

I may be in the minority here but I actually like most of what is happening at Epcot. GotG Coaster looks like its gonna be a pretty epic first of its kind thrill ride, Play pavilion looks like it would be great for kids (even though covid has postponed it) Space 220 looks fantastic in every way imo, New center spine area/revamped communicore looks like it will be cool, Im looking forward to what the interactive water walkthrough moana stuff is, France Pavilion expansion looks great, New gelataria seems nice, im all for new popcorn stand if its cool flavors, new entrance/lighting package looks fantastic....the only thing im not sold on is harmonious barges. Everything else Im on board.

Everything I just said is prob well above 1 billion dollars invested into epcot for this rebuild and I cant wait till its done!

I see the destruction of Comunicore and the Foutain of nations really removed the idea of a "hub" just past Spaceship Earth. I liked how open it was. You could see all of the pavilions and the WS beyond. It built anticipation.
Do you have pics that match your description, because this post is so outside my experience that I'm assuming brain damage on my part. There were peeks at what lay beyond, but only from very specific angles in that hub. It felt like an area reflecting on itself far more than something that built anticipation for regions beyond (just pulled up Martins' Communicore and it matches my recollections well.) If you liked how opened you found it then, how is what they're doing now going to be less so? Also, while some are complaining about the awnings, it was and is Earth Station's design that blocked about a third of Spaceship Earth from the hub while Communicore did so from Futureworld East and West.

You're trolling, right? You think that the new coaster is a "first of its kind thrill ride"? What does that even mean?

The new spine is quite literally landscaping. Not that I don't appreciate good landscaping when I see it, but you're truly excited for the destruction of experience over some rockwork and water features?
