Journey of Water featuring Moana coming to Epcot

They also featured the model of this in the Epcot preview area inside The Odyssey pavillion that further gave me the impression it was all part of one big cohesive area.

IMO I don't think Disney did a great job explaining their plans for Epcot's makeover. Granted things get changed and altered up to the last minute all the time, but between this and Play!, a lot of us couldn't quite figure out what these new plans consisted of.
JoW is part of World Nature while the canceled stuff is World Celebration. They were supposed to be different areas thematically.

It was in the original plan without Moana and Moana was added later.

I guess what you are saying it would have been removed from the original plan if it did not get an IP attached to it.

Today, it’s very possible.

There was never any announced plan of this attraction without the Moana theme. Is it possible that this was first conceived by some Imagineer as an IP-less walk through about the water cycle? Sure, maybe. But before it ever got anywhere near being greenlit, Moana was already part of the pitch.

I am, I love wandering around the treehouse, Tom Sawyers island, and areas like the maze in DL Paris too though so this is right up my alley.

I think Disney needs more areas you can just explore without waiting in a huge line first.
me too, i really like slow paced pretty walkthroughs and am def looking forward to this as well as the rest of the center spine and communicore hall being done. I think Epcot will be so much nicer with the new spine and all the trees and greenery

Am I the only one who thinks the walkways are kinda tight? Considering the amount of crowds we can probably expect for the near future? Or that, overall, the space seems rather small? Maybe it's just me . . .

Yes! If there's one thing Epcot has lacked for years, is trees and shade. I was never a fan of those "futuristic" coverings that didn't do much of anything to shade from the Florida sun.

Not any tighter than the trails at DAK. I'll reserve judgment on "how small this is" until we get POVs. All we're seeing is stuff from afar, where you can see all elements at once.

You know an adult beverage Kiosk (themed in the appropriate South Sea motif) adjacent to this Journey of Water would be a nice addition to the drinking around the world (unofficial) challenge.

Is there anyone who's actually excited about this "attraction" when it finally opens? Especially since it's been budgeted to hell from its original plan, which wasn't all that exciting either.

Putting aside of course, the end to all the construction behind Spaceship Earth.
I wouldn't say I'm excited as if it's a ride, it's not meant to be exciting.
I am however, very happy with what they did with the space and find it immensely preferable to any indoor structure they could have gone with.

It's easy to be confused since art like this came out along the way too, where every part of the original CommuniCore was leveled aside from the current location of Connections. Also, we didn't initially have access to the site plan, and Journey of Water was especially difficult to read in some of the artwork.
