So in other words, “yes, we inflate/deflate (lie about) wait times in the parks to manipulate you but don’t be mad….we want you to think you’re getting your money’s worth by shelling out extra for Genie +. We’re actually doing you a favor! You’re welcome!”

Gaylord palms will validate if you spend money at one of their restaurants though. I can't remember how much it was maybe 40-50. This doesn't count when they're hosting their Christmas event. I want to say we ate at Moor for my wife's birthday this year and did not have to pay for parking.
Gaylord Palms is great!
We went to ICE for many years when they first started doing it. We even got "Season Freezin" passes.
By 2019 it was of course, a MOB FEST!
Then the pandemic hit and they held similar NON ICE events each year.
I did a quick Google and -
ICE IS BACK in 2022!

We made a huge mistake in going last year.. We did little research and it turned out to be basically a kids event and then the cirque style show upcharge event.. However we did get to explore the resort and found that we wanted to go to moor for dinner.. I still want to go back and try Old Hickory Steakhouse soon.

The Gaylord is beautiful resort.
Agreed, the NON ICE events were kiddy stuff, and nothing compared to a real ICE event.
I guarantee its goanna be super MOBBED this year even though they are using time slots.

Of course it helps the customer experience. An across-the-board price increase would have negatively impacted every single guest of the resort. Disney probably could have raised hotel rates to make up the revenue and still offered "free" parking, but they would have lost some bookings in the process.

So charging for parking becomes an optional price increase for only those guests that choose to use that service. Being more targeted limits the impact to the wider audience of guests and shields (most likely the majority) from a price increase.

But they didn't reduce room rates when they removed "free parking", so they raised room rates without the PR-negative announcement that they raised room rates and started charging for parking. So they got everyone to pay more, plus extracted more from those who want or need the flexibility of having a vehicle. And let's be honest - they could have raised room rates $10/night and kept free parking and no one would have batted an eyelash.

They are want to have their cake and eat it, too, and they get to do both because people just keep going along with it.

I don't really think that's true. People are very susceptible to strategic pricing. It's the reason why things are usually $2.99 instead of $3.00.

A Disney hotel at $290 a night is still better than a Disney hotel at $320 a night. People will only see the first number.

But $299/night is better than $290/night. ;) Pricing is very much psychological, it's rather fascinating.

I still have my doubts that many would have cancelled their vacation plans if Port Orleans went from $275/night to $289/night on their chosen nights. Or if their room at an All-Star went from $179/night to $189/night.

So the 25% discount on rooms the rest of this year - Is that to get past 85% occupancy to the real profits or just to get to 85% occupancy?

You will never convince me all those years of not charging a parking fee the fee was buried in the room rate. Seems like they are charging double for it now. It wasn't long and they raised the rate in typical Disney fashion.

If housekeeping which was daily cleaning was buried in the room rate I was all for it. Now the room rates are higher and housekeeping hardly cleans the room if even that happens.

That's because they are. At Disney you paid a certain rate, that was well above market prices, because of all the "advantages/perks" you received. It's double dipping, money grabbing, nickel and diming, Disney magic!

I agree in theory .... But the hotel room rates have gone way up too (and while removing Magical Express, free magic bands, etc)

So if they added this while not increasing the room price, then easier to take, but they are getting it both ways

Bob documenting all the posts from people saying "going to Disney is my therapy" so he can write off everything as a charitable expense
Back when the Haiti earthquake happened and many lives lost, TWDC donated $100K to the Red Cross. A number of cast who work at WDW are from Haiti.
