Josh D'Amaro comments on rising prices and "additional" or removed services: "An inevitable result of progress"

Attendance is down. But we don't really notice due to how the parks are being run. So to us it feels like a wash with probably an inferior product than before.
Didn’t just say at stockcon 2 weeks ago that attendance was Not down? Maybe I misfired on that one 🤔
But I haven’t seen any evidence that crowds are lower?

Who’s not coming? Annual pass holders because they aren’t currently selling them?
They are warring against APs…really no mincing words on this one.

But even if they seem to have struggled to refill their own hotels - and there have been a lot of rumors of that - that’s not indicative of “reduced attendance”. There are 25 hotels on property and 500 off…
And the dropping off magical express and the genie system takes the incentive away from paying Disney’s hotel rates some.

Well, they can't lie during those updates when it comes to numbers...that would be illegal.
They can’t lie about accounting matters that would mislead investors…

That has zero to do with internal figures that they never actually disclose…or frankly with “prospectus” materials either.

Corporate America has has restrictions eased on them for 40 years…

And I watch Disney fans on forums increasingly mistake the SEC and treasury more and more for an Orwellian Computer every single year.

We need to stop this “they can’t lie” complete bull bunk. They are free to “not disclose” and spin on most matters.

I happened to work with execs from the early days of DVC and this was assuredly not the design/goal. It was to make a lot of money in a “partnership” with the loyals that always freely gave it to you. And it worked well after early hiccups.

I don’t feel exploited…but that’s because it’s been about 20 years. I know many where it’s 25+…

Would do it all over again.

But the ones that bought 2015? Or 17? Or 19? Feel very lied too and some are dumping. I didn’t have those thoughts 5 years in.
First 10 years of our ownership were fine. Ever since the crap peddler was installed as head of P&R… our opinions have been on a steady decline. My next trip has an ulterior motive and after that, I’m done until there’s a reason to go back. I’m patient, I’m willing to wait… or just go elsewhere.

Attendance is down due to the current pandemic, not because $lappie kept raising prices and reducing offerings in his deluded way of “showing value”.

Well, if it was on an investor call (which is the implication) and they lie, that's securities fraud.
Only if it’s intentionally misleading with intent and knowledge contrary and causes a response that defrauds. And there are ways to parachute out of most “projections”

I feel like everyone needs to move closer to New York and learn just how much of an Wild West cattle town it really is…

The whole raising prices to lower crowd levels is ludicrous. The first thing they do when crowd levels are light is stop running rides at full capacity and reduce staffing and reduce staffing and close restaurants. The benefit to the guest of a light crowd day is negligible.

I think it’s how you look at it. I’m a DVC owner (resale) and I don’t see it as exploit. Everyone who’s bought DVC obviously plans to go a lot and all I see DVC as is betting against the insane prices of hotel rooms OOP

But I guess everyone sees it differently
What if we told you the hotel rates were insane to make DVC look like a better deal?

I agree with you, but, I would never even suggest anyone move closer to New York. Not these days.

Hard numbers are one thing. Generic terms i.e. "lower attendance" is another.
So the CFO has a motive to lie about attendance in this statement?

Christine said, "Demand at our domestic parks continues to exceed expectations with attendance on many days tracking ahead of 2019 levels. Our continued focus on improving the guest experience through the use of our reservation systems to purposefully manage capacity versus simply increasing volume has the added benefit of improving yield and optimizing overall economics. So, even while the average daily attendance at our domestic parks across the first recordings of this fiscal year was slightly below 2019, we have delivered significantly higher revenue and operating income over that same time period. This approach also provides flexibility. With levels we can adjust if demand were to shift. Per capita spending at our domestic parks also remains strong. Increasing 10% versus Q3 of fiscal 2021 and over 40% versus fiscal 2019."

“Strong attendance”
“Spending is up”
“Increase investment”
“Aggressive reinvestment”

All phrases you hear on damn near ever quarter call or annual meeting that have no financial anchor points to tie on too. No benchmarks for comparison.

Nothing is a lie when you have wiggle room you can drive a truck through.

We are lucky enough that we can use DAS to skip the standby and while it’s amazing, it made me notice the crowds so much more when it comes to Quick service restaurants.

They are run like absolute cattle markets and these places just can’t cope with the demand. We stayed at AKV this month and the Mara was a prime example. Constantly struggling at peak times

It’s probably part of their thinking but they then can’t moan and start considering DVC guests as ‘unfavourable’ because we chose to buy in long term.

By the time both my contracts expire, I will have probably dropped over $100k in dues but of course that isn’t profit to Disney so maybe I am unfavourable.

Probably why merch and food is so sky high to make up for it

If only they took my advice of building a 5th gate at WDW AND a new US park. I guess my voicemail to Bobby was mistakenly deleted. Better try again.
