Minor fixes? Not quite. You can be sure that anything that causes the Haunted Mansion to close for an entire summer season is major or they would put it off til winter 2008. "Minor fixes" that are pushed off indefinitely for years become major problems. Or have you forgotten when Big Thunder at Disneyland crashed?

yes lol...have you been to the MK lately? You might wanna check out the Country Bears. Or the Diamond Horseshoe. Remember when the Liberty Square Riverboat was closed for almost a year? That's due to poor routine maintenance. Then check out the debackle that is Tomorrowland and a Space Mountain that has needed a refurbishment for years, a Haunted Mansion in even worse shape, and a Peter Pan's Flight that is woefully behind the times and still using aluminum foil in its volcano unlike its superior sister ride at Disneyland. Then step in the Buzz queue around 8 pm on a busy day (I don't blame Disney for this entirely, but it gets absolutely disgusting in there some days--far more than other queue lines--which is not at all up to Disney standards). Then try to hop a ride on a Main Street Vehicle...if you can find one.

Well said :sohappy:

Hopefully help is on the way starting with the Mansion

because we know disney is such a small company that is on the verge of bankruptcy right?

Gimme a break Disney is the 2nd largest media company in the world. In the old days when Disney was a small company they did constant refurbishments of the attractions. Your telling me now when the company has more money than it ever has in its history they are unable to keep up with refurbishments? BS I say.

I say, now its about putting money in the stockholder's pockets versus just reinvesting. Its about driving stock price.

A wise executive would know that it is possible to achieve both. Reinvest in the parks will result in people having better experinces which leads to better word of mouth (that brings more people on property) and return visits from existing costumers. This drives up revenues which will result in long term payoffs for investors and larger gains.

that almost seems like something walt would have done, make the company $$, yet keep the guests happy & not by just throwing a bandaid on the problem. maybe one of these new execs will realize this. hmm maybe if we tell city hall, or contact guest relations enough they will get the idea we feel mk is a busy, yet unmaintained piece of junk these days.

Think of it this way, the cost of an e-ticket like Everest equals the cost of a big budget movie. And look at how Everest has helped AK ticket sales sky rocket. It does not take a rocket scientist............

I guess American Idol has finally gotten a foot in at Disney. With Catherine's father now heading up Epcot, look for Chris Daughtry's dad to find his way in to Animal Kingdom and Kelly Clarkson's mom to head up MGM. I just hope that Taylor Hick's has no part of MK.

Disney did a great job to have a new Epcot President.

Absoluetly. Jim Macphee is was a strong supporter in bringing the wand down and even accelerated its removal process. He has also made an attempt to get the marketing department to throw at least a small party for Epcot's 25th. which unfortuantly those idiots in marketing declined.

Hopefully tons of people will show up at Epcot on October 1st and complain to guest services that there was no party or recognition of the milestone which will help get these idiot people fired and give Macphee more support to do great things for the park.

Too bad he isn't the president of Epcot.

And, I'd like to point out, that the same sources that everyone claims to be the first to break the news of the wand coming down did so BEFORE McPhee was named VP.

I didn't realize that McPhee was getting the credit....
That's not the case. It was in the works well before he took over.

Contrary to popular belief, park VPs don't have the final say over stuff like that. They wish they had that much stroke.
I tend to blame them when I see them failing to go to bat for the betterment of their park (P.H. and Pirates...maybe Space...), but all the really large decisions and budgetary issues are kinda beyond their reach.

My insider source on another message board told me that Macphee was responsible for getting the wand removed sooner rather than later and he also made a big thing of it when it was originally going to happen quitely without any notice.

He may have found a way to budget it into the plan sooner, that's true.
As for the "big thing"....I didn't know it was a "big thing". Any publicity it's getting now, it would have gotten later.

True, publicity of some sort would have emerged once people looked up and noticed the mammoth hand of Mickey Mouse being dismantled...but I think the fact that publicity of any kind preceded the removal is actually rather a significant thing to take note of. Remember, none of us much expected pre-removal press releases of any kind so this speaks volumes about MacPhee's intentions--that is, to let the fans know that someone out there is listening.

Discussion of the wand removal may indeed have been going on in earnest before MacPhee was named VP, but all signs now seem to indicate that he was the one who was most taking into consideration the opinions of Epcot fans. He joined the bandwagon late, but in the end he played no small role in the wand saga and it's pretty obvious he did it for "us" (sorry to those who don't include yourselves among the wand-haters :animwink:). Whether or not he'll be some sort of "savior" VP and continue to dazzle us I'm not prepared to say, and I'm certainly not going to get down on my knees and worship at the altar of MacPhee over this one issue...but his efforts to fast-track the wand removal and his obvious hand in the publicity it's gotten were clearly to make a statement to fans first and foremost. That's been rare at WDW of late, and I appreciate it.

I agree. The strings a park VP has (or even a resort President for that matter) aren't as powerful as some may think. The joys of corporate bueracracy I guess. But, I do think that Jim has demonstrated a bit more gumption and had stirred as much as he can. So, he is coming forth as a passionate leader for his park. I think anyone that goes in with that attitude shows good potential... but, with the powers that be, that can be stifled quickly. He deserves some credit, but that credit needs to be placed where it is deserved. He is merely one of many making decisions. But, he seems to be trying to take leadership as best he can.

So... A for effort maybe?

Well when I make VP at Disney I will be will be VERY POWERFUL.

A-The first name policy will be changed only for me to be called MR.SHAUN.

b-I will have the biggest office at Team Disney.

c-I will block off an entire row of parking at Team Disney so no one is to park any where near my Range Rover.

d-Al weiss, Jay Rasulo, and Bob Iger will all come over to play golf at Celebration Golf after sipping Martinis at my Estate size home in Celebration.

e-A full page inside the park guides will be devoted to my bio with a full page pic of me(with mouse ears)

well ok ill wake up now!
