Jim MacPhee is new Epcot VP

Gotta love it. He doesn't even have a nameplate yet, and people are already trying to pin failures on him...I'd love to make ALL the decisions at my office, too, but alas there are people above me in the food chain. He will do what he can, but I wouldn't expect anything radical. That has to come from more senior management, really.

You do realize, of course, that we were being sarcastic in blaming him.

I thought it was obvious sarcasm too.

I do not even know one thing about MacPhee other than he is the new VP of Epcot.

I guess I need to use the roll eyes smiley more...

I sure hope he celebrates Epcot's 25th. Hey, I've got a great idea. Maybe he could put another Wand up on the opposite side of Spaceship Earth. It could have a 25 on it, that would be perfect. What's that e-mail address for guest relations again?

There will be no celebration.

How do you know that? Rex confirmed that there was no celebration. He's GONE. The new VP probably recognizes EPCOT's true nature, seeing as how he's worked since before EPCOT Center opened. He's probably gonna try and do something, not like Rex. Remember that Rex was the one that said there was no celebration. The new VP probably will start up a celebration.

Don't jump to conclusions.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason disney removed him was because he created a ruckus by saying Disney will not recognize epcots 25th.

ACTUALLY, an operational VP is not one that would make the decision. They're just the person that passes on the information. They are in charge of day-to-day operations, not planning or deciding on celebrations or events. Remember, Brad Rex was the Vice President of Operations, Epcot. Anniversary-type of decisions at WDW usually come from Celebration.

I'm not jumping to anything. There will be no celebration.

The VP has a little bit more authority than that. Brad Rex deserves all the credit in the world for fighting for the funds to get Soarin into Epcot. That attraction was originally all but a lock for Animal Kingdom.

Its a complex structure, but the VPs have a pretty substantial amount of power over their parks. Take a look at how poor the Magic Kingdom has been operated compared to Animal Kingdom, for example. It's almost hard to believe those parks are being operated by the same company.

Key word here, Soarin' is an attraction. A 25th anniversary is a celebration. Attractions can partially fall under operations, anniversaries COMPLETELY fall (creation and planning of) under marketing. I work directly with marketing on a daily basis, so I'm very aware of where they come from and why. They are NOT the product of anything an operational VP would do, but rather a SATO and/or Marketing VP and focus group.

yes lol...have you been to the MK lately? You might wanna check out the Country Bears. Or the Diamond Horseshoe. Remember when the Liberty Square Riverboat was closed for almost a year? That's due to poor routine maintenance. Then check out the debackle that is Tomorrowland and a Space Mountain that has needed a refurbishment for years, a Haunted Mansion in even worse shape, and a Peter Pan's Flight that is woefully behind the times and still using aluminum foil in its volcano unlike its superior sister ride at Disneyland. Then step in the Buzz queue around 8 pm on a busy day (I don't blame Disney for this entirely, but it gets absolutely disgusting in there some days--far more than other queue lines--which is not at all up to Disney standards). Then try to hop a ride on a Main Street Vehicle...if you can find one.

Priorities...priorities...

MK is the most visited park (and yes I have visited recently). Why invest in what boils down to overall minor fixes for a very successful park? Epcot and AK needed extra attention (each for different reasons). You could be the best person in charge of operations, but when all is said and done, if the higher ups decide that the money is better spent elsewhere...you're stuck and basically have to work with what you're given.

How long did DL have to wait to get their rides refurbed? MK hasn't exactly been forgotten over the years. There have been small additions and changes in recent years. I haven't agreed or liked all of them, but.....

You can make an argument for poor handling of The Studios...but for MK?

I'll have to use a magnifying glass the next time I head through the gates...maybe a microscope.

MK is horrible in my opinion and I'm not like one of the meticulous nerds you may find on this board who will nitpick. It's just....eh. By far my least favorite park to visit when me and my co-workers have off days. Usually I'll only take my friends/family if they have either never been or haven't been in a long time. There's something about it I don't like anymore. I used to LOVE it as a kid. We went every year.

I don't know ... I think I'm beginning to see through the eyes of a CM or someone who has just been there too many times throughout the years to notice something is lacking aesthetically from MK to make me feel like a little kid again. It might be all the strollers or too many people there (there never seems to be a "slow" day). And the queues are disgusting too. Philharmagic and Buzz come to mind. I know that's difficult to take care of on busy days though since the attraction I work at can be a pain to keep clean on busy days.

That was totally irrelevant to the thread though....so.....Congratulations to Jim.
