Jim Hill strikes again; AC leaving PI, finding better home

Disney aren't planning a high-end mini-park, no matter how many unofficial sources say so. If it's going to another park, I would like to see it in a similar position to Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom, where you can enter from both inside and outside the park.

Disney has had at least blue sky ideas about a mini Discovery Cove style park for a decade or more. The first concept that I remember was the conversion of Discovery island into MYST island that would be based on the PC game of the same name. Granted that never came to fruition but Disney has definitely looked into the concept and there is no reason to think that they are not continuing to look into it. With daily ticket prices at Discovery cove rapidly approaching $300 and no shortage of guests willing to fork out the cash, the idea of a $300 per day mini park at WDW is not only plausible but almost inevitable.

Imayoyo I feel as though your saying that things are gonna change and become much more....focused. By this I mean that it will change from every kind of club on the planet, to ones which appeal directly to the masses. By this I mean lets not have 5 dance clubs with different kinds of music. Lets have 1 club that plays all of these kinds of music. Am I headed in the right direction?

That's what I undestand, is that the goal is to have A focus instead of heinz 57. I have no idea which dance clubs are closing, but there will be more. I can take a good guess based on numbers, but we shall see.

And it makes sense to me. Have 2 great dance clubs, a good comedy club, some type of sensory-experience, outdoor entertainment, a pub, a cigar bar, some shops, some food, and bam, you've got a successful nightlife venue. Right?

It's a big cycle that's been on going since WDW opened...
"Lets offer more variety, give people more choices"
"OK, we have too many choices and people are confused, lets simplify"
"OK, our product needs to be new and hip and offer more, lets ADD!"
"Wow, we've overwhelmed people and spread ourselves too thin, lets simplify"...

So is the story of EVERYTHING at WDW.

BTW, Rasulo was considering a high-end park in California. Their die-hard APs definitely would have supported it. This is a small part of why Disney was so concerned about potential re-zoning in Anaheim.

Link please. A nighttime park for WDW was only ever discussed in that podcast way back and the 2010 article, both unofficial (and in the second case intentionally fictional) sources. Or are you confusing it with the regional expansion ideas?

Nighttime and high end are not necessarily the same thing. Regional expansion is another separate thing as well.

My mistake, a tip of the slongue if you will. I did refer to it as high-end in my original post, but the two concepts have basically become one and the same in terms of rumours. :shrug:

It is very possible the rumors are only half right, in that case.

In any event, another park (be it either a nighttime or full day high end) is something that we wouldn't be able to enjoy for at least 4 years. Double that if you are talking a park on the scale of the four we have.

How is PI During peak months? I only ever go in the off-season and most clubs were pretty empty unless it's the weekend.

All in all, a little disney plussing and PI could be the it spot it once was.

It always was heavily dependent on locals and with all the numerous other options now available in Orlando, P.I. will never again exist as it once was. Times change.

P.S I really can't stand when they announce that something may close or go for refurbishment and some self centered person has the audacity to state: "as long as it's not Closing by July thats fine by me ;P" ... It reekes of infantile and me-centric behaviour, if your an avid fan of the AC you certainly must be over or near the age of 21... try acting like it.

In any case, I just mean it would be nice if it didnt move before then if possible. I'm 19 and about the age where I can at least do the Comedy Warehouse and Adventurers Club at PI. This year will be the first time I do WDW without parents or other older people, not saying I dont enjoy doing it with family but family doesnt tend to care much for PI or it's attractions.

I'm also planning on doing AC with my boyfriend, whos not really experienced WDW before past the Magic Kingdom. So I thought it was a new experience we could share. In that respect it would suck if the rumour was true and AC closed. Is it really a crime to hope the place doesnt close before I get a chance to see what the fuss is about? Of course it would be a shame for it to close at all because it would signal the start of the end for PI and I think that would be a major shame all around. Plus I know a lot of people regard it highly on PI's attractions.

Loved the movies, though admittedly I really ought to get around to seeing more of the TV series sometime.

I did the comedy Warehouse a few years ago with parents which I found very funny. if it's anything like that then I'll love it

Exactly, like I said on here a couple of weeks ago...PI as we know it is going away, less Disney themed/more adult oriented hotels going up in Western Way area near AK which is also rumored to be adding a nighttime kingdom park or experience like Adventures by Disney with a high price tag and targeting teens/adults.

Add that to the recent discussions about what seems like Disney constantly targeting a younger audience, maybe this is why...they're redirecting their marketing to older audiences when these phases open...it all makes sense to me (whether I agree with the idea or not)

Jim Hill always likes to say things without full reason. There are so many reasons though why this couldn't be part of a theme park experience. It would not be the same thing if it wasn't in the form that it is now. It was not opened to be an all day attraction...it is something to keep revenue generating at night and that can't be done in a theme park.

I haven't been to Adven Club in years but it was my favorite. It was fun, hip, cool, different and had great drinks..hehe.

Where could it go? Maybe in Epcot in England? Maybe on the Boardwalk? I can't forsee it being in a park, either. It is not for a family.

Like so many have said, I don't think it's family-friendly enough to go to a park. My next guess would've been Western Way, but if Imayoyo says no go there, I'll take his word for that. So, what does that mean...a resort maybe? Boardwalk? I'm more inclined to believe it isn't going anywhere for the next couple years, at least.

I've never been to the AC (except during the first year PI opened when I was young and our family looked around for a short amount of time) and really have no desire to go over there, so I really couldn't care less about their plans for PI. But a lot of people seem to enjoy the AC, so I hope it does stay around in some form or fashion for them. Personally, I wisht they would spend more money on the parks themselves as opposed to wholesale changes to the Downtown Disney area.
