JII Lighting Upgrade in Finale Room

I'm not holding my breath for anything amazing until they can get it together in agreeing to invest some in quality Epcot attractions again. The current iteration of Imagination (besides already being a worse concept IMO) honestly feels like they got 5-10% finished with it and ran out of money, so they opened it up as it was.

Besides receiving some basic technology upgrades, i honestly feel the original Imagination would have aged very well and still felt fresh even today. I'd also think that with more up to date technology, the problems with keeping the original in sync and such could have easily been fixed. Either way though I'd take an updated version of it, or a new better version than the original. Either one with a decent budget and good imagineering would likely be far better than what we've got. I'd say the only thing that could happen to worsen it is shuttering it like WoL (which i wouldn't put it past them to do either shamefully).

I'm assuming you never had the chance to ride the original ride. If i may use one of your videos, Martin-

^That video has all you need to know, including a ride through of the original ride. Late in the 90's, Disney gutted the insides of the pavilion and changed the attraction entirely. Not to mention closed the upstairs Imageworks. They basically redid the ride from scratch and condensed everything to downstairs and continue to let the upstairs section rot away.

The newer ride i assume you've been on. Martin has another video for it as well-

I haven't really come across anyone who thinks the newer one is good compared to the old one. It was yet another one of Epcot's unfortunate losses, though in this case i can't find much in terms of redeeming qualities about the replacement at all. The original was a wonderful ride to me, probably one of my favorite fantasy dark rides of all time.

I agree it would have done just fine still today and beyond. Instead of the horrific gutting they so enjoyed giving it, they could have saved tons of money and left it as it was and just refurbished it, maybe change a few things, add some new things, scenes etc etc, but no like everything else at Epcot it got ripped out with no heart (because it was in the contract to do so :brick:), and were left with what we have today like SSE, another mess of a project and the list goes on. Unless they get a new sponsor which isnt happening anytime soon, I think were stuck with it for the most part, but who knows anything can change at any given time.

This is "One little Spark that lights up for you" Maybe more will come in the future from this little spark of inspiration.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not. I rode JII today and noticed that in the finale room with all the Figments hanging up, they have now switched to color changing LED lights that seem to have brightened the room substantially. Just thought I would share that some TLC has been given to the attraction.

Now see here! I have placed this lip stick on this pig. Isn't she beautiful!

I want an Imagination refurb as much as everyone else but I'm waiting until they have time to invest into the pavillion and plan this out instead of rushing things and putting Figment everywhere.

excuse me but can anyone explain the difference from the old imagination to now?

There are so many sights, sounds and smells from old Imagination ride that are so engraved in my mind from the '80s that makes it such a shame it was changed. That also encompasses the upstairs Imageworks - pin tables and rainbow tunnel...

I barely remember the original imagination ride. I do have memories of riding it a million times when I was like 5 or 6 while waiting for the rest of the fam to come out of HISTA. It really is horrible to see what's there now and to know what used to be there. I think even the version that opened right after the original, the one without figment, was better then what's there now. I don't know if it's because I have memories of the old one that I just strongly dislike the current one so much, but it definitely feels cheap, thrown together, and incomplete. The way you're facing in one direction 90% of the time is my biggest pet peeve. Those vehicles weren't made to sit in that way for the duration of the ride, but it's done to keep your attention off the other side because nothing's there. The version before even had stuff all around you to look at, which is better imo.

Either way, I hope they do something. This and Nemo are the two FW rides that I rarely do anymore. I don't expect them to change Nemo, it isn't perfect but it's not glaringly bad like imagination. But hopefully someday we can get a version on par with the original ride.

What does this mean?

The phrase "putting lipstick on a pig" is a sort of proverb with the point that no matter how hard you try to cover something up, its true nature is still going to be perfectly evident underneath and it's a useless gesture. Putting lipstick on a pig is not going to change the fact that it's still a pig underneath, an animal not exactly known for its beauty. Everyone can still see plain as day that it's a pig. In regards to the ride, improving the lighting in the current Imagination ride is not going to change peoples' minds about the core ride itself being horrible.

I think maybe you can't make something look nice if the overall package is crap lol. Upgrading the lights to the last scene is good, but it doesn't change the fact that attraction is mediocre at best.

Agree, I can say I rode it today and the new lighting effect in the big final figment scene is nice, more colorful and more alive and makes it look even better. But, the rest of that ride is crap lol. So much wasted space, sparse scenes if they can be called scenes at all, and junky. I heard several comments about "how lame this ride is", its really sad.

That's not saying much, though. A lot of people will say that Spaceship Earth (or anything that isn't a thrill ride) is lame too.

so why doesn't Disney do anything about this terrible ride? you would think years and years of people sending emails and messages of complaints they would do something to it, heck they could completely gut it and do something completely different. So why wont they do anything about it?

Why???

Thanks for referring to my edits guys. That's what they are for

Why, why, WHY did they have to "refurbish" and "renovate" this attraction?

Sorry, I am feeling a little extra emotional after watching Martin's tribute video of the original ride. I vaguely remember this attraction in all of its glory. If my memory serves me correctly, I remember playing with some of the Imageworks attractions on the first floor like the pin table and the stepping tones.

What an excellent story line it had with Figment AND Dreamfinder. Today, it is really nothing, a shell of its former self. It is so difficult to believe that TDO thinks that what is there now is even comparable at all to what used to be.

Martin, THANK YOU for making these awesome videos so we can remember what Disney was like at its best! :sohappy:
