Jealousy Of The Deluxe Resorters...

ShookieJones

We need time for things to happen.
Totally appreciate you post and I do get where you're coming from but I will say this:

I've never stayed at a value, but stayed at a moderate POFQ for many many years before finally being able to afford and stay at a Deluxe.

Our first stay was at AKL because we got a massive discount. It was nice, but the next year we stayed at PORS and I didn't miss the AKL one bit. The next year we stayed at the Poly, that was AWESOME and a life long dream of mine to stay there. Next year we were at POFQ again, I missed the Poly a little but not nearly enough to ruin a single moment of my vacation. Last year we did it up like crazy for my Wife's 50th, Contemporary MK view, Spa days for my wife, Discovery Cove with deluxe Cabana, Sea World, Aquitica with Cabana, and finally Hard Rock Hotel 3 days. This year we're back at PORS and I'm sure I'll miss living it up like a rich person like we did last year, but you know what? I'm fortunate to even be setting my feet inside those gates at all, so wherever I get to stay I'm ALWAYS going to be happy.

Jealousy, thy color is green. Well, paint me emerald green, then. I stayed once at the Contemporary Resort for a convention (company sponsored) and once at Wilderness Lodge (three day vacation). I recently made my reservations for Coronado and have stayed at PORS in the past. For the past week, I've tried to figure out how to come up with $800 to cover the WL stay but can't squeeze blood from the turnip. So, yes. I'm jealous. To sate my envious self, my wife and I will spend time at the WL and Contemporary to feel like we were there. We also do walkthroughs on the Grand Flo and Poly as we do the monorail tour.

However, I do enjoy saving the money by staying at the moderates with a discounted room. They are themed nice and have a great atmosphere. Plus, they have nice walking paths that invite us to exercise and enjoy the surroundings. I prefer walking at the resorts as it is a way to escape the crowds of the parks. My wife is a little put off by Coronado as she loved PORS but I hope that it all works out.

I stayed once at CSR for the trip we took at Easter. I think CSR is the most picturesque, serene of all the disney resorts. I stayed in the Cabana section and the walk to the bus stop, the big pool, a quiet pool, or the food courts were short. I loved the hammocks on the sandy beach.

That is a good price. Normally I would say GF is over rated and over priced but $325 is about right.

That's what I thought. I know we are going this summer...I'm just wondering if I can put it off to leave later in August like the 6th maybe instead of the last week of July. Because the pin code only has summer dates in early June or last 2 weeks of August into September.

I think I might be stupid to not pay the room only deposit by Saturday which is when the pin expires....I can always cancel if the dates don't work out.

Honestly, we love Port Orleans and are DVC members that have WL as our home. If Port Orleans had been available as a DVC resort we'd have bought it instead. It would have been cheaper (I assume) and is gorgeous. Don't be jealous at all.

Oh please don't give Disney any ideas. They have time shared so many resorts now already. I love POR and would be so sad if they did this. Actually what you are pretty much describing is Old Key West. The rooms are different but the atmosphere is pretty similar. I like OKW. It is calm and doesn't get invaded much by non OKW guests.

I doubt that Disney would build DVC at any moderate. Most people just wouldn't be willing to shell out $150 per point to stay there. They can't really price it any lower than their current deluxe villas, because everyone would by the cheaper points, and then use them to stay at the deluxe resorts anyway. If they were to do it, and price the points appropriately, they would probably have to restrict the use of the points to only moderates, or have a 2 moderates points equals 1 regular deluxe point to use them at a deluxe.

We have been DVC owners for many years now, and love it! We are deluxe snobs (and not ashamed to admit it! :) ), but we have also stayed at POR, POFQ, and the FW cabins. We have already stayed at SSR (our home resort), the SSR Treehouses, OKW, BWV, and VGC. We'll be trying for either VGF or VWL next trip! We do not go to Disney and use the room just to sleep, etc. so DVC works really well for us.

Just for sake of curiosity, I replaced my current choice of resort with GF. I even searched for the cheapest room possible. The cost for the GF stay alone is MORE than the entire trip I have quoted so far. Oh my word! Never gonna happen.

I, too, was jealous of the deluxe people. Now that I am DVC that's all I stay at and I love it. We loved the moderates, too. You really can't go wrong being at Disney at all. I don't look down on anyone but am happy with where we say.

My thoughts --- I had always been a moderate level resort type of guy for about 8 years. Within the past 5 years, I have had the opportunity to stay deluxe through renting DVC points. I do not believe I will ever go back. I have evolved into a deluxe snob, I admit it.

I feel the same way that I would love to stay at a deluxe sometime but as much time as my family spends away from the resort and in the parks, its just not worth the extra cash right now. My wife's perfect Disney trip involves us fully enjoying our resort, and for this trip in the future, absolutely we will stay at either Yacht and Beach or the Grand Floridian, but for now, moderate works perfect. And Disney is great about all of the transportation that allows you to jump around and explore each resort which we enjoy doing on each trip!

Don't be jealous! We could afford a week in a deluxe, but choose not to, all we do there is sleep and shower - value or moderate still have the Disney Magic. Besides, in my opinion the deluxe grounds and common elements are what set them apart, and you can enjoy those without paying the room rates. I have never found the actual rooms at deluxe to be that much better.

We aren't talking about trend setting four season/ritz carlton level rooms here with 2 person jacuzzis, walk in showers with 10 massaging shower heads, 600 thread count frette linens, and built in sound systems, its just not worth the cost! I rarely ever hear people coming back from Disney talking about all the memories that they had at the hotel, its about the parks and attractions! Give me POFQ or CSR any day. With the money we save staying at moderates, we can go on 2 separate 1 week Disney trips a year. No brainer for us. $350-500 a night for a room that basically amounts to an 'average' hilton doesn't calculate in my mind.

I will say that I have seen some suites in the deluxe rooms, and those are indeed VERY nice!

Either way, to each is own. The only envy people need here is for those of us not at Disney being envious of those who are currently there!

Ehh. I've stayed in deluxe resorts twice (Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge.) I much prefer taking a longer trip over staying in the deluxes. We're gong for two weeks this September, we'd never be able to afford that in a deluxe.

I do love Wilderness Lodge though, and I would stay there again on a weekend trip. But I don't really like short trips.

My favorite fantasy deluxe resort to stay in is Polynesian. I've stayed at the Contemporary when I was a kid (when there were only 2 hotels on properly). We had a 1st floor room overlooking the lake and I could walk out our sliding glass door and sit on the grass. I remember giant turtles there that I sat on and rode for a bit. I was only 10, it was a big deal!
