Jealous sometimes of First Timers

My family is so fortunate to have ben able to go to Disney every year for past 25 years, BUT I do feel a little jealous seeing people there for first time and remembering the feeling of the complete newness of evrything to me. Not knowing where anything was and reading those maps I see them needing now. Hec, when my kids were like 8-9 they knew their way around all the parks like back of their hands. The anxiety of going on all those rides for first time that we have been on like 100 times each. Sometimes I yearn for that feeling again. But again I do appreciate fact we are able to go so often but......

I see your point, but have to say I enjoy our trips so much more now that I know how to get the best out of everything! We still do have the advantage!

I know the feeling. I took a friend for the 1st time in the late 90's and my husband for the first time on our honeymoon. While there is something to be said for being able to answer the "where's the nearest bathroom" question with a quick wave of the hand, there is definitely an awe of the first time at Disney that I just don't remember...and sometimes wish I could. I guess that's why I get so excited about new construction and rides - something new I will get to experience (now if only I could wait until I ACTUALLY GO and avoid the construction photos and inevitable ride thru videos that wdwmagic will have...)

Ha ha! I can understand what you're talking about.
I've also been blessed to be able to visit WDW numerous times since I was a kid and now in my adulthood.
Particularly on the past couple trips, I've felt a little bit like "there's nothing new to see", or "it's the same old stuff" (please don't flame me yet :fork:, I'm getting to my point :animwink: ).
Anyhow, I've been stressed a lot lately and probably haven't had the best attitude toward anything, but in particular, I haven't embraced the Magic at WDW as much as I have in the past.
Fortunately though, I've come to the realization that it's been my crummy mood/attitude that's really been getting me down and not the fact that it's not "new" to me anymore.

So, I figured that I need to start paying better attention to the details and looking at "the same old things" in a new way.
Furthermore, a few of our past couple trips have included first-timers, which gives me the opportunity to share WDW with them, enjoy their amazement, and also to help make their first time not only enjoyable, but efficient!

Anyhow, a lot of it is all a matter of perspective, I guess!

The greatest day I had when my 18 month old son saw the Disney train pull up for the show in the morning and he had the biggest smile on his face. Love watching kids go for the first time:sohappy:

I know exactly what you are talking about. For the past few trips, I have taken different people with me each time. All of them were first timers.
It meant so much to show them what I love about WDW. For me, there is a lot of magic in that.

If I had my own children, I don't think I would go every year. Taking new people every year is half of the fun for me.

I know exactly how you feel. My parents took me on my first trip when I was only 6 months old. They continued to take me every year or 2 and by the time i was 10 I knew the parks. I kinda wish I could have a "first visit" because I don't remember mine. I grew up seeing the castle so often.

Ive been to Disny every year since the year I was born! But I'm also jealous of the first-timers, and I'm only 13... I'd prefer most the original attractions than today's..

True, it would be amazing to go back to experiencing everything for the first time. But seasoned vets like ourselves have weeded through what we like and what we don't. I personally have experienced Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, Country Bear Jamboree, SGE, and various WS movies. I now do not waste my time on these attractions because I didn't enjoy them the first time around so now I've got more time for the things I do enjoy.

Same with food. I've tested out the counter/table service meals that I enjoy most. I still try different table service but my counter service meals are pretty much set in stone. I know what I like and I know what I don't. And first timers just want to try it all. I've been through the bad stuff and try to only experience the good. First timers experience good and bad because they don't know any better. And their "bad" and my "bad" may be 2 different things. But they have to experience it all to be able to know while I've already put in my time!

On our recent trip in January, I noticed a woman reading/searching through a large book (in the Magic Kingdom), as if hunting for a specific attraction or ride perhaps...and I'm thinking how really simple (at least it is to my family) to find our way about, find restrooms, etc. and how I'd hate to be carrying a book around all day long like that! I guess thats one reason I say its like 'coming home again' as we are so very familiar with the parks.

Man, I cant' tell you how many times I'd like to experience WDW for the first time again. As many have said, sure, there are plenty of perks to being a "veteran" at the parks, but I'd love to see Cinderella castle for the first time, ride Space Mountain or Haunted Mansion, or Twilight Zone for the first time. That's part of what makes me so excited for new attractions, that feeling of the unknown!

I know the feeling there too. I was just starting to get to the point where the parks were losing that excitement. Then i had my son and i took him for the first time 2 years ago and it was starting all over again. The look on his face when we drive through the gate to Disney world was priceless. His mouth hung open forever. Cant wait to take again this time for christmas instead of his birthday...10 months to go

We've been many times, and it is always exciting for me. With that said though, we are taking DD's friend with us on our next trip & it will be her first time. I am so excited to share our love of WDW with somebody new! I'm looking forward to seeing some attractions that we have skipped our last few trips. I just hope she doesn't get overwhelmed because I want to show her everything!

I took first timers back in June. It was a blast. They are now planning their third trip back.

Taking my sons make up for not having that first time experience anymore. Everytime they go its like a first time experience.

I was with some first timers (all aged 18-22) this summer and we went on the monorail and we were chatting away and all of a sudden they started screaming because they were seeing the castle for the first time. There were some similar priceless reactions when they saw the parades and characters for the first time too.

I remember having a similar (although less audible) reaction when I went to DL a couple of years ago. I've spent my whole life going to WDW on an at least annual basis but the last time I'd been to DL I was 3 or 4. I remember coming out from underneath the station and just thinking WOW and being amazed at how magical everything felt.

My sister and I were on HM with newbies behind us and they were SCREAMING at everything that popped up. We were laughing so hard I had cramps in my stomach when I got off. Sometimes you can enjoy the excitement of first timers, even when they are not traveling with you!

DH and I are jealous of everyone that got to go to WDW when they were children. We both did not experience WDW until we were adults. We see how exciting it is for kids and we enjoy seeing it through their eyes. We loved taking our DS for the first time and we can't wait to take our grandson for the first time. That being said I still act like a little kid everytime I'm at WDW.:)

I think first time is over rated.
I'll never forgot my first time. I really didn't know what I was doing. I mean I had heard from other people how to do it, seen pictures in magazines. But when it came time for my first time, eh. It was over far too quickly and somehow I didn't feel gratified.
