Does anyone know why Universal kept the a jaws ride in California but got rid of it in Orlando? Jaws was a movie Universal actually made and so was one of their characters. I am sure I will make it to California to see it but would have rather been able to see it in Orlando.

They needed the space for Potter.

Jaws is only a portion of the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. In Florida, it was a full fledged ride similar to Jungle Cruise with the town of Amity recreated around it.

There's no Jaws ride in Hollywood. It's a scene on the tram tour. The ride was closed in Orlando as a cost cutting measure in addition to wanting the space for Diagon Alley. The fire effects, spiel actors, etc. were very costly.

They should have gotten rid of something else. In any case they should bring back a new and updated version.

Perhaps they will. The ride as it was (a jungle cruise style boat ride) was expensive to maintain AND they needed the room.

1 mediocre (and I've been on it, several times) ride was replaced with 2 plus a whole new themed land. I'll take it.

I guess I won't go to universal California then because the only reason I would go would be to see Jaws. I regret not seeing it when it was in Orlando. But my family and I will always have the memories of seeing the movie being made.

You could always go to Japan. :cautious: They still have Back to the Future as well.
Thanks for the info. I am not sure I want to go to Japan for the rides. I am going to Europe in a couple of years for a long retirement trip but I don't plan on an Asian trip.

The Studio Tour in Universal Hollywood is very cool since it goes through an actual working studio. It's a significant part of visiting the park since it is 45 to 50 minutes long.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Jaws sat on a HUGE piece of land, but was incredibly expensive to operate. Meanwhile, Uni is looking for a large patch of grass on which to place The Boy Lived And Who Sells Food And Merch Like It's Going Out Of Style.
The only other spot that may have worked is the lot between MIB and Simpsons, but then you lose out on valuable storage space... and you're not immediate next to a large, underperforming theatre... Just sayin'.

Jaws will always be a personal thing to everyone in my family because it was filmed at our summer home and we know lots of people who were in the movie and I love seeing my home in it.

I suggest watching Jaws on YouTube. Won't be exactly the same as having gone on it, but you can see what the ride was all about. I was able to ride it twice before it was closed for good. It wasn't that great of a ride, but that is just my personal opinion.

Not for nothing, but it was there for 20+ years.
