Jaws.. what's happening?

Timekeepr and Millionaire, as far as Universal following picture takers go, I was only stating what has been stated and confirmed on other sites as well as what a fiend of mine told me upon her return from a recent trip... Maybe they were trying to make sure people weren't venturing into areas they weren't supposed to be in, or doing something dangerous just to get a picture, I don't know... Only mentioned what I had read and was told by a friend who experienced it first hand...

Anyway, with that out of the way, here are some photos of the Jaws area, posted on Amusementpics.com, January 31, 2012... If you click that link, you'll see plenty of other pictures around Universal of some of the construction going on... I recommended viewing, I'm glad I found that site:

Did your friend mention exactly what it was she was doing when an employee asked her to stop taking photos? My guess is that it related to something other than merely taking the photo (e.g. standing on a trash can, or wondering backstage, etc). There are no policies in place designed to discourage general within-guest-view photography (except for policies inside of attractions).

Anyway, thanks for sharing those images and link! :sohappy:

I only spoken to her once since she has been back, very briefly... She mentioned some guy in a yellow jacket said something about not taking pictures of the lagoon construction, then followed her and her brother around the park... I'm going to see her this weekend, so I will ask her more about it... I'll post what she says next week...

And you are welcome with regards to those pictures... I'm going to do my best to try to keep this thread updated with recent pictures posted around the internet or any other recent news...

Was the "man in the yellow jacket" an employee? Was he maybe wearing a yellow hat as well and accompanied by a curious monkey? :lookaroun

Haha, okay, joking aside, I cannot discredit another person's firsthand experience, but it all just sounds incredibly odd. If it happened; it happened. I just don't see the point in giving one guest with a camera more attention than the thousands of other guests with cameras who are undoubtedly taking photos of (or towards) the lagoon.

Also, that type of guest interaction is - typically - strictly reserved for security personnel, and they don't usually wear yellow unless there's inclement weather. I'd like to know how the employee identified himself.

As for being "followed," that could just be a bit of paranoia if the mystery employee was in fact heading in the same direction as your friend. People experience similar paranoia when they notice a police car in their rear view mirror. It doesn't take long before the driver feels as though they're "being followed."

Awesome. I'm glad that there are some others who are as interested in this transition as I am

I know I am. I bet there are others that are afraid to come out of their Universal closet.

After I find out, I'll PM you what she says, we already drifted this thread off of Jaws...

As for pictures, I hope Scuttle gets a chance to take some over head shots next time he takes a plane out for a flight...

Well, if there is any validity to potential sensitivities with respect to casual photography of new construction, I think that would relate to JAWS insofar as people will be interested in documenting both its demolition and new construction. So if guests are being approached in the parks, there will be some shared interest in that. But yeah, either way, let me know. :)

I often see helicopter tours hovering over (a little bit beyond) the Amity area. I'm sure that whoever is renting those tours is getting some neat overhead shots, but they might not be fanboys who frequent these types of discussion forums. I have no idea how much a "tour" costs, but I think it would be interesting to do one with a professional camera - at least for Amity purposes.

Orlando Sky Radio has some over head shots... The boat house is GONE... I won't post the pictures because there are so many... I'll provide the link instead, so go visit the site and check it out...

Nice find, thanks for sharing. Also, the site linked to earlier in this thread (Amusementpics.com) continues to add updates to their photos that include both Amity and other parts of UO. Also, large galleries of images so I won't repost them here.

Edit: One might assume that the animatronics/robotics would be the first items to be removed (either to preserve them or simply get them out of the way), but the sharks and boats are still there, despite massive bulldozing and other demolition. Does anyone else find that a bit strange?

you would have thought so but obviously no one has the need for 6/7 oversized fish animatronics!

just looked at the pictures. this looks to be a very messy cleanup. there's stuff everywhere.

They obviously have to intention of keeping anything, so 'doze it all, no worries about being "neat" needed. Then get the debris into a dumpster, and you're done. I do wonder how they'll handle the boats. It seems odd they're still out on the track at the stations.

what will they do with the sharks> I wouldn't mind putting one in my pool to scare people haha just kidding.. but really what happens to them?

Good question about the boats. I've also wondered why the heck they are still out on the track and what their fate will be.

As for any other "prop" type of item, I get that bulldozing everything might be e fastest option, but there's obviously some sort of market for stuff like that. Take, for example, the various items that show up at local Disney-item auction houses like mouse surplus, such as ride vehicles or 20,000 Leagues seaweed. Heck, if I had the room, I'd consider taking those white elephant doors at the attraction's main entrance.

I would hate to think that the smaller items like all of those unique signs on the front of the buidings facing the loading dock are in that rubble.

Just seems like a shame... A waste...

The sharks will be scrapped most likely. They have no future use for them. The boats will either be scrapped, sold off like Kong's trams, or possibly relocated to Japan's Jaws ride. I would hope they decided to salvage many of the smaller, miscellaneous props from places such as the queue and boathouse. No reason to let those go to waste.

Looking at Scuttle's pictures, seems like the sharks are now gone and at least 1 boat destroyed... another boat is knocked off the tracks... Possibly they are just destroying everything...

Man, I wish they'd create like a mini- Backlot tour featuring one of the old Jaws sharks to attack your tram...you could pass the Bate's Motel and house, and maybe a scene with good 'ol Kong there too...and while we're at it, why not a King Kong 360-style Back to the Future adventure thru time to Hill Valley! Man...that'd be a great way to remember and pay tribute to the classics that are gone.

If only Universal cared about their rides and attractions that made them world-renowned in the first place! :(
