Just thought I'd let everyone know that Jaws is currently undergoing refurbishment....it will reopen in the next three to five weeks.

Jaws is under eternal refurbishment. I was there on opening day and Jaws (and just about everything else) didn't work right, and every time I've been there since, Jaws hasn't worked right. How they could kill King Kong and keep Jaws is beyond me.

How they could keep either one of them is beyone me. Needless to say I'm not a big fan of most of the original USF attractions.

I miss Kong (R.I.P.)

However, I want them to gut Jaws and either build a flume ride (cause USF needs a real water ride), or bring WaterWorld over (which, unfortunately won't happen).

Agreed. A park shouldn't be considered successful until they have a water ride!

They could really use one, but I don't know what they'd theme it to. I used to think The Wild Thornberrys would be a good one to use, but Paramount Parks picked up that idea already.

By the way....I wouldn't like to see Jaws go. I think it's a classic. :D

Yeah... theming is the biggest problem with a water ride.

As far as keeping the classics......... their are only three left. ET is too classic a ride to get rid of... Earthquake could be dropped, but the building is too small for a big replacement, and then there is Jaws. Jaws is a classic movie, yes... but that would be an ideal place for a flume or rapids ride. There is still a parcel of land near MiB and Back to the Future both, but that would have to fit into the World Expo theme. Uni Creative is kinda stuck as far as water rides go.

E.T. Adventure - best dark ride ever. :D
Earthquake - worst ride ever.

I would have to disagree Earthquake is an awesome ride in my opinon. In fact i made a post a long time ago about how underrated Earthquake is.

Earthquake's not that bad. Granted, it isn't great, but I will agree that is under-rated. However the show-building for it is VERY small. Even the one train that runs head-on into you is stored outside the building. It is a very thin building, with little room for expansion. If they were to gut the attraction, some serious reworking would have to be done in the area immediately backstage. It's unfortunate, because the San Fransisco area could house a great dark ride.

Comparing what both Studio parks have for "special effects rides" I would have to say that Earthquake is ten times better than Catastrophe Canyon.

(Yes, I realize that there is more to the tour than Catastrophe Canyon...but look at the Backlot now...I'd much prefer Earthquake)

Since they scrapped the original `Jaws` and rebuilt it (I was fortunate to ride the original in 1990, and return during the rebuild) I`m surprised they keep having problems. Yes, it is a submerged attraction tech wise, but Jungle Cruise is still going... plus IoA has 2 of the best water based rides ever, whilst not as technically complicated underwater wise, but they don`t have continual problems. It seems each home video on the net of the current Jaws has more than one element missing - each ride is hit and miss to what will or won`t happen. Hopefully this time it will work out.

PS - Maelstrom - what WAS that first summer at USF like? Jaws up and down, King Kong never up, Earthquake not finished, Back to the Future not installed etc etc... we asked for and got our money back!

Well every time ive been to usf Jaws has always worked perfectly.
IMO i think that usf dont really need a proper water ride as they already have 3 over in IOA.
Im praying that Jaws will be up again when i go on october the 18-26th

You may be in luck....it's rumored to reopen on the 10th. :)

I have decided to never go on Jaws again if there is a wait over 5 minutes.

Anyway, the old attractions were all pretty bad. ET was good but was one giant plot-hole.

My least favorite would be Earthquake. I was selected as one of the people to stand in the boat and it wasn't very entertaining. Anyone with common sense could tell what would happen.

Jaws MUST remain (at least the theme of it) It's one of the most popular movies ever made! (This is a movie studios park isn't it? )

(Now...if we can get the Ghostbusters back in an attraction somehow.....)

I like it too, both the movie and the ride. But like DarkMeasures said, it isn't something that I would wait in line more than 10 minutes for. I just really want an actual flume ride at the Studios. Something that gives a good dousing, not the spritz you get from the surge of water in Earthquake.

I wish they hadn't taken Ghostbusters out as well. Stupid Twister: Ride It.

Oh, I never said I'd wait more than 10 minutes for it

(Although, the "TV Network" being played in the queue is very entertaining (I laugh my hiney off at how corny it is).

WJWS? I think that's it.

*sigh* I never did get to see the Ghostbusters attraction...does anyone know of a website that may have video of it?

Universal-Excitement has one, if I'm not mistaken. It was a great show.....MUCH better than "the Bill Paxton show" will ever be.

Me....I happen to like Jaws. Sure, I'm not going to wait a 1/2 hour for it, but I think it's an enjoyable, classic attraction.
