Ok never been in Jan going 20-28 Worried about cold mad about Thunder being closed but wondering about the park decorations. Is there anything going on, like valentines flowers. Or is is going to be just the plants and things that are there just not fussied up. If you get my drift and will it be boring and not many people, etc. SIL had a huge hunting trip for our usual Christmas trip. So we moved it to jan before Grandsons Taks testing. Any info would ease my mind LOL

The majority of decorations will be gone and will be just the standard look to the parks. Also the herds of Brazillions are there. But nothing to fret about. Wait times are good. Temps range from the low 40's in the morning to low 70's during the day.

Sounds good. I am not so much worried about the tour groups unless they are rude to me. We usually can walk faster than they can keep up and beat them to the gate. They come in droves in the first two weeks of Dec and I didn't care for that. you cannot move without them there. Wonder why Disney doesn't make them their own park. What really upsets me is that Thunder is my favorite ride and its down for refurb, anywho its only 71 days away.. Free dining with upgrade things couldn't be better. Cheap flights finally with SW. Good to go..

The parks are still beautiful without special decorations and you'll be able to see everything much better because of lower crowd levels!!!!

Won't be cold until the sun goes down.

I'll be there the 13-22.

Well, it's always beautiful, right? The flower beds, topiaries, plantings....maybe not the freestanding decorations of the holidays, but still beautiful... And it's not home, right? :) You won't be disappointed. Have fun. I'm going at the end of the month as well.

How do you brush up if you never spoke it ha ha. Oh well I know we will ahve fun. I like low crowds just don't want it to boring without many kids there. thats what makes Disney, Disney is the excited kids and grown ups as well.

kstella and wdwcandice. You will both be there when we are? Where are ya'll staying?

Never noticed anything that looked "boring" the past two times we've gone in January. The parks were always well kept and beautiful. No holiday decorations, though.

Also the herds of Brazillions are there.

Is this mostly in January or year-round? We've gone the past two Januarys, and we've noticed this exact phenomenon. We're also going back this upcoming January, so I expect it'll be more of the same!

But nothing to fret about. Wait times are good. Temps range from the low 40's in the morning to low 70's during the day.

That's what it was like for us. Wore a t-shirt with a light jacket in the mornings, then just a t-shirt in the afternoons. Some days were warm enough to wear shorts.

I will be there the same week as you-- 20th-29th at the Boardwalk-- This is our 9th January. We usually go Martin Luther week but my son has finals that week so we bumped it a week.

As long as they don't have a very cold December, there are lots of flowers around the resorts and parks (when they had the freeze a few years back all we saw was brown grass and empty flowerbeds and signs that said "Jack Frost has been here"). Over the past few years the week we normally went was getting busier and busier for the beginning of the trip(the long weekend) so we are hoping that the crowd levels hold true and we might actually see a "2" again.

We have had temps all over the map-- I usually don't even really start packing until the forecast for the week comes out because one year we had hats gloves and mittens and the next the kids swam 4 out of 7 days. No matter what though, it beats thetemps here in PA!

10 weeks tomorrow--- I can't wait!!

we check in on the 16th-check out on the 21. are the brazil crowds really that bad? we've seen a couple on other trips, but really were not bothered or annoyed by them at all. I mean, after all, we're at disney! who cares....and unless they are following us on each and every attraction, I don't think it will be that big an issue. LOL....that said,...I might have a different out look after we get back IF we have any issues!!! lol. So excited for our trip too! We have a 16 y/o FIRST TIMER and her mom whose only trip was to MK while Epcot was being started!!!!! CANT WAIT!:sohappy:

Hey we just went this January and the weather wasn't bad. It was cool at night for jackets, but it was sunny during the day so it was nice. Prepare for cold air to come down from Canada though. It can get really cold at night!
I think we only so two small Brazilian groups and they were quiet so no problem. Nothing like the huge groups in the summer.
Hope the 16 yr old first-timer has a great experience! Have a great vacation! Hope the weather is nice and warm for you all!

That's kinda what we are thinking....who cares if the groups are there! WE'RE THERE TOO!! the 16 y/o is so excited, she is constantly asking the 18y/o questions about the trip and what to expect. We can't wait to see her reactions to everything! as for the weather, we've been in December and kinda figured it to be like it was then, but I would much rather be colder than be in the middle of summer when it is 100 degrees or more!
thanks for the info!

I'll be down there from the 10-18 and i was wondering a sort of similar thing. Just in general what it's like to be there in January seeing as how i've never been at that time before.

I really enjoy going in January. Even though there aren't any special decorations or events around, the crowds can't be beat. Last trip, the only line we stood in was for TSMM (of course, but even then, only about 20 minutes) and once on BTMRR. Everything else was walk on. It's a great time to go if you want to experience most of the attractions. The only downside though, are the refurbishments. This January, I will be very, very sad to see BTMRR closed, but Splash has been closed the last two times I was there, so I guess it's a trade off.

As far as the tour groups go, I think they are easily avoided. The neon colored, matching shirts plus the flags make them so obvious, you can just turn around and go the other way if you don't want to deal with them. But really, I've never had a problem either way.

Make sure to pack a variety of clothing! You never know what you're going to get that time of year!

Each season has its pro's and con's.

Summer, pro:
- Sun every day
- Long operating hours
- Few to no closures
Summer, con:
- Sun every day
- Brazilian tour groups
- Crowded
- Expensive

January, pro:
- No scorching sun
- Low crowds
- Low prices
January, con:
- Brazilian tour groups
- Unpredictable weather, perhaps uncomfortably cold
- Closed attractions, closed water park

In the end, whatever the season, I just count my blessings and ignore the downside. You know what to expect in advance, and you make your choice.
