MSNBC this morning at approximately 7:46 eastern standard time said that Disney share is going down because of pessimism in Disney fanatics. They said something to the effect that disney chat sites and web rings are posting rumors of cutbacks and budget cuts weeks before they are taking place and are exaggerating the extent to which they are taking place.

I know stuff is being cut back, theres no doubt that stuff is missing from our wonderful disney world.

They're using economic theories, if people say Disney is in trouble, it will be in trouble.

When greenspan says were out of a recession, were out of a recession because people change attituds

That would maybe happen, but there's so much speculation in any business, i don't know how much it would count.

The only reason i tend to believe it was because there was a new guy on here recently that was deciding to go to WDW or Universal, and picked Universal against his will because he heard of all the cutbacks... At least that is what he said

..and it is of course of no coincidence that the station reporting this is MSNBC...Microsoft and NBC...Disney Rivals...

I wish I had that kind of power!!!

Seriously, has anyone on any fan site cancelled or not planned a trip to WDW or DL because of what they've read here or anywhere else? I don't think so! They may have used information to decide WHEN to go to avoid crowds, etc., but I don't think anyone has decided NOT to go at all!

Heading for the great escape.
Im sure weve already had April 1st. But its reasuring to know that the proud captains of Industry now feel that idle chat on the net is more effective than progressive management, for developing a company.

I can see the reasoning behind this (I'm an economics student ;)), but the impact of speculation in this case must be minimal. Think how many people visit WDW compared to how many read websites like this one. It must be quite a small percentage.

But if they're talking about the share price, then that's likely to be true. If investors hear something is going to go down, and they act on that, that share price will plummet. It's business confidence.

But by reporting that themselves, they're making it worse. That's how it works.

Yes I do think people are fueling the flame that is "destroying Disney". People who whine about cutbacks that dont exist. Or that there will be no fireworks display when they go and swear that they are never going to WDW again. People who complain that a certain ride is closed on a certain day. ITs the people who hold Dsiney to an unatainable level of quality. It is the people who blame every little thing that is wrong on Eisner. They are the people adding fuel to the fire. This is a classic example of "Disney Selfishness". People tell their friends and co-workers what is wrong with the company. Then it gets spread around. If they had a bad experience they tell ANYBODY who will listen. Bad news travels fast.

Disney is 1st and formost a business. The "magic" doesnt grow on trees. It takes money to run a theme park. And when the economy takes a bad turn, you have to realize that certain "frills" are going to disappear. We are not in the booming '90s anymore. For the theme parks these people love to be able to stay in business, shows and rides are going to be unavailable to them. Some of the people mentioned above cannot accept this fact. Some can. But we all have to remember one thing.

"Its just a theme park."

I HAVE AN ULTAMATUM: LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT CUT BACKS UNTIL THEY HAPPEN!

sorry for shouting, but let's not even take the chance (especially for those who own stock) to have Disney slowly demise. If anything we should be pushing Disney products because we LOVE THEM. Let's just put a "smile" on this website, and hope everyone follows our lead.:D

MSNBC is full of it....disney would loose a lot of money becuase we fuel there high park capacity and full hotels, we have helped make people go to WDW and give them a lot of info about the "world" and without messagr board communites like wdwmagic, We would not know as much about disney as we do, so they owe us a thank you!:)

Nice Thought

Even though this is probably unfounded, its a nice thought to think that we the fans can actually be heard by the powers that be!!! (But I wouldn't put my $ on it)

It's the stock market, it fluctuates! It's supposed to. A good Market analyst is one part research hound, one part bullsh*t artist.

Market Analysts are looking for something, ANYTHING to tie the dropping stock prices. Your average Disney Guest doesn’t read the fan sites. To suggest it is absurd.

Are you trying to tell me that 60,000 guests (between 3 parks) a day, check this or any other web before they take their trips?

I’d just as soon believe the rumor about Peter Pan being ripped out.

Well we have heard neg. remarks and I just contacted Disney directly with a letter of my concerns! That way they know how I as a stockholder, as a Disney store customer, and as a WDW Resort guest feel. We still are going on our ten day trip...needing two rooms and having 8 people....you take a guess at the budget we have...character meals, souvineers, photos, etc! Disneys still getting plenty of our money and unless some horrible changes happen when we are there we will be back...its Disney after all. But I do need to mention that the other compitition is fiercely competitive...the older kids are going to go to US/IOA they have a 5 day consecutive pass for $99 adults & $89 kids so so they cant exactly blame it all on disneyfan websites...some people just dont get the onsite experience and will go where ever its cheaper..for us...its not worth the hassle to stay off site to save $20 a night. but some people dont care thats why we have the choice between Super8 & Hilton

That's a wonderful price, but quite frankly, I can see EVERYTHING at either IOA or USF in one day each. Even if I went back and did it all over again, I'd still have a full day left over!

Yeah! My husband was thinking 3 days would be more than enough since you can hop between the parks...but its cheaper to get the 5 day pass so thats what he did.

Disney shares are up 30% off the post-911 lows...The ONLY segment of Disney that isn't doing well is ABC Television and that's because they've bombed in the prime-time slot...the Letterman/Koppel dabacle didn't hurt them in the pocket as much as it hurt the image...
This company is SOLID, don't let anyone try to tell ya differently.
