My daughter has been listening to the Disney music cds (not sure which ones, they just the shadow of Mickey and one is purple, one green and one red) and has become OBSESSED with It's A Small World..We will be there on September 12th..and it's CLOSED !!! I am not looking forward to that meltdown..I am sure it will be ALOT worse then the one yesterday when the ICEE machine was broken at Target..ha ha ha...

All I can say is tell her now. I'd be bummed too, I am an adult that actually loves that ride.

My son is 4 1/2 is obsessed with Star Wars and we're going in December. I've told him several times that Star Tours will be closed (he was scared to go on last year) and he keeps insisting that it will be open. Definitely try to tell her now...and maybe try to encourage her to listen to the pirates song?

I found it a much bigger deal when I told my husband! When I told my son he said, "Ohh I like that ride. (Looked at me with super thinking face on) Well, I guess that means I will have more time for some of the rides I have never been on before. It will be ok." My husband on the other hand always told me he hates the ride, and really only seemed to enjoy it at all because our son enjoys it so much. So I wasn't thinking it would be a big thing, right? WRONG! When I told him, in the course of telling him fantasyland won't be any too magical this trip with all those walls up one of them being around it's a small world, he looked at me like I had just hit him. Then he started to pout (bottom lip out and all) and said, "but we always go on it's a small world. That just doesn't seem right!" All I could do was :ROFLOL:.

Sorry to hear that...I don't have any suggestions. Except promise her it will be ready the next time you guys go. Of course this means you would have to go back....Oh darn.;)

I would tell her and try to get her interested in something else, Buzz Lightyear or Peter Pan perhaps. Explain that instead of just a boatride you get to fight Zurg or fly in a Pirate Ship.

Good luck, my DS talked about riding the 3 mountains at magic Kingdom every trip but always chicken out on Space Mountain, last year he was all ready to finally tackle it and it was closed. I still hear about that and he's a teen.

My husband pouted when I told him it was closed too, except he wanted to help them close it down..lol..he said one of his biggest fantasies is to take his shotgun through the ride and keep score like on Buzz Lightyear...lol:ROFLOL:

I know this won't make it feel any better, but I was on It's A Small World the night before it closed before refurb. It was really needed. :-(

I hope there's something else that can entertain your daughter. Maybe another ride? :)

:ROFLOL:I dont think its the ride itself with all the children dancing from different countries that bothers everyone.

Its the saaaame soooong that plays over and over and over and over again that annoys everyone!

I feel your pain. We are taking our 14 1/2 month old in October and I think it's scheduled to reopen the last day we are there and plan to take him on it. I can't wait for him to ride it so he can see all those "children". I'm so sorry it won't be open for your little one.

It just needs a little tune up by the sounds of it. It certainly won't be a major overhaul. Disney isn't stupid, they know the nostalgia that surrounds that ride, it has changed very little in 45 years. Maybe some preventative maintenance needs to be done or whatever.

Either way, I agree with the other posters. Tell her now. You don't want a pouter the whole day while you are there. I love that ride too, always have, but I love Space Mountain too and it was closed the 2nd last time I went. It happens. MK has so much to do that other rides pick up the slack

Tell her that It's A Small World and Captain EO cannot be open at the same time due to the nature of... ah, nevermind.

On the Mexico boat ride, Impressions de Mexico (or whatever it's called), there are some small-world-like moments. Just tell her that, in a twist of great irony, all of the children migrated to Mexico. :lookaroun
