I understand, but, since Disney couldn't sell enough themed stuff to keep it going, how is anyone else going to or even attempt to try. It all falls back to the consumer whether we like it or not. If we don't buy, we don't have. That's the simple part.

When every store sells the same generic items you can find anywhere else, of course the store isn't going to make it. Not saying totally unique items sell really well, either, but they've set themselves up for failure by their Wal-Marting. I have no issues with them using outside vendors, I've had no issues with Starbucks, but all they do is think short-term profits. I don't believe they ever think long-term anymore.

I'm looking forward to purchasing from the MK Sunglass Hut. It's from inside the park so it has a certain coolness that one won't get to experience from buying online or from a regular mall store. I'm looking forward to more of these kinds of unique experiences.

How when its going to carry the exact same stuff you can get at your local store, same with starbucks, unique they are not. Why does anyone need to go to Disney or on vacation anymore when they can get the exact same thing at home.

It's not necessarily the fact that I can get the items outside, that would be a given. However the experience of buying the item inside the park is what would make it cool. It's just like getting a antenna topper or fridge magnet from The Emporium which I could've also purchased at World Of Disney, same item but it's just much cooler purchasing it from inside the park.

Not trying to knock your opinion, but really?

I do it too. I will buy things while on vacation (which is mostly at Disney) that I would probably never buy while at home not on vacation, even if the markup is another xx%. To us, looking forward to and saving up for and then spending the money on shopping is part of the vacation.

It will close without fanfare but a SunGlass Hut? I liked the rumor months back of a themed Jungle Cruise shop similar to the shop for the Haunted Mansion.
Now this would've been cool. Stay true to the themed merchandise, but mix it up. I thought the previous shop had unique, interesting stuff - I've bought there before on several occasions. If they had gone the JC route, I'd have probably gone in and bought more (it's one of my favorite rides, after all). But SH? Yeah, no.

I'd likely whip out my iPhone and compare to Amazon prices online before I bought from a tenant at Disney.

Right there with ya. Disney just needs a different marketing department cast. This SunGlass Hut thing isn't marketing it is leasing real estate.

Exactly; it's basically just giving up. It requires no imagination to throw a third-party in there. Heck, they could've sold Frozen merch instead and it would do better, strictly by numbers.

Clearly, themed merchandise works. Or they wouldn't have reformulated the shop outside HM to sell HM-themed (only!) goods. So they go one direction on one side of the park, and the complete opposite in another. It's a scattered approach. Like throwing spaghetti on the wall to see what sticks.

Personally? I go to the mall or local stores to shop. I go to WDW for the fun and entertainment. I can buy stuff at home, I cannot ride PoTC at home though. I have to confess that I am one of the reasons that those store go out, whether it be generic or themed. I just plain do not buy merchandise at a theme park. It's way to expensive. My memories are in my mind. If my mind loses those memories, I'm not going to remember what those items represent anyway. But, I realize that is me. Shopping and vacation are two completely different things to me. When doing either one, I am not thinking about the other.
