Is this true or false about Magical Express?

Some people I know from the Toronto area told me that Magical Express has changed their rules. I was told that anyone who is staying at any Walt Disney World Resort can ride the Magical Express bus to where ever in WDW they are staying at, as long as they show thier confirmation to the driver. So now you don't need to do all this with your bags, however I was wondering if anyone can confirm if this is true or not?

Some people I know told me that when you arrive at Orlando International Airport you & are not sechduled to go on the Magical Express, you can still ride it if you change your mind. So what you would do is pick up your bags & then go on down where the buses depart from. This is ok as long as you show them your WDW Resort confirmation. So these people would not have thier bags delivered to their rooms like the people who get thier bags taged for pick up by WDW.

Edit: I saw you reposted the question while I was typing - sorry about that!

At any rate, the way I understand it, the answer is no. You have to have the ME service on your reservation to use the service.

I am going to break this up into 2 parts.

1)You need to have a confirmed ME reseveration BEFORE you arrive at the airport.

2)The option is yours if you want to put the luggage tags on your bags or not. If you don't, you have to go to your airline's respective bag claim, pick your bags up, then go checkin with magical express. If you use the tags, you can go right away and checkin with Magical Express and board your bus.

Correct -- BUT -- International Flights (i.e. Toronto) do not work that way with the baggage. You must pick up your bag, clear customs with your bag, and then proceed to the ME bus with your own bag. Unless they have changed something, International flights baggage does not get brought to your room because of the customs issue. You can still use ME as long as you have a confirmation for it. You merely take your bags with you to the bus.

I just want to state for the record when flying from Toronto - Orlando you clear United States Customs in Toronto, so once you land in Orlando you go right away to baggage claim just like everyone else arriving from all over the United States.

can you pull your own bags so you don't have to wait for them??

Yes. That is what we always do. I don't like having to wait for the bags to finally get to the room so I pick up my own bags and head over to ME. They will load you and your bags onto the bus and whisk you away to you resort. It's a little less 'magical' to do it this way but you will have your luggage immediately upon arrival instead of having to wait for Mickey to bring it for you.

Also if you are from Toronto and you tag your bags with the DME tags disney will pick them up for you. I just used it in feb. and had no problems.

The part about having a reservation is completely true. You must be registered for DME. That is part of the agreement that Disney has with the Orlando International Airport. Without a reservation, you wont be able to board. Why wouldnt you make a reservation though is my question? Belle

Flying into Orlando from major Canadian airports such as Trudeau in Montreal or Pearson in Toronto allows one to be treated as domestic since customs is done in Canada. We always arrive at the domestic gates at MCO. This is wonderful because it allows us to use ME with the same perks (ie: luggage delivery) as our U.S. friends.

I only posted this because some people I know from Toronto told that you can get on just by showing your WDW confirmation. Next time I see them I will tell them that they had false information.

When DME started it was possible to do this. The policy changed a few months after the service began due to complaints of favoritism by the several of Orlando transportation companies. So if your associates claim that they have done this they very well might have done it during DME's infancy. As mentioned before it is no longer possible to do this.

I have never understood why some of the companies were complaining? I mean aren't there a lot of hotels on 192, Lake Buena Vista & International Drive for them to service? I mean it's not like DME owns the whole market when it comes to transporting guests all around Orlando. I know part of this is because DME is free where as these other companies charge a certin amount, but there will be guests who will always stay off site & if they don't rent a car then these services would be essential for them to use.

Tourists going from Orlando's airport to WDW make up the majority of the the cab and limo services business in Orlando. (DME has ferried over a million people so far) IMHO the limo and cab companies should have spent their time and energy marketing the way their service is better than DME instead of trying to get rid of them. Now that it is all said and done DME is still here, still free and the cab and limo companies have shot themselves in the foot.
