Is this blasphemous?

I dropped the ball this year and didn't get my Le Cellier reservation on my 180 day mark! :brick: So, I thought we would give Kona Cafe a try instead. Now I know Le Cellier's steaks are up for debate with many people, but my husband and I loved them. Am I crazy or too hopeful that DH will like the steaks at Kona and forgive my ADR blunder or is this just blasphemy to compare the two?

To each their own of course, but I find Le Cellier to be overrated and would go to Kona any day. I haven't had the steak, but others who have say it is fantastic. The Tuna Oscar there is very good, and I highly recommend it. If you are really looking for steak I would recommend going to Yachtsman Steakhouse if you don't mind the higher prices.

Not at all. Kona is a great place. One of my favorite table service places on property. You will however notice 2 distinct differences from Le Cellier. First, it has a more open, cafe feel to it and the steaks will be flavored (ie Ginger crusted Rib Eye)

Ditto on the Tuna Oscar...out of this world! I found Kona Cafe to be one of the best meals we had on our last trip. It was a last minute pick, but turned out to be a new favorite. Nice, quiet atmosphere and great desserts too. No one in my group had a steak, so I cannot comment on the steaks.

I have to admit that we avoided steak all week due to the comments on the poor quality of beef served at most non-signature restaurants.

Kona is a must do on every trip for us because of the steaks. Also, btw, on our last trip when we ate at Tony's Town Square, eveyone in our group who ordered the steak said it was amazing.

I have to say I am not a fan of the steak from Le Cellier....went last week and the the inside was cooked PERFECT med-rare...but i could not get past the charded burnt outside. It was just gross. Now the porterhouse at Yatchsman was AWESOME! Melted in my mouth the second time around, as the first one I got the sacuse was not on the side like requested.

DH & I both love Le Cellier, but we also both really like the steaks at Kona. If you don't have your heart set on steak, Kona offers some really great dishes that are not steak as well.

I'm also on the LC is totally overrated train. There are lots of other restaurants on property with much better steaks. However, if you think he will be disappointed with Kona, you can make it up to him by taking him to Shula's. Hands down the best steaks on property. More expensive but there's a reason for it. It's not on any of the dining plans, but you can get a $25 discount for like $2 from restaurants.com. I'm sure he'll forgive you. :D

Great-it sounds like Kona might be a good choice for us. We aren't huge seafood fans so we might have to stay away from the tuna though. :animwink: But I definitely think their desserts sound yummy!!! I'll have to keep Yachtsman and Shula's on my list for next time. While I wouldn't mind spending the money or using 2 credits, we just can't this time as we are already eating breakfast at Cindy's castle! Super excited for that!!! Thanks again for all the help!

Mind you- we are very picky steak people, but we just tried Le Cellier for the first time about 2 weeks ago and while we thought it was very good, it wasn't melt in your mouth best steak of your life mindblowingly awesome either... like the hype and adr difficulty would make one think. We went for lunch and from what I've heard- the same quality of meat is used for dinner as well...so definitely not worth the signature rating. I've read some really good things about Kona's steaks, so if it were me- I'd totally go for it.

On a Le Cellier note- you might try walk up. I know people say you wait forever or find out there's no way they can take you, but a family of 4 went up to the podium just before us and yes, I was being nosey :ROFLOL: -no ADR, no nothing, but were seated IMMEDIATELY! So, you could always try while you're there...I mean, what's the harm in trying if it's what you really want? PLus, you can keep checking the website...I was about 70 days out when I got our Le Cellier adr.

I can't comment on the steak.
But as the Master noted, at Kona you won't be seated with other tables right on top of you like at Le Cellier. It'll be much more open.

I like Le Cellier's food, but can't stand the seating situation.
The tables are so crammed together, it's as if you're eating with strangers.

I don't know. I thought for sure they would have been turned down when they said they didn't have a reservation- at the very least told it would be a wait. My jaw dropped when the hostess grabbed menus and instructed them to follow her. I know I've seen people on other forums say they've been able to snag walk ups at Le Cellier over the last 6 months. There were also a few empty tables during our meal...it was sunny outside, so weather wouldn't have been a factor. It may have been a fluke day--only time will tell.
