Is there anything Universal has over Disney?

I went on it. It seriously isn't that great. The film is incredibly grainy. Half the screen wasn't working. The dementors looked like something out of a carnival ride. The inside of the castle is INCREDIBLE. One of the best themed attractions. The overall ride left me incredibly underwhelmed after all the reviews I read praised the ride as the best ever.

Ditto.

I've never been on the attraction yet, but I don't understand how half the screen doesn't work already when the ride is not even a year old. What'd the projector break or something?

They currently have the best and most advanced attraction in Harry Potter, and possibly the second with Spiderman. I'm as big a disney fan as anyone, but no one can say that Harry Potter isn't a mind blowing attraction.

It is incredible and def. has a big time wow factor. It kinda reminds of the way Disney use to do things. Anyway I work at Universal (I know it feels like I'm a spy working for Disney sometimes). Potter is the real deal holyfield. Hotel occupancy is way up along with theme park attendance, I mean they sold the 1,000,000 butterbeer within 6 months of being open. It's a big deal. Everytime I hear about potter this and potter that I can't help but smile and think of what Disney's real response will be, because trust me the updated fantasyland is not the potter swatter.

Universal has the rides
Disney has the atmosphere

Each caters for a slightly different crowd.

When our kids were younger Disney was #1. As the kids are getting older they are preferring Universal.

When it is just me and my DW again (before any Grandchildren arrive) we will enjoy relaxing around the Disney resort again, not just the parks but many of the other facilities like Spa's and Golf.

As a visitor from the UK we always come for 2 weeks minimum, every 2 years. So we visit both parks everytime.
We own DVC @ Boardwalk so always stay on site. On our last visit we paid for a 1 night stay at Royal Pacific, just to get front of line passes for 2 days.

I think for thrill rides Universal has it covered, Hulk, The mummy, Rip ride rockit and dragons challenge are all very good rides, and Spiderman is probably my favourite ride in Orlando. But Disney just kills universal for atmosphere and feel, I love universal, but if I could only go to one it would be wdw without hesitation!

Have to agree with that. My preteen loves thrills rides, where I would be happy with It's a Small World! :ROFLOL:

Why does Disney need a "response"? Increased attendance at Universal as it may be, they still don't draw as many people as Disney. I don't think Disney is as worried as some might think. Just because Universal attendance is gaining, doesn't mean Disney is hurting.

It doesn't mean Disney is hurting, but in past years Disney wouldn't allow themselves to be one-upped by the competition. But, this is now the reason you have a number of former disgruntled imagineers creating things like Potter for the competition. They got tired of not being able to work to their potential.

Heading for the great escape.
Disney is da bomb, its the bestest at evry thing, Universal is full of bad drunks and cast members who poo on your food and wee in your coke. Iz a fakt.

Flat attendance and lower profits can adversely affect stock prices. So yeah, at some poijnt Disney can be worried...especially if FLE doesn't increase overall resort attendance.

Who said resort attendance was flat? I was there last week and both the Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary were sold out.

I don't understand people hating Universal that have never even been there simply because it's another amusement park in the Orlando area. We have been several times without going to Disney World and have enjoyed ourselves. The on site hotels are gorgeous, and we like that you can walk to the parks. The front of the line perk is nice too. It's a more relaxing trip for us than WDW - no need to hurry and be at rope drop and almost get stampeded running in. IMO it has the best raft ride in Bilge Rat Barges, Spiderman, E.T., MIB (which is much better than Buzz IMO) and o' course Potter.

It's just a different atmosphere & just because it's not Pixie Dust & Fairies doesn't mean it's bad. I love both places & I'm glad I gave Universal a shot because after reading Disney fan forums I was scared to death to go thinking it was some ghetto place & it's totally not.
