Is there anything Universal has over Disney?

the only two rides i adored at Universal Studios were the back to the futre ride, and kongfrontation. since both have now gone, and JAWS needing a major refurb, i would go to disney over universal any day.
in islands of adventure, although it's still there, dueling dragons was my favourite. living in the UK and already having harry potter thrust in my face everywhere i go, i do not wish to travel 4200 miles for the pleasure of having more harry potter thrust in my face. i guess the hulk is a good ride, but i'd rather go on pirates of the caribbean or RnRC over that any day.

Nightlife, Nightlife, Nightlife, I feel like Disney did not do itself a favor by getting rid of the nightlife on Pleasure Island. It was where everyone in Florida went to party besides Miami... The location of Pleasure Island was, the drunken hot messes got their own Island! No running into them singing Margaritaville at the top of their lungs like at Universal Studios. Universal Studios has a diverse range of nightlife for every age group with out a bedtime. Disney Had the same thing going. But now they're like were going to make more shops in Downtown Disney because you know we never had enough opportunities to spend money. But with Pleasure Island closing they are not definitely behind Universal in that aspect.

Coasters Yes coasters as in more than one. You know we want it just give it to us already.Even the kiddies want them when they get old enough they can't stop riding. At Universal its so many coaster they definitely have the advantage.

Do you know how many people would visit Disney if they had this stuff? Park attendance would not be an issue.

The last time we took a joint trip to both Universal & Disney during the same week was in 2008. One thing that stuck out in my mind was the crowd mood. At Universal, it seemed more laid-back. Whereas at Disney, it seemed more rushed; more of the: "We paid good money for this, so MY child is getting curb-side seating for the parade.. or else!" type of hussle & bussle.

As far as park/resort quality goes. MK, Epcot, and Universal parks have always been top-dog in our book. Very unique and different, which is why we enjoy them.

LOL that might be because Universal don't have a daily parade, or firework show. :)

I went on it. It seriously isn't that great. The film is incredibly grainy. Half the screen wasn't working. The dementors looked like something out of a carnival ride. The inside of the castle is INCREDIBLE. One of the best themed attractions. The overall ride left me incredibly underwhelmed after all the reviews I read praised the ride as the best ever.

I agree with you 100%. The inside of the castle is the best part, the attraction is a let down. It's still a neat ride, but I really think it's way over hyped.

Not picking on you that don't like it, but I seriously cannot get enough of that ride! To me, a huge Disney fan...i'm going to say it...Universal's Revenge of the Mummy, Spiderman, and Harry Potter rides rank up there for me as all time faves right next to Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Carribbean, Tower of Terror, and the Haunted Mansion.

Some people are very biased towards certain types of rides. Some love coasters, some love dark rides, some love spinning rides, some love shows. To each their own. But regardless of what you guys think about Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, it is the next big thing.

I remember reading a thread here where someone was seriously saying that Sum of all Thrills at Epcot is basically the same thing as Potter so Universal has no real advantage there. Hahaha

Yeah, that was a pretty disgusting argument and weak too because they even concluded that Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey uses a similar head view mount too..which it doesn't. It is a dark ride through special effects. That credibility went out the window. Ha.

Harry Potter world is pretty awesome, and I am certainly no fan of Harry Potter.

Spider-Man, also, as has been mentioned previously.

I think The Simpsons Ride is really good too.

Margaritaville might also have been the most fun restaurant my girlfriend and I ate at while I was down there back in October. As much as we loved Coral Reef (and as much as I have loved it everytime I've been to Disney over the years) with its tank and the fun we had at the Hoop Dee Doo, Margaritaville was really tough to beat. Although I don't see that fitting into WDW's target market, what with the name and all. It'd be nice if they could squeeze it into DTD. Do they really need two Rainforest Cafes at WDW?

Citywalk destroys downtown disney. Also Loews hotels are much nicer then all disney hotels. Way better amenities and services.

Universal has front of the line for select guests, excellent dining options, world class attractions, superior resorts, etc...

Really the only thing they DON'T have over WDW is park size and nostalgia.

All things being equal, if Universal Orlando were twice the size and twice as old, WDW would be in serious trouble.

I'm going to check out Universal next visit. I haven't been in 10 yrs. Islands of Adventure was newly built.

One thing I'm sure that Universal has over Disney is less scooters.
