I'll give credit where it is due Epcot82Guy. Is the whole chage of Wand Philosophy all because of Universal's Harry Potter deal? Wands are MUCH more closely associated to Harry Potter than Epcot Center. This may be another piece of brand association.

Will Magic be taken more and more out of advertising as well? What does that leave Disney to do if they are getting away from the "Dream" campaign too? Could be interesting.

Looks like Disney is running scared following the HP Deal. Good catch Epcot82Guy.

no its being taken down because someone at Disney actually has a brain and realized it was ugly and people don't like it.

Disney will always be associated with magic.

A Harry Potter overlay in a competitor's employee parking lot will not change an entire company's corporate culture.

This makes so much sense!! I'm sure the execs are in a frenzy trying to think of a new name for the Magic Kingdom!!

No kidding. Nothing at EPCOT CENTER screams Hogwarts, Hogsmead, Diagon Alley, Number 4 Privet Dr., etc. Mickey's wand is far more of an icon. The magic of WDW is much different from the magic of HP. WDW's magic is the memories of childhood IMO. Those who did not visit as a child, often just don't "get it." Even sometimes, those who never visited as a child, will have memories of Cindy's Castle and so forth due to its persistent nature in Disney and non-Disney medium. That is how MK can be the #1 park in the world and yet, not kept up with its previous cutting-edge and innovative foundation.

Until Mickey walks up to WOL, points the wand at the dome, shouts "alohamora!", and suddenly it opens up with candles floating just above you... then no, it's not the Wizarding World of HP. Anyone silly enough to confuse that distinction are probably better off at Universal. TBH I would like to see Disney forced into a "arms race" with Uni. As it stands, Disney has become far too arrogant. That arrogance isn't serving the guests one bit.

In the future, NOT EVERYONE will be famous for 15 minutes. But everyone WILL start an Epcot wand thread.

Warhol, you totally effed it up.

First of all I cannot believe there is ANOTHER wand thread. They really need to stop. But stemming off of Disney's competition with Universal...is Universal really direct competition to WDW? I mean aren't all of Disney's parks well ahead of Universal in terms of attendance? I don't know, it just seems to me like WDW is in a league of its own, and can't even be compared to the amusement park that is Universal.

Maybe they are moving the Epcot wand to a billboard next to Universal which could state.......follow the Wand to the Real Magic......at Disney's Magic Kingdom!

Consider this thread a bit of Universal style competition.

Wow, that was a dense post. Lots of good points. MK has a real tough road ahead. No matter what, if park attendace goes up at Ep,Stu,AK, MK will continue to go up too. The park can't handle to much larger of climbs on some peak days. Adding another park won't help because that will just mean more guests overall, each wanting 2 days of their trip at MK. If they expand and add more attractions, it may become a 3 day park, thus attracting MORE guests. MK is in a very tough place. If they don't enhance what many guest think is the "real" Disney World park, many may not come at all.

Exactly. Uni is just a bonus place to go. But there is so much to do at WDW, it's even difficult to fit a single Uni park into a 7-day vacation. Even at my young age, I would still want at least 1 or 2 days to chill at the resort. Leaves 5 days of 4 parks, 2 water parks, DTD, other resorts + boardwalk.

I would love to see some real competition from them. I am hoping WWHP will bring in the many HP fans, but with any "fan cult," the numbers always prove to be smaller than you think. Despite AMC filling up at the HP5 showings after midnight. I would love to see Uni bring in more people. Maybe then Disney will care more about CM retention (the guests sure do) and service.
