They’ll take down the EPCOT sign and replace it with a Microsoft sign the final designs haven’t been worked out there for there is no sign in the VPG. J/K thought you would all get a laugh out of that of receive a deep sense of dread.

Here are my reasons:

1. In the new WDW Vacation Planning Video that I just received in the mail yesterday, all of the footage of Spaceship Earth was old, prior to the hand.

2. Also in the package, there is a park map in the WDW pamphlet included with the video. Usually in the maps, the hand is featured next the the pic of SE, but on this map, SE stands alone. (If you still have the 100 Years of Magic WDW Vacation Planning video, look at the map, then compare it to the new video, if you are going to receive it.)

3. If you have visited the WDW Official website lately (www.disneyworld.com), they totally revamped the site. If you visit the EPCOT section of the site, there is a pic of a family in front of SE, without the hand.

4. Also in the Attractions section of EPCOT, click on "Spaceship Earth." Another picture of SE, but the hand was cut out of the picture.

Are we finally going to see a bit of EPCOT CENTER reborn? I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

:animwink:

Hey!
No! I hope not, cuz it makes it look better and it makes it easier to see. I love the hand and wand on top of the Space ship earth.!!

On the way out of Epcot last night, I asked a CM manning the exits about the hand. She said that it is permanant as far as she knows. They replaced the "2000" with "Epcot" because it would be too costly to update the year every year. She claims that most everyone loves the hand. I also found out that the hand makes SE the tallest structure in the 4 parks.

I've heard that too, but I think it's kind of a stretch. The Wand is not attached to Spaceship Earth, so I really don't think you can say it's the tallest attraction on property. The Wand is the tallest structure, but I don't see how that allows Disney to call Spaceship Earth the tallest attraction--or even why they would want to. It meant more when they said the Tower of Terror was the tallest, cuz it actually factors in on the ride...

While it is not tough to see, it is very cold and dreary looking. I like to at least believe the future is bright, and I would CERTAINLY hope Disney would try to show a bright, colorful future in their parks...it also reminds us that this is Disney's idealist take on the future

Haven't you learned anything form Ridley Scots version of the future. Nothing will be clean, electricity is spotty, and we'll be pledged by aliens and robots who want to kill us.

I personaly would like to see it go, i like the way it looks better without it, to me it makes it look a little cheesy, you wouldn't put a neon sign on top of the castle saying magic kingdom now would you?:hammer:

I think a pre-Millennium-looking Epcot (i.e. w/out the Hand) will be quite a startling contrast now that we all subliminally have gotten SOOO used to it...

I like the wand. The fist time i saw it, i thought is was cool. The geosphere looked bland and really needed some updating.

The castle is another story, the only changes that should occur are the color of the lights that are pointed at it.

What was it Lisa Simpson said..."It was what people in 1965 thought life would be like in 1987"

Don't get me wrong...I still love Epcot!

I just looked at the .pdf map at www.disneyworld.com and the sign is there.

I'm not sure if I want it there or gone. I like the pictures of SE with nothing to interrupt the shape, but the sign does add color. I guess whatever they do, I will still love Epcot.

I like your avatar. That's the view of SE that really looks great. The shape is uninterrupted...

Fiber-optics... outfitting fiber-optics all over the Castle to be synchronized to create awesome effects...

That's what they've got to retrofit to the Castle... :D

Using your logic, because they used some Horizons footage in the Vacation Planning Video it means Horizons is coming back! Whoo hoo!

SirNimajneb- when I seen that link I almost fell off my chair with laughter, and worry.

I agree with you on the fiber optics, I think they could to lots of cool effects, like back it the late 80's, after the fireworks they would make SE look like a spinning globe with a laser. There is lots of new tech. that could give it some really cool pizzazz, with out the sign, at least it dosn't blink on and off.

WDW1971- Thank you for the complement

Be careful what you ask for.

What if when the hand came down, they erected a 1200 ft. golfer with a huge golf club ready to hit spaceship earth.

Interesting.
