NO! It's not just you! I have been saying the same thing. I am sad at the decline of "the magic" when I am there. I posted a reply to a different post about some of the issues I have had.

- How unclean the parks are. That back in the 80's you could eat off the ground and now you see trash, dirt, spilled drinks, etc on the ground.
- How rude / out of character the cast members are. Last time I was there I reported two cast members. One was went to the Castle for dinner. Waiting to be called up for dinner and Cinderella (with a little kid sitting there) was talking to a guard about her new phone, how her old cell plan was a rip-off, her car, what they were doing after work... Another was at one of the counter restaurants. They gave me the wrong drink. I went back and nicely said "Hi, this was supposed to be a regular soda, not a diet." The lady practially ripped the drink out of my hand, slammed it in the trash, slammed the new drink down on the counter and walked away." I demanded to speak to a manager. I waited 10 minutes, no manager came (I asked 3 different people) and finally walked away. Many (not all) of the bus drivers barely say hello or goodbye. I always nicely say hello (no matter how early it is) when I get on. I couldn't believe the number of drivers that just glared at me and said nothing - and it wasn't a matter of they didn't speak English.
- 3 years ago I stayed at Pop Century. There were kids at all hours of the night running around screaming and yelling outside my room (we were by the pool). Some of them were cursing. I finally called the front desk the one night. An hour later no one came. I called back. 30 minutes later I called again. I said to them "I'm not trying to be annoying, but it's almost 3am, I am trying to sleep and I can't because of these kids." The lady said (with an attitude) "Sir, I have radioed security several times now. There is nothing else I can do about it! If the problem continues you can come to the front desk tomorrow and tell them to change your room!" I said "Fine, I guess I will go do YOUR job. I mean I am only paying like $1,500 to stay here!" and hung up on her and proceeded to go outside and started yelling at the kids. This was the first time I EVER lost my temper with a cast member. I mean, I have been in the customer service industry for over 25 years. And I can't imagine the amount of crap they have to deal with, but it's rediculous that as prices go up, the service goes down.

Another on the clean part - was when I was at Caribbean Beach 2 years ago, someone broke a beer bottle in the little courtyard by my room. It was there for three days before my mother-in-law picked up the glass because she almost cut her foot open going to the pool. It wasn't that hidden that someone could have missed it.

You are right. I can't go into specifics but over the past day I've heard something connected with this very topic, planned for the near future, that has infuriated me.

Here we go again.More "doom & gloom".Somebody ought to come up with a Doom & Gloom Disney web site so you people can moan away to your hearts content,Iam sorry, but unless my four trips staying onsite have been lucky, never experience any major problems, then I feel sorry for the person coming on here and planing their first magic trip and reading this thread.

I guess it's what you don't know can't hurt you. Knowledge can be an evil thing. I dare say your trips have been magical. So have mine.

But imagine if they could be even more magical. Just imagine.

Sadly I'm just a lowly TV technician who visits for fun and to see friends, not someone with any power to do anything. I'll have a ball too seeing old friends, meeting new ones at Epcots 30th and showing a newbie what all the fuss is about at Universal Orlando.

And sadly I have no way to raise the standards back to where they used to be. I'm just lucky to have experienced them. And also glad the frontline and none-suit / lower management CMs that I know agree.

There is nothing sad about being a tv tech, politician maybe,You speak in what the old days were like compared to now.unfortunately I didn't get to this magic place until my only son was born 14 years ago,so my first trip in 2004 blew me away,I must have got some pixie dust in my eye, because we have been making the trip every two years since. So thro my eyes,my DW & DS this place still shines like that little star.Long may it twinkle.:)

I think it's awesome that you've only experienced excellent trips. I can honestly say, in 28 onsite trips, I've really only experienced 2 major issues at the resorts.

As I've stated many times on other threads, it's the intangibles about WDW that have slipped. The length of time scrims remain up. Trash on the ground that is there much longer than it ever used to be. Gum and cigarette butts all over the interior of certain attractions. This isn't the "norm", but it does occur a lot more than it ever used to. I remember staying at All Star Movies probably 10 years ago. We left for the park early 1 morning and noticed a pizza box and a bunch of other trash overflowing from a trash can outside our building. We came back late that night to find the exact same thing. Did it ruin our trip? Of course not. But it's something that I still remember and wonder why it happened.

I get your point, but I've never seen butts or gum on anything I can think of,unless Iam needing new specs.:)

- How unclean the parks are. That back in the 80's you could eat off the ground and now you see trash, dirt, spilled drinks, etc on the ground. Maybe I'm just high on pixie dust, but I've always felt that the parks are exceptionally clean! In fact, I've told people about the immaculateness of the parks as a selling point and I've never had anyone disagree with me yet.

I always nicely say hello (no matter how early it is) when I get on. I couldn't believe the number of drivers that just glared at me and said nothing - and it wasn't a matter of they didn't speak English. So CMs aren't allowed to discuss their lives? I don't know about you, but if I have a down moment at work, I'm normally talking to coworkers about something unrelated to my job. I would understand if she was delaying your meal, but to report her just for talking about her cell phone and her plans for later that day seems a little extreme to me.

Aren't these people on vacation also? I could be wrong, but the last time I was at WDW, I don't recall their being a curfew or specified "quite hours" at hotels. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. I can't believe you would call and complain just because there were kids running around at THEIR hotel on THEIR vacation and *gasp* even cursing!

See red above.

You seem like a very grumpy person. Seriously, it seems like you need to take a deep breath and learn how to enjoy yourself while you're "only paying like $1,500 to stay [there]!"

You're wrong. Pop Century and the All Stars Resorts have quiet hours.

I can't believe you would call and complain just because there were kids running around at THEIR hotel on THEIR vacation and *gasp* even cursing!
So I'm guessing if your neighbors were throwing a loud and riotous party at home (and didn't invite you0, it was 3am and you had to be at work by 8am, you wouldn't call the police? Those kids aren't the only ones on vacation. I once was upgraded because the girls in the room next to mine started banging on the walls and then on the connecting door. But they were on vacation, I guess because YOU say so I should have just let them ruin MY vacation.

Thank you, that was why I said "please, correct me if I'm wrong." I have never stayed at a value resort.

If I was at home and had to be at work, sure. But at WDW, I'm not at home and I don't have to be at work. Like I said, they are on vacation also. He didn't actually say what time this happened at either.

We too have had mostly positive trips, but to expect people not to report the negative stuff is absurd. When I check out off site hotels I always read the reviews. Would you rather have all of the negative reviews taken away and have people shining you on about how nice everything is?

We didn't start visiting until 2008, so we never came close to visiting the WDW that Martin and others make mention of, but I sure wish we had. This September will be our 6th trip and even then we are starting to noticing more and more faults with WDW. There's nothing wrong with highlighting the faults of something you love, it just shows that you care.

Not to be rude to anyone, but it's simply called respect. My kids are 12 and 11 and they say sir and ma'am, and thank you and excuse me. They also know that when we hit the hotel area it's quiet time. Regardless of what time it is, someone may be sick or just plain tired. If you're loud enough to bother people in their rooms, then you're not showing respect.

Sorry, I missed that part in the OP. I agree, and I never acted that way as a child. I would never let my [future] children act that way either. I'm just saying that they are on vacation as well and I wouldn't let someone else's fun ruin my day/night/vacation.

I agree and I would report the negatives if they were to a level that I felt needed to be reported. But turing someone in for talking about her cell phone at work (not talking ON her cell phone, mind you - talking ABOUT her cell phone) in a situation where it isn't inconveniencing the guests seems a little extreme.
