Rumor Is the End of Innoventions Near?

My fear with Guardians replacing Ellen is that one day, down the line, the front part of the park will just be Marvel and the back half of the park will be World Showcase.

I wish they would stop and really consider what they want Future World to be- right now, it just seems like they are adding as they go without any kind of plan at all. Test Track, Nemo, Soarin, Guardians, Spaceship Earth, Figment, Pixar Shorts- I mean, what are we really doing here?????

Huh? Pretty sure this thread, and I perhaps mistakenly assumed your comment, is about Innoventions. And in that case, yes, I would much prefer they just tear it down and start over, than a "band-aid" piecemeal "solution" of meet-n-greets, playgrounds, and the like.

I was also attempting to be a bit esoteric but....

:) LOL, yep I absolutely missed that one.

my apologies, I was extrapolating that theory. You are right it would be nice if they tore it down. It would be nice if they gave great imagineers freedom to create, it would be nice if they went back to those old Martin videos. here's the thing, I look at the probability factors, again reality check. What is the realistic probability that Disney is going to do that?? maybe it's the bookie in me. I pick from the horses that have a chance at winning. In this race I would say there are two. #1. throw a marvel/IP inspired quick ride in there #2 Do nothing.

It’s just sad that they are letting Epcot close one phase at a time and just let it sit there empty like they did with Pleasure Island.

Want to make imagination pavilion the Pixar imagination pavilion? Ok then give them a budget and go for it. I’m a huge Tony Baxter / figment fan but I’d rather lose the current version of figment and gain a whole pavilion that is good and high quality than have Pixar shorts plopped into what once was a major attraction for the park.

And the poor land... you have a soarin film that could be one of a kind themed to... get this... the land! Soarin could be an extension of the land boat ride soarin through rain forests, parties, farmlands etc. put in a wall-e show in the land theatre complete with a wall e animatronic. And put something... anything inside innoventions! Goodness put in wdi blue sky cellar, or a model of the original Epcot, or kingdom hearts games, just do something!!!

I know you mean well, but please stop putting words in my mouth. I never said it would be nice if they tore it down. I said I would prefer they tear it down rather than the current approach. The current approach is trash. Between trash or nothing, I'd take nothing. It would be better served as flower gardens and fountains (do they still have those at WDW?) than the current iteration.

While that can't happen due to the contract with Universal (unless somebody decides to spend a boatload of money, and that seems unlikely), it'd be better than what seems to be happening to Future World now, which is random attractions with no cohesive theme at all. Not that a park that combines "Marvel-land" and "World Showcase" makes a darn bit of sense, but if they turned FW into a cohesively themed Marvel-land, at least there would be a chance at place-making, consistency, and innovation.

Well Uni has to cut a check for Marvel merch sold at IOA. Soon add The Simpsons to that. Maybe they can make some deals. Who knows? Stranger stuff has happened.

If they had taken care of the park properly, it could have evolved with the times and remained relevant without a single movie character in sight.
No. Technological change has occurred exponentially over the last 20 years, not linearly. A theme park focused on technology and "the future" was always a doomed concept. Theme parks consist of tangible assets, i.e. they're "hardware based" for lack of a better term. The technological landscape now is software-based. Future World "evolving with the times" would be nothing more than a VR park.

Sorry I thought it was implied that it would be replaced not simply removed. I didn't realize I had to be literal.

I find myself slowly developing a similar opinion. I think the boring Nemo dark ride and lackluster Three Caballeros/Frozen rides demonstrate how the answer is not necessarily IP. Epcot shouldn’t be the Magic Kingdom Part II.

But as it exists now, Epcot is mostly outdated and boring. In the 80s, small-minded people complained EPCOT Center was boring, but plenty of guests loved it. Today, it’s little more than a massive (overpriced) food court with remnants of the 80s and 90s, laced with a few really good attractions and a whole lot of mediocrity.

I actually don't mind IP in Epcot where there presence serves the purpose or stop of the Pavilion. I can understand a Nemo overlay to Seas, and I enjoyed the opening up again of the ride, but I still find the whole pavilion lackluster. There's no coherent story - it's a Nemo story rather than an introduction to the purpose of the Pavilion.

Anyway, what I want more than anything else for Epcot is to not be MK: The Sequel and to have interesting pavilions with coherent story telling, with or without IP to help tell that story (and not be the story).

I'm still all for an idea of using the SUM of All Thrills ride vehicles as its own actual ride! Would be a GREAT Wreck-it Ralph E-Ticket at Epcot!! Honestly the building would be big enough to hold a dozen of those things and a really good queue line with a pre-show!

Yes
I really only got to see Innoventions once while it was still regularly cared for, and that was 10 years ago. It's a shame Disney is letting the concept die...

I still don't really understand the rationale behind potentially demolishing the two buildings as they contain Epcot's largest store and meet & greet location, as well as that brand new Starbucks, and Club Cool which is still extremely popular with guests.

They are not an efficient use of space.
They layout is confusing to non-regulars.
They function as a massive barrier to the different lands.
They hinder crowd flow and that is increasingly a concern.
They no longer have an architectural appeal.
Energy inefficient.
Layouts that limit creativity and new additions.
More difficult to refurb or reimagine due to guests proximity at active attractions.

It costs thousands to air condition empty buildings in Florida weather. Upkeep costs a lot. I’m sure the other businesses can find better locations.

I recall Innoventions being criticized for being like Best Buy. Any concept going back to the old model or a tech store or tech fair is no longer viable. Even the name doesn’t fit current audiences.

Premier has a coaster/kuka arm mix that's being installed at a park in Asia right now. That may be what you're interested in.
