That was just a rumor
I have never heard that rumor and it makes no sense anyway considering that MGM's park name lisence ended in 2008 but the hat was built in 2001 7 whole years before that. The point cannot be made enough that the hat was purely built to act as a marketing centerpiece for the 100 Years of Magic celebration and as with the Epcot Wand designed specifically for the Millenium, Disney decided to leave it after the celebration ended due to lack of demolition funds. That's all there is to it all the contracts/theater ownership conspiracy theories are just internet BS that apparently Disney has adopted as a PR talking point much like sinkholes.

i'd like it if Disney moved the entire earful tower (not easy) and loved it behind some of the building on Hollywood Boulevard
This would really bring the tower back into view for guests and work more as an icon, similar to Disney Studios in Paris

There's a Rumor stating that the Earful Tower is going to be moved into "Disney Springs" once the renovation is over and, it will be Downtown Disneys "symbol".

That would be cool. I hope they put the little leafy one somewhere, too. It's so cute.
