Correct, it is both the park's icon and located near the entrance area.

In all honesty.... Can we move the tower at WDW? And put it behind Sid's or something? Or even outside of the park where the Christmas tree goes?

I'll take your word for the castle stage being able to lower, but also remember that MK was built up higher then the rest. Where you walk in MK is the second floor, it might be possible to do that, but, if I recall the stage at MK is much higher then they could make one in DHS. That gives them room to do that in MK, if they do. I don't recall the entire stage lowering though. Could be, I have never paid that much attention to it.

The portion of the Castle Stage at MK that raises and lowers is off to the right side. It has the three arches. Currently it is used for the Dream Along with Mickey show.
