...I'll just keep to myself the famous DeGenX quote that I'd like to say.

I don't know who this is or what he/she/it said - and Google is not my friend. I'm guessing you're going to miss the hat?

Wrestling term from the 90's Attitude Era WWF(WWE) by a group named Degeneration X. The group was known for lots of things that made organizations like the Parents Television Council gnash their teeth at the damage being wrought to small children. Lots of crotch chopping and innuendo laced promos.

The quote was "______ it!"
Think something you do to a straw.

So yes, the poster in question was basically saying he likes the hat and all the people who didn't can perform specific acts upon his nether regions.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLadies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages...
WDWMagic proudly brings to you...
It's two-thousand fifteen DEMOLITION EVENT OF THE YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAR...
*Big breath*
A One Hundred foot tall, blue fiberglass monstrosity...
Two shiny gold unrolled Trojans and an out of place looking hand with the wrong finger raised...
The BIG A** HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT

And if you're not down with the hat coming down... We've got two words for ya!

(I should really stay away from the Mtn Dew so late at night...)

The original plan was for it to be before the park entrance, and it would hold One Man's Dream exhibit as well as a store plus two ferris wheels that looked like film reels.

Once built inside the park it had kiosks underneath the hat, it wasn't a pin store. The pin store came once they decided to keep the hat.

Someone else can probably explain it better.

Not my images

And the whole idea COULD have been to ultimately have a store there, I think it was merchandising who pushed the hat, maybe under the guise of a celebration, but it wasn't originally a pin store, that's all. Again, someone can probably explain it better.

That would have been epic!

They did not.

There, the thread question has finally been answered! Close thread!
I suggest we just change the title to "Is the clock digitally counting on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios?" Oh oh. I just noticed that the title named the BAH as the park icon. The OP was written by our fearless leader Steve. So much for the "it's never been the icon" crowd. ;)

I don't remember anyone arguing that the BAH wasn't considered an ICON by many people and Disney. The biggest argument is that the Theater would become the Icon or that it ever was. (the answer is no to both, btw) The argument is that the Earful Tower was the original Icon and Disney seemed to want the Hat to be it. An Icon is what the people except as being one. In this case there appeared to be a middle of the story attempt to change to the BAH. Those that never knew the park before the BAH accepted what they were told. Those that had been there before knew better and never looked at it as being anything other then a huge eyesore. Looks like, in this case, the old folks won.

Hooray for our side!

Just wanted to put this out there. A Photopass photographer was stationed in front of GMR for a brief amount of time yesterday. I was actually able to get my photo in front of GMR.
"Dreams really do come true" just 13 years later..

I have you know I'm of the "BAH generation." I have never known the park without it and I hate where it is and the fact it doesn't represent Hollywood. I'm probably one of the only ones out there at my age. Your right, actual fans won this time!

Those there will be plenty. Many of us are planning backyard BBQ parties & fireworks for the day when the final piece is removed.

And you're invited.

Who needs Oscar viewing parties, the day the last piece of hat disappears households across the nation will be holding get togethers to watch classic MGM movies, drink copious toasts to the hat's demise, and wear pointed party hats which they symbolically burn them at the end of the night.
