Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

3-6 weeks isn't what folks kept responding with when I'd ask for the theories on how long it'll take. April/May was the time frame people were giving me and thus I was responding to that line of thinking.

Hrmm.. I can't find the posts you are referring to searching on 'may' or 'april' - but I would direct you to some of the better posts from the thread ;)

You go up with cutting torches and cut it into pieces top down and drop them down with a crane.

You can't knock it over... You can't crush it... You acant drop pieces weighing 500+lbs into you finished courtyard or around your workers. You cut it up and take it apart in pieces.

But I think you'll be surprised at how quickly this comes down.

It will be. Project timeframe is estimated at 3-6 weeks.

Exactly. And then once the skin comes off, there's a decent amount of steel to cut apart, then there's a bunch of foundation work. The identifiable parts of the hat will come off pretty quick, though.

:D

No worries... the one thing we can all celebrate is ITS FINALLY HAPPENING

It's the best part of the present... unwrapping it :)

Why is this demolition taking so long? Can't we just blow it up?

That's what the Great Movie Ride is missing... EXPLOSIONS!!! What self respecting studio would miss out on adding a few great explosions to their movie? And that's why they keep the muppets around.

i thought it was an observation that the undersides of the panels were painted grey-green, and they SEEMED to be fiberglass. but i doubt that fiberglas alone would be strong enough at that king of windload, so making a calculated assumption. you also do NOT USE A TORCH TO CUT FIBERGLASS...

You also don't make Fiberglass panels that are 60ft tall. The thing is in panels obviously and supported by steel.

Round and at an angle... all advantages to reduced wind loads.

Oh fiberglass is VERY strong, It's used in supersonic jet fighters for the radomes protecting the radar systems, If it can take MACH 2.6 it can take a little wind.

I think the actual length of the project will be determined by how much work they are going to do with the hardscapping and planters under the hat. Are they just going to patch things up and leave it basically like it is, or are they going to re-work everything there.

Some interesting facts and figures on the hat can be seen at http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/sorcerer-hat-icon.htm

Oh so tempting to start poking holes in this now... I can't ... just one...

I think "100 Years of Magic" meant it was to stay up for 100 years. Aren't they removing it a little early?

.. one more...

"HAT can hold 3,704,720 pounds of water " ... can't hold water anymore ;)

Thanks for the link!
