Is the Christmas Party worth it?

It doesn't seem like your trying very hard to understand anything.

What warrants $200.00 per person....thats what people are willing to pay. That's the only thing that warrants the price of something, what are people willing to pay for it, and these parties sell out every time. In fact, according to your bias first write up you said that the crowds seem to be higher than they were in the past. So despite raising prices, MORE people are going. So what is it that is hard to understand about the price?

As to the second point, during covid they weren't having xmas or Halloween parties. They were doing after hour events, which have different offerings than Christmas or Halloween parties.

Which leads it all back to you not having any understanding on how prices are set. You have people willing to buy what WDW is offering for $200. In fact according to you the place is TOO crowded meaning you have too many people who think that the $200 is worth what they are getting. And your idea is now to have WDW spend more money for no economic reason...because your too cheap to buy your own mickey bar?
Nobody’s trying to understand anything here. It’s just another opportunity for the same people to raise the same complaints about Disney.

There are some who raise negativity to an art form.

Nope, trying to understand (other than going once) what warrants the $200.00 per person entrance fee.

Funny enough, lol, during Covid when WDW needed guests, they gave our unlimited ice cream, water, soda, popcorn for the same party.

As soon as Covid no longer became a talking point, they removed those snacks.

My point, as genius as it is, is that for $200.00 a person, why not keep the ice cream and snacks, or are they so driven by the mighty dollar.....All Hail to the Mighty Dollar.

I like to think that Walt would be disappointed
Of course Walt would be disappointed…he wasn’t the dollar and cents guy…take your crystal ball or have a seance and see what Roy would have thought…I don’t agree at ALL with the nickel and diming…that perk could’ve remained and TWDC wouldn’t go bankrupt…everyone should go once and make up their own minds.

Since we went 4 times, I guess we’re the suckers you’re referring to…but that’s ok, you do you…

Sounds like it’s all negatives and no positives, OP. You probably shouldn’t go.
I'm going to pass for the first time in years... 5 of us = $1,000.00

oh, we've gone more than 4 times, so we're both in the same boat.... just something about hitting $200.00 per person, them removing the ice cream, popcorn, sodas from the covid years, and they adding, yes adding additional fees for a desert thing at Tony's restaurant and a fireworks thing at the 'noodle area'. Also, the christmas party was a chance to go on all the rides because attendance was reduced. now they let everyone in..... i know they will say it's limited, but let's not be lawyers about it, reducing jammed by 5% is still jammed

No, we’re NOT both in the same boat…YOU may feel that you’re one of PT Barnum’s suckers…WE went to #2,3&4 with our eyes WIDE open and enjoyed it each time…would we go again? Honestly, maybe but right now for us, ANY Disney trip is off the table.

Again, the party for the one year during Covid wasn't a Christmas party, it was an after hours event and those had snacks as part of the event.
The additional dessert and dining events during the party are not new-they’ve been around for years. And finally attendance is reduced. Maybe not to your liking but it is greatly reduced. The wait times and crowd holdings show it. Pay it or not, Disney does not care. All the parties sell out so obviously it’s worth it to a lot of folks and then some as there are many fan sites where people are willing to buy tickets for well over face value after they’ve sold out.

I don’t think the sarcastic genuis name-calling was necessary. Stay classy.

And for what it‘s worth, it was a Christmas party, yes. But not THE Christmas party and they were specific to market and advertise it as different.

I'm not complaining, the Covid Christmas Party was fun for the entire family: ice cream sandwiches, fruit bars, water, soda, popcorn.

Do you really feel that Disney would be losing so much money to continue such amenities?

Last party we went to in 2023, they gave us some ornament.... the kids would prefer the snacks.

I went once - didn’t think it was worth it. If you really like characters and unique character greets and sightings it is fun.

Also, if you will never be in town during Christmas week to see the parade and fireworks they are very good. I liked holiday wishes better but the new show is also quite lovely.

I think it’s a pretty good deal on its own, like as an alternative to a traditional park day at MK. As an additional day, however, I don’t think it’s quite as valuable. For us, we have the Incredipass, so we can just visit during Christmas week and get many of the offerings. For that reason, we’ve only ever done MNSSHP because it’s the only party that offers something “special” for us. And I feel as though we got a lot of value out of the MNSSHP when we did it.

Anyways, the one thing I think everyone will agree with is that buying a day pass and a party ticket for the same day is just not a great idea. A party ticket alone, to me, has pretty decent value. Entertainment is expensive, and the value is certainly there, especially if you haven’t been to a party in a little while.

For 5 hours at the MK with canned eggnog and mass produced cookies, that’s 20% of the cost of 2 balcony cabins on a 7 night cruise on an RCCL Oasis class. Or 40% for one cabin.

Let that sink in.
Let what sink in? That one thing has a price, and something completely different, offered by a different company in a different location, has a different price?

If someone wants to go on a cruise, they research cruises and pick one the think looks good at a price they can afford. If someone wants to go to WDW, they do the same thing.

The $1,000 for 5 tickets for a holiday party is also X% of several other things. its about 50% of a full week at the jersey shore. So Fing what? There's no mickey and minnie at the jersey shore. There's no castle or haunted mansion. If I wanted to spend money to go to the beach I would. At $1,000 bucks for 5 hours its also LESS expensive than going to watch a giants game with good seats at met life stadium. Again so what? Should all the guys sitting in the 100's of Met life ditch there seats and head down to the Halloween party?

These aren't regulated market goods with set pricing and values. The cruise could be free, and for us subjectively its meaningless as my wife doesn't like/won't go on a cruise ship.

Agreed.

A cruise is not a WDW parks vacation.

I know I could also take my family to a 5-star all-inclusive in Mexico for a similar price. But it’s a completely different animal.

I do the Christmas party every year, so, you know my answer: It's worth it.

It's *not* worth it if:
  • You're also using up a day-ticket for that day.
  • You're using the time in the park for a sit-down meal.
  • You go around chasing after the cookies... they're "store-bought" mediocre things
  • The only reason you're going is to get on a lot of rides. They do limit attendance. And most rides have a minimal wait. But they're not all walk-on. 7DMT will still be a 30 minute wait at times.
  • You have kids that will conk out in the early evening.

Tips:
  • You can be in the parks from 4 to 12. That's 8 hours. Pretty much what one would do on a regular day ticket - but mostly without that pesky Florida sun. Keep in mind that lots of people crowd the entrance starting at 3:30. Just time it so you arrive at 4:15p and it's a breeze.
  • Plan a big late lunch whether at DS, your resort, or one of the MK resorts.
  • Sleep in late that day, you won't get back to your hotel until 1 AM.
  • The Minnie fireworks are fantastic. And because the projections are just graphic designs, no need to get up close.
  • The parade is also fantastic. Much better viewing opportunities with the second showing.
  • The castle show is not that good for adults. But kids will love it with all their favorite characters.

Family's budgets aren't set by value. A Disney vacation isn't some stock that people are looking to buy and hope to get value out of. It's a discretionary spending, and a luxury one at that. To almost any working person your figuring out your vacation spending on what you can afford. Period, full stop. If you don't have and extra 5K to spend in 2024, and a week at Disney is going to cost you 6K, it doesn't matter what your subjective "value" on if the 6K is overpriced/underpriced. You need to have the money.

Thanks for your helpful post! Re: fireworks, is it still a good idea to try to be facing the front of the castle in terms of symmetry?
