Is the angler fish effect in Nemo new?

It's worked the last several times I've been on it. It's really the only thing that makes that attraction worth doing. Overall it's a pretty lame and rather lazy ride that is slightly better than looking at fish tanks only.

I've gotten it everytime...and thankfully the ride has been near empty if not empty evertime I've gotten on my last 3 trips...I too think this ride is underrated

To chime in, I don't think I have seen it working the 3 or 4 times we have ridden Nemo. I keep hoping we get to see it move one day.

Not sure but I think the smoke effect that the OP might be talking about comes from the scrim being between you and the fish. It's the same effect as the graveyard in HM giving it a hazey look. Just a though because the fish isn't set up to produce that kind of effect.

Thanks... I'm sure I saw some sort of steam or something... maybe it was my eyes playing a trick on me...

It seems by the posts that people see it sometimes and sometimes they don't. I guess I've just been unlucky in the past.

I actually enjoy the ride, I think it's well done for what it is!

One question though... why does the Kuka arm (or whatever it is) break so often? Was this a new technology when they installed it in this ride?

I might add, I always get scared whenever I see that fish, still do.

But also, there was the black net in front of it, which killed the experience IMO, even though the fish was working fine.

I always thought Nemo's Anglerfish was EPCOT's version of the Yeti. I must have been to that ride five times, and I only saw it working once.

When I worked in an automotive testing facility they broke all the time as well. I think it's just the nature of the robot.

Neat Effect.

(The Submarine Voyage is better though.)

Although the Submarine Voyage is a better attraction, I think when you compare average wait times vs. rewards, you don't miss much from going on The Seas with Nemo and Friends vs. Nemo Submarine Voyage

The Kuka robot arms are not new, a 40 year old technology. But only in the past decade have they been installed in amusement and theme parks. Also im pretty sure its the only example of a Kuka robot arm puppeteering 2 puppets, which is quite revolutionary since they were not designed for such a large range of motions and controlling many things at once (the actual arm, the "swimming" of each puppet, the angler fish's mouth movements, etc.)

And yes, every time i see the angler fish i get a creaped out.

It is a great feature, I think I must have missed it my first trip because it really caught me by surprise my last visit. Wish they would use that tech (or something similar) for the rest of the ride because as a whole the ride is very static, with just still scenery and video screens.

The Angler Fish (when properly executed) makes me jump and squeal every time I see it. It's only been down one time of all the times I've ridden TSwNaF.

Though the mist/smoke the OP is talking about could have been RIGHT before the fish broke for the day, right? :lookaroun

The Marlin fish and the Angler fish's jaw movements are run by different motors attached to the actual Kuka Arm. I've always said the darkness in Disney rides covers all sins. It's rather simple looking when you see it with the lights on. And the whole contraption is wrapped with black garbage bags using zip ties. Simple, cheap and effective. :animwink:

Well that is even more interesting. But still shows how Imagineers think out of the box

"Oh, they won't mind if I use MY light on the video camera."

The worst one for me is when they do this on The Little Mermaid show at HS.

Not to mention how dangerous this is for the actors. People don't think about this, but the reason bright lights and flash photography is prohibited for live stage shows isn't just about copyright laws; it's to protect the people on stage from being blinded and running into the scenery, each other, or off the front of the stage.

Back on topic, I think I've been lucky with the angler. He's always seemed to be pretty mobile on my rides, but then again I'm not sure what his B Mode actually does, so I may have been seeing that.

With B-mode the anglerfish does not move at all. It is just positioned in a way that it is facing toward the guests riding by.
