Is Soarin' Ruining Canada?

As someone who works in Epcot 3 days a week, i dont notice it. Especially at night.

As a photographer, i like the way they shot that from Germany/Italy area so they could get it so that the building directly lined up behind the pavilion. Nice use of forced perspective

Exactly.

i.e. Some of my problems with Mission Space has to do with the cramped queue and all the space wasted that could have been used. It's these lack of aesthetics (notice all the piping and speakers are visible in the queue) - based on BUDGET - that gradually degrade the attractions.

Just like Mission Space is a good ride, so will be Soarin'. But stuff can't be done half-as*ed.

Hey RPM one day we really have to run around the parks, we actually seem to have so much in common!!!
As far as the Lads, Straight out looks, I think it is Jamie. I love the fact that he is nice and tall ( 6'2"-6'3" or thereabouts) the dark hair and baby blue eyes make for startling good looks. He is very silly though and I dont know if he has a serious moment here and there ( which a young lady always needs!!!)
Mark, Aaaahhhhh the poets soul in him attracts me!! He is also pretty darn good looking, tall and blue eyes but he is more serious than Jamie which at times I dig. He also has that lovely Irish accent!! As one young lady put it he could read the phone book and it would sound good!!!!
From what I understand both gentleman are currently spoken for though, so I guess it is a moot point. Mark wears a wedding band. As far as Jamie, I just overheard some gossip the last time I was there. I Am not sure how true it is, but he is the only one in the band who doesnt wear a ring. Go figure!!! Anyhow sorry for the thread drift!!! Belle

Well, because we're still talking about aesthetics, I don't think we're that off topic at all! ;)

also, to quote an earlier post...

Test Track can easily be seen towering over Mexico and the Imagination Pyramids can easily be seen towering over Canada and the UK pavilion from another angle.

I hope that provides sufficient assurance that nothing is/was/will be ruined. Perhaps we should all take a deep breath on this one...

WOW!!

I had no cluie that the building was that large, none whatsoever. Last I was there in Jan, it looked so petite and I wondered why they were adding such a small addition to the already large Land pavilion. Impressive. And I'm sure it will look fine when complete, with large leafy trees ala Haunted Mansion, or even if they left it like Imagination!.

On a side note, what is happening to the general pavilion once the ride opens? I understand Food Rocks closed to make way for the queue or something, (couldnt that be jsut re-routed) but what about the rest? Soarin' is just a general extension of the pavilion, housed somewhere totally different. Am I correct?

Looking at some of these construction pics...it makes me wonder...which building is bigger Soarin (WDW) or Soarin (DLR)...I've been to the one in Cali...and judging by everything I've seen both in pics and in person at the parks, the one being built in WDW is bigger...anyone know for sure???

The strange thing about that is that it's more than likely true
*counts empty bottles of Molson Ex currently in room, comes up with a total of 36* :D

Back to the original topic, if they don't end up doing anything about the scenery in Canada, you could always go and visit one of the original castles in Quebec City,Chateau Frontenac

at the moment, yes, it's most definately ruining the look of Canada! i've thought this for quite some time. and it really bugs me! i don't know if they have any plans on an attempt to blend it in or not....personally, i'm not seeing how anything could make it blend in, but i just don't know. hopefully they'll try to do something about it!

edit: just looked at the provided photos...holy cow! that thing is three times as big as the last time i saw it! when i was there in Nov. it was only the little box shape in the middle. it didn't have the curved roof on it yet...that DOES look bad (in terms of Canada). don't get me wrong, i think it will be a cool attraction, but geez...did they even take Canada into consideration?!

And the thread drift is back . . .

Belle, I'd love to run around the parks with you! And as I'll be living in Orlando as of May 19th, I'm thinking I'll be around for the WDWMagic Meet in July . . . :D

And I've got to disagree with you, I think Mark is cuter on all levels, but the BF feels that way about Jamie. As to whether or not their taken is doubly moot for me, anyway, as they're straight and I'M taken. LOL

Talk to you soon!

I am guessing that it is not as noticeable from up close. I'm guessing that WDI will find a way to make it less noticeable from far away, I agree with whoever said something along the lines of a mountain-type facade :)

Not when looking at China  . . . but not exactly.

SE and the FW pavilions are attractive pieces of ART. Aesthetically beautiful in design.

What we're looking at here's a giant warehouse behind good ol' Canada.

Like I said, hope it gets themed/decorated. :)

At least the "warehouse" has a unique shape and curvature to its roof vs just being a big square box that would have been easier to build...I still have faith that WDI knows what they are doing....they put so much time and energy into designing the one out in DCA so it wouldn't be too huge and intrusive from within DL that I'm sure similar care went into the location of ours.

As for its visibilty from within the pavilion, Soarin' cannot be seen when walking beside Canada along the WS lagoon or from most parts of the pavilion or its gardens. If you go to the very top level of it however (Koda from brother Bear is usually up there.....its the uphill way to get to the CircleVision show) the VERY top of the roof can be seen....I didn't think it was too intrusive though.
