not too long ago i visited with a family who are huge disney fans and they didn't even know what philharmagic was... makes me scared for its future for sure. i'd love a new stage but I hope it isn't replacing this attraction:cry:

I guess it depends on what caliber show they are going for (assuming the rumor is true). Based on attached layout of the theater, the current space doesn't appear to have the back-stage area (or capability to expand the back stage area) to accommodate a show on the scale of just about anything that they have shown at the Hyperion Theater at DCA (the kind of theater I'd like to see at WDW). A show the size of the Alladin show or the Frozen show that they have shown at DCA requires a theater with essentially 3-4 times the off stage room as on stage room (typically equal [or near equal] areas to the left, right, behind, and above the portion of the stage that the audience can see). Not to mention all of the back of the house dressing rooms and staging areas and whatnot.

On the other hand, a show with a more or less a single set-piece or minimal set pieces (some iteration of Mickey's Magical Map) could possibly work here...

you're right I didn't think about the sizing issues at all, also they would probably want to seat more guests than what the theater currently can. I guess I'm just skeptical as to what disney is capable of in crushing my dreams lol! but thank you for showing me that!

As someone who work professionally in theater, I can say that the lack of "off stage" space and lack of dressing room space would limit this rooms ability to put on anything substantial.

A big ol' Broadway style theater with a high quality 45ish minute production put on several times a day would be quite welcome almost anywhere on property... (IMHO)
The MK could use a 2k theater capacity with a Aladdin From DCA style show shown 8 times a day. That is 16k fast passes plus reservations right there. Huge capacity machine for MK

With all the advances in screen and projection technology couldnt they just go with digital sets? Seems more efficient. I agree that WDW needs a Hyperion Theater. MK needs that people eater.

Is the building going to be themed? Or is generic box the look we are getting?

I don't think putting it in Adventureland is a good idea; they would be limited in the type of IPs they could put in there due to theming. Maybe put it behind Main Street towards Tomorrowland, that way any IP could go in there? It could be the actual 'Town Square Theatre'!

With the new movie coming out next year this show could work and require a minimal number of additional cast members

Not sure about previous talks, but in this thread I haven't seen anyone get it right so far.

WDW needs their own version of Disneyland Resort's Hyperion Theater; a massive 2,000 seat venue with technical and stage equipment capable of putting on cutting-edge Broadway shows.

Once Disneyland got the Hyperion Theater 16 years ago, I would have thought WDW would have wanted one for their own and had it up and running by 2005. But better late than never.
