Hi folks hoping to head to the Polynesian on my next trip and checking out the rates for next summer in the disney website it cost from $1500 - $2300 extra for a Lagoon/Magic kingdom view for a 2 week stay!!! I think this type of money could be well spent on other things, What do you guys think???

IMO, unless you have a parking lot/maintenance view, it is NOT worth the extra money to spend on a view.

We stayed at the Poly in January and had a beautiful view of the pool and the gardens but barely looked out.

Unless a view is very important to you, I'd skip the fancy one and spend your money elsewhere, as the nicer view rooms are very pricey.

Having a view is nice. But your not really in your room much. I think I end up spending about 15 minutes a trip looking at the view. But that is just me. If you are a person who likes to sit outside and have a drink or something in the morning or at night it might be worth it to you.

For us it depends on the trip:

- if we are there to hit the parks, then no, no view, in fact, we usually just stay at Pop Century then

- if we are there to relax at the resort, definitely pay for a Savannah view at AKL, and very possibly consider paying for a view at other resorts for morning coffee, afternoon tea, even private dinner on the balcony is great with the perfect view - even falling asleep with the shades open to see the view of the castle (had one once Woods View at WL, awesome)

Holy moly!! That's alot of money just for a view that you can walk out on the beach and sit in a hammock and enjoy just as well!!! When we stayed at the poly we had a room that faced the monerail as it zipped by and had bunnies come up and eating grass on the back patio area...I loved that view.

If you can afford it then choose your view.
If you can't afford it...then don't.

On our honeymoon we choose a Polynesian Conceirge room facing the lake and the Castle. (Hawaii Longhouse)We paid dearly for it but I figured it was a once in a lifetime thing. We had a ground floor room. It was nice to just slide the doors open and just stroll to the beach and lay in the hammocks.

On other vacations we get a cheaper room with a parking lot view. It's not as nice, but just being there makes it all good.

To me, some room upgrade options are worth it, some are not. This is one that I don't think is worth it!

We stayed at Poly last year, and we had a garden view room. Our patio was completely surrounded by greenery - it was terrific. Of course, not all are like that, but I just don't see the substantial extra expense on the view here.

having stayed at Poly , 2nd floor with a lagoon view, it was worth it for a few nights. You have a front row seat to the castle and to the electic water parade. in the morning we could hear the opening of MK and see the few fireworks they blasted off. My mom was with me and my 2 boys and she is a homebody and enjoys spending time in the room sitting on the balcony and watching the day go by. i could sleep in my rental car, so i guess if you have the $$$ go for it, the rooms are also a little bigger than the non-lagoon view rooms!

If you plan on spending large amounts of time in your hotel room, then maybe. Some people just prefer not to look at parking lots and so Disney charges more for that choice. Personally, I don't think it's worth it. (But then again I tend to leave my room about sunup and not get back til dark so a view wouldn't matter)

Thanx for the responses, im inclined to agree with you all, we are planning on going for 4 weeks on the next trip and if we stay all 4 at the poly then it could cost up to $5000 extra for the view and that would be more than half of our spending money! I also agree with the opinion tha the only place worth paying for a view is the Savannah view of the AKL, as im thinking bwt splitting the holiday between these 2 resorts it would probably be wise to go with the standard view at the poly

Ouch thats a lot of money. But if you can afford to do it, I say do it.
I'm such a conservative type of person that I always think of all the things money like that could be better used for. It doesn't matter to me whats outside my window. Have fun deciding. :)

Depends on your budget. For us, right now we can only afford to stay at the Poly if we get a garden view room. But...if we could afford it, we would probably get a MK view just for the heck of it. If money were no object, my ideal location at the Poly would be the MK view in the Hawaii longhouse.

Here is a little tip, which I got off of tikiman's website (I think you were given the link to it in your other thread). The Tokelau longhouse has some garden view rooms on the west side of the longhouse that not only can see the lagoon, but also have a sideways view of the castle. Of course there is no gaurentee that you will get what you request, but more often than not you will. Here is the link to my trip report when we stayed in the Tokelau longhouse...there are some pictures: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=381970&highlight=happymom's

Everyone has their favorite longhouse, and each has pros and cons that are different for each family depending on your wants/needs. Here are the reasons that my family loves the Tokelau:

It has a central location....it is an easy walk to the Ceremonial house as well as the Transportaion and Ticket Center. It is very close to the laundry facilities (on our last trip we stayed on the other side of the resort, and it was a HUGE pain to be far away from the laundry!!! So you might want to consider this when choosing a longhouse if you plan on doing laundry, which I assume you will be since it is such a long trip). It is also close to the bus stop.
Another thing we loved is that when steping outside the north end of the longhouse, you are just steps away from Sunset Point and the beach.

Also, the rooms are larger in Tokelau. Not by much, but enough to make a a noticiable difference for our family. It is also one of the longhouses that was refurbished in recent years.

Another tip....when choosing your longhouse that you want to request, have a second choice in mind, and maybe even a third. On our last trip, we had decided we wanted to try Figi...it is another popular longhouse, and since we were not planning on going to Epcot we did not care about being close to the TTC. However, when we checked in, they were unable to put us in Fiji because it was full (even though we had requsted Figi when we made our reservation months beforehand). I was caught off gaurd, because I did not have a back up location chosen. I was put on the spot and had to make a quick choice, so I told them to put us in Aotearoa because it is right behind Fiji. Big mistake....we were not happy with the longhouse or our location in the longhouse. So from now on, I will have a second and maybe third choice picked out beforehand, just in case.

Sorry, you asked about views, and all I talked about are lonhouses! But I know you are looking for as many opinions about the Poly as you can get!

No problem at all, i appreciate all the info, and it does look like a great longhouse to choose, he room looks huge!!!!!

I probably wouldn't pay for that specific view upgrade. The price is way to steep and like so many others have said... you can spend that money much more wisely.

However, on our most recent trip, I did pay for a room upgrade from standard to pool view at the AKL because it was only $10 more a day. And it was worth it to me to ensure that I didn't get a parking lot view or one of those atrocious balconies that is on the ground floor right in front of the bus stop (no privacy there whatsoever).
