Hi folks hoping to head to the Polynesian on my next trip and checking out the rates for next summer in the disney website it cost from $1500 - $2300 extra for a Lagoon/Magic kingdom view for a 2 week stay!!! I think this type of money could be well spent on other things, What do you guys think???

I probably wouldn't pay for that specific view upgrade. The price is way to steep and like so many others have said... you can spend that money much more wisely.

However, on our most recent trip, I did pay for a room upgrade from standard to pool view at the AKL because it was only $10 more a day. And it was worth it to me to ensure that I didn't get a parking lot view or one of those atrocious balconies that is on the ground floor right in front of the bus stop (no privacy there whatsoever).

Oh definately i would pay for that upgrade, thats only minimal!

I remember the old days well...when you could request a view, maybe you would get it, maybe you wouldn't, but if you got it you didn't have to pay more for it.

I'm inclined to agree that paying that much for a view may not be worth it. Even though I did pay for it the past 2 years at the Poly, YC, and Contemporary.

We took advantage of the view every night after the parks closed. My wife and I would sit out on the balcony, sip wine or champagne and talk for an hour or two or three, about the day and what we wanted to do the next day as our kids slept in the room. All the while taking in the wonderful view we had.

As expensive and beautiful the view was, I struggle trying to justify it. We're not rich by any means. We like to go all out on our vacations, but we stop and ask ourselves at what point are we being foolish with our money?

Maybe I'd have done better just going to bed earlier instead of taking in the view, I would have had more energy the next day.

My wife and I are considering in the future of not requesting a particuliar view on our next trip to WDW, whenever that may be.

But you are going to be there for a long time, maybe having a nice view is worth it? I will assume your going to be in your room a lot if your there for a month. That being said poly does have a lot of nice standard views.

Yeah thats what id be hoping for, if we do get a parking lot view then so be it, even being in the room alot still makes it v hard to justify an extra $5000 for a view i can see from a hammock on the beach

I am probably the wrong one to ask, since right now the most I can afford is a moderate hotel for 10 days. So I would definitely not pay that kind of money for a view upgrade.

The one thing that bothers me is noise. So if it were a choice between being stuck in a room next to the garbage dumpster, or in front of where the busses warm up in the morning, etc., then I'd consider to pay a small amount for an upgrade just to get ANYTHING else.

But I've been pretty lucky with special requests being honored. And if we're really not happy with a specific room assignment, I think that usually the desk can move us into something else that would be satisfactory without an upgrade.

I remember those days too - but you can thank those guests who stood at check in screaming at CM''s about their denied requests for bunk beds at WL and AKL - and MK views at MK resorts - those people made Disney realize that they could and probably should charge more for different room categories so that these "guests" could guarantee their specific requests - and not ruin their vacation by not getting their "requests"....

From my perspective, on all but 1 resort the answer would be NO, and that one exception is Animal Kingdom Lodge, where I would say that it is worth paying extra for the Savannah view, as the animals are basically the highlight of the resort (although the resort's theming is excellent as well). As long as you don't get a view of the maintenance areas or a completely bare parking lot, then your typicial standard view should be fine.

I think it all depends on what kind of vacation you are going for. For me, when I stayed there, I was 5 months preggo and knew we'd be spending a lot of time back in our room. It was so nice at the end of the day to sit on our balcony overlooking MK, watching the fireworks and the water parade every single night. So, for us it was worth it since we were spending a lot of time in our room. BUT, if you are planning on spending the majority of your time in the parks and only sleeping in your room, then just go with the standard view.

I'm a huge "view" person and spend a ton of time on the balcony.
But that's waaaaaaaay too much extra money.
You can always relax on the beach to enjoy the great views at the Poly.

I've paid extra for a Savannah view room at AKL but that's kind of the whole point of AKL so IMO, it's worth it. However, I don't think I would be able to bring myself to pay $1500 for a nicer view - certainly it would be great but $1500 is a nice fund for another holiday!

Room with a view?!?

You may consider upgrading to a vacation club villa at Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Boardwalk or the new Villas at the Contemporary. One bedrooms come complete with in-room laundry facilities and kitchens. Eating out for all meals can become expensive and the cost differential may be worth looking into the DVC villas. You can look at the new Contemporary Villas on line and see what they offer. 4 weeks is a long time. They do offer lagoon views and magic kingdom views.

Yeah we almost joined DVC on our last trip, the rooms in bay lake tower are stunning! Only reason we didnt was because we want to stay at the poly and the points system to stay their is quite expensive!
