As the title says, is it?

Myself and "she who must be obeyed" were on the DVC tour last summer and were almost going to sign up for I think 160 points at AKL, take the fact thats its $2=£1 it was quite good.

Now, for just the 2 of us, to visit probably once every 2 years in July is it worth the investment?

In a few weeks it will be our 6th visit in 11 yrs so any advice welcome.

Thanks in advance

While the pound / dollar ratio remains strong and if you're prepared to visit WDW every other year then it probably makes a worthwhile investment.

No, the annual dues are too high and who knows where the cost of trans atlantic air faire is going. And it may limit your resort flexibility.

there's 2 kinds of people in the world -

DVC members who love it and everyone else who thinks it isn't a good deal.

Good luck to you in your decision. Most importantly, what does "she who must be obeyed" want?

IMO???

If you can simply afford it, I would say Yes...

If you have take a loan for this, I would definitely say NO...
(never teke a loan on timesharing)

Hope this helps.

Ive always said it was something we did with our hearts not our heads. And they were definitely economic with the cost of annual dues.

The reason I urge caution to any one from my side of the pond is that its a long term commitment and who knows where Al Bore and his cronies will get with their save the planet, stop living guff and the impact that will have on travel costs.

In terms of saving money I used to get an AP and have never paid fulll price for a Disney stay yet, so its ifs and buts as to savings. Being part of the DVC gang is more about belonging rather than shrewd buisness.

IMHO of course :)

For me it is, but I live on this side of the Atlantic. Sak has a point, that if trans-atlantic airfares went through the roof, it becomes less of a deal for UK and Europe.

Me? I can always drive, or likely will be able to anyways. I bought 250 points cash last year, and am pleased with it. I have the ability to buy more, but am not going to, at least not for now.

IMHO YES! But you will get many different opinions.

I too am from the UK but I go twice a year every year, this year i am going 3 times (greedy!). So as I go so much it is def worth it for me. I tend to pick the quieter times and therefore less points hence I can drag 2 vacations out of my 210 points each year. I also stay offsite for the first one or 2 nights maybe at the beach or something rather than use too many points on Fri/Sat nights. I like to check in Dinsey early in the morning to get the full use and try and get a room in the area where we want, if you land from UK at 3 like we do by the time you get to Disney its 5 at least and I feel like its a waste of points so we normally arrive on a Thurs/Fri and stay offsite Thirs/Fri and sat and move to Disney on the Sunday for 12 nights.

Prob not as good value if you are only going every other year but would still be very expensive to stay at deluxe resort if you was not DVC and continued to come every other year. You should comare the cost of staying at deluxe against 2 years annual dues cost.

For me it isn't just owning the points to make sense financially its feeling you are part of Disney which I dont think you can beat!

Good luck with your decision!

Heaven forbid I tick off a fellow Marillion fan, but allow me a few points.
Currently, there are 6 DVC resorts (or Deluxe/DVC hybrids) and a seventh being built. Anything can happen, but the pattern 4eems to be getting DVC units in most if not all deluxe resorts. So "resort felexibilty" becomes more of an issue if you like breaking things up with a stay in a mod or value resort. Personally, I don't find the dues too high, but if they ever become unreasonable, I'll sell. If you'll allow me the fantasy/luxury of deducting the trips I've taken as a cost with a dollar sign attached to it, I won't have lost money (in other words, I'll be selling for less than what I paid, but I've also taken 3 trips equalling 25 days, so even including the cost of dues, it balances out). And the cost of fuel has just as much (at least) to do with instability in the mideast compounded by Bush's war with Iraq plus runaway deficit spending that weakens the dollar & mucks up the global economy, as it has to do with Gore worrying about carbon footprints. Let's not think Seasons' End is just a hippie problem or a Hogarth album.

How long would your trips be for? With 2 people I normally feel a studio is just fine.

Also are all the DVC differences ok with you (like trash and towel and no housekeeping daily?) I read about a women who must have a fresh towel daily and she was a DVC member and trying to figure out a way to get around it.

If you need fresh towels daily or something like that DVC might not be the best for you.

Otherwise I agree, if you can afford it then go for it. We love it and wish we had sooner.

We just stayed at AKL and I must admit it got old being that far away from everything. The bus ride was long and the bus service was not that good (but I hear that was across property. ) You can stay at any resort, and take a trip over to Vero Beach while in FLA so that would be a good bonus too.

You can also use your points for other things so if you can't get to FLA could go someplace closer to home if needed. Not the best value or use of points, but still might be something to consider.

1. My comment on the resorts was based on being limited to the home resort, given the issues Ive just had for May and Nov.
2. Theres a move in this country to demonise long hall flyers, and the chances are generate some ill conceived legislation from the government.
3. The dues are more than we were forecast at the sales pitch, ie were paying in pounds what we expected to pay in $$$.

As ive always maintained its an emotional decison not financial.

Oh and as a reminder Ive ordered my tickets and pre ordered the special edition album to get my name on the sleeve.
:animwink:
