Hi i was wondering i anyone knew that to become an employee at disney you have to abey a strict policy. What i've heard is:
-Your not allowed bleached hair or dyed
-No peircings
-No tatoes
-And if you dont smile You get the sack.
-??You have to have a living Uncle?? (really not sure about that one!)

If anyones knows anymore strict rules the Disney workers have to abey by, or if any of this is true i woulld very intrested and greatful to know!!

I know that the hear rule is true and men can't have piercings and woman can only have their ears pierced. Tatoos are not allowed to be visible, and for a long time men could not have facial hair, but know I think they let them have a small mustache but nothing more (this changed like last year).

The hair rule is true to an extint, if it is dyed it has to be a natural color and look natural on the person. You can have tattoo's as long as they are not visible.

I have never heard the uncle thing before, that is a new one to me. I guess that I was asleep when they covered that in traditions, lol.

pardon the term, but i hear theyre nazis when it comes to their work policies. I have a friend who did the intern program through the school in disney world and they had to be in by 10 or 10:30 (lights out) and depending on the season had to work 30-50 hours per week. I also heard about the no tattoos policy (at least they must be covered) and the piercings (women can have one in each ear, men none). I didnt hear about the uncle thing. Disney runs a tight ship, and i think you would need to because they are a premier (IMO) vacation desitnation. People want to go to Disney and get the Disney treatment. And we all know, disney treatment is first class.

Personally, i would like to work there. :hammer:

Yup they're strict...

As for the cerfew for the internship... 10:30?!! I don't think so. As far as I know there is no cerfew. CPers work late and return to their apartments much later than that and Pleasure Island happens to be a hot spot for CPers so I seriously doubt that not being in at 10:30 is a grounds for termination.

Also...I don't see why anyone who chooses to participate in the CP would complain about those hours...more hours = more money and most CP alumnis tell me the pay SUCKS so being able to work extra hours puts some extra cash in your pocket.

I would also like to do the CP but that means my hairs gotta go along w/ the side burns lol but thats a sacrafice I'm willing to make! :D

They ARE strict...to a point. For example...If you work in the parks..yes...you have to follow EVERY rule..

Animation..they are a bit more lax...

Imagineering..even more so...

You are right on some of the grooming do´s and don´ts. Personally, I agree with all of them!

Responding to the ones you posted :
a) Dyed hair is not allowed IF it is done in a non natural color, but you are also encouraged to dye it even, when the roots start to show. So you should always be well groomed.

b) no piercings: you can have all the piercings you want but when you are on stage, you are not wearing the rings! Of course, if your piercing is extremely visible even without the ring, then u are in trouble... Women can only wear one earring on each ear and the earring has to be of a certain size.

c) the rule is: no visible tatooes

d) the rule is: "make eye contact and smile". I believe this is an obvious thing! Believe me, it is NOT hard to do it while you are on stage! (well... most of the times ;) ) Of course, you are encouraged to do it! People are coming to the happiest place in the world! You expect smiles everywhere and not long faces.

e) I don´t know what you mean about the living uncle. Please explain to me that one. :veryconfu

Hope this helps...;)

Hey there. If you go to the Disney Website and select Careers there is a section in there that goes over physical appearance for a position within the parks and yes they are strict. I never saw anything official about having an Uncle though.

a further earring requirement. If you have multiple piercings, your one earing per ear must be on the LOWEST piercing:) Also, no tongue rings! If you are a character, all you can do, I believe, is make a kissing noise or sneeze! Personally, I don't really have a problem with any of these rules...I would love to be a Cast Member!

Well the face characters can talk. And If the masked characters talked they would kill the dreams for the little kids, because no one can really do the voices right.

oh...I completely understand why they can't talk...but it'd be tough. I give them SO much credit...especially when they are out there in parades when it's 95 out w/ 90% humidity...now THAT's devotion!

That must be the worst. That is why when they are meet and greet characters they go inside every few minutes in the summer. It is rare that they ever stay out more than 10-15 minutes without a break.

I believe you have to be onstage for 30 minutes until it gets to a temperature (not heat index) of 90, at which point it is reduced to 20 minutes on stage. You have to give them a lot of credit...

Speaking from experience I can tell you that YES! it is hot in there! I was Sleepy in the MSEP and man did it get hot! I wore a sweat headband to keep the sweat from dripping into my eyes, and when we were done, I could always, always ring it out to make a huge puddle! GROSS! Underneath all I had were cotton bike shorts and a t-shirt, and they were always soaked through as well! I can't imagine doing that every day for months and months!!

It´s 20 mins approx. but shouldn´t be more, and they always have an escort to help out just in case...

I always say that strict rules are ok as long as it shows in the product. In Disney it definitely shows. A lot of companies have very strict policies but their companies suck. Sad, sad, sad.

As a former participant in the College Program and as a Campus Rep I can tell you with no doubt that there is no curfew! Once you are out of work, you are free to do what you want. They don't care if you sleep at all, as long as when you get to work the next day you are able to do your job with a smile. If anyone has any other questions about the College Program I would love to answer!
