I know a place where whining doesn't happen as much, but here's what happens, and this is childish really, www.______________.com, now notice when I do another site like www.laughingplace.com it doesn't block it out. Isn't that wrong?

What are you trying to type in that URL. This forum blocks some strange words, that could be either offensive, or part of an offensive word. It's not because it is "the competition"

As far as whining, it's a two headed beast, and we have both heads around here.

Case in point, the thread about person who was upset about not getting a notification his shirt was not printed.

He did not whine, or rail, or say anything excessive. He said he ordered a shirt, and the order was cancelled (because of a mistake he made) but nobody told him the order was cancelled - they just said it was complete.

A number of people then jumped down his throat. Making snide passive/agressive comments, pointing out how he was wrong, and questioning the validity of his original post.

While there are people here who will nit-pick and decry everything Disney does, there are others who will jump in to smack down anyone who says the least bad thing about Disney.

I try to present both sides of the picture. They is nothing wrong with calling out a problem when it is a problem, just as there is nothing wrong with parise where praise is due.

The thing I see a lot of people doing is stating a fact, and then attaching speculation to it as additional fact. Such as "SGE is in a poor state of repair" - thats a fact - "because they don't care about it, and want to run it into the ground before they replace it" thats opinion. It may be true, but until somone gets me proof or inside information, then it is not a fact.

Think back to the first time you were ever at Disney World. It was all too much and too grand and so many fabulous magical things every where you turn. The next time you return you saw many more things you missed before. And so on and so on. If you have been so many times the big major things become ordinary then you start looking for other things. Backstage things too that ruin the illusion of the magic for many. Paint that is a little chipped becomes noticed because you have seen everything before. You have seen the boardwalk with all the light bulbs on so a few burnt out become noticed and not up to standard.
It is just human nature and would be the same anywhere. Try to get past the nit pickiness and just enjoy your stay!! There are many of us that don't get the chance to go often enough to ruin the magic!!

What I don't like about the whining is when people don't see the various sides of the issue. It's easy to say that some attraction or other was better way back when, but be ignorant of the vital changes that are often needed to bring in a broader base. Or even to realize that it's impossible to always hit a home run. I hate the new Tommorrowland Transit Authority narration because it is such an obvious step back from the original. I complain about that, make my case to whomever cares to read about it, and move on. Call it whining, or call it a trumpet call to bring in something better without spending a million dollars to do it.

But I also prefered the Spaceship Earth narration of Jeremy Irons over Judi Dench, but I don't whine about that because the Dench narration has its merits, and was part of a needed SE overhaul. It would probably also cost millions to redo it with Jeremy Irons and make it all fit together with the rest of the overhaul; and it would also take away the Dench narration that some people prefer.

Constructive criticism is a necessary thing, but whining because something is gone while it is obvious that bringing it back would be a cost-prohibitive pipe dream is rather naive. It often comes off like the toddler who wants wants wants every new toy, but has no idea about cost or the fact that he will grow tired of most of those toys within a day. Or even the teenager who keeps asking for a car when her parents simply can't afford it or the insurance that would go with it.

Mr. Toad, Horizons, 20,000 Leagues and World of Motion aren't coming back. Get over it. Gaps in good service, mediocre food, and uninspired narrations ARE fixable. Whine away--productively.

And also remember, those good old days didn't have many of the new attractions like Soarin' and Expedition Everest that we now like, didn't have Fastpass (which most of us think is great), and limited your options with A thru E tickets. The golden age, if you come to think about it, was probably not that golden compared to now. Only through the rose colored glasses of nostalgia are they really that great, like that movie that you used to think was so good but just doesn't stand up any more.

Yes, some things were better back when, but they're gone. Get over it. Some things could be better, and criticizing constructively may result in some changes. Criticize away, but don't ruin the experience for everyone else along the way.

I don't mind the whining, everyone has their own opinion. It's the insulting that goes on every so often that's annoying. We're all arm chair quarterbacks when it comes to how Disney should be run and what they should or should not be doing.

Some sites have no hot linking allowed, due to problems in the past with members from one site coming here when their site was down, or coming here specifically to trash their site. There are plenty of sites out there who are set up for that particular purpose, so there is no need to bring drama from other sites here.

I really don't like hot linking, but I know some people like to share information.

don't forget to include horizons

I miss some of the "discontinued" attractios/shows myself, but progress is moving foreward, not back. Some things just run there course I guess.

I would have to agree. Gamers are followed closely by Star Wars fans. I have gotten to the point where I do not even go into gaming or Star Wars message boards because they have degraded into being nothing more than page after page of a b%$#h fest.
I tend to stick to just theforce.net forums and then only to the lit sections.

They aren't too bad in there.

Of course, I'm one of those whiny fans that complains about Karen Traviss...so there is that...:ROFLOL:

Most of the whiners that were here are now at the place where you say there is no whining....I guess you have to agree with most of what they say there to not have them whine..

Why is that wrong anyway?

Most of the people on that site talked a lot of BS about this site or are obsessed with them...you would think they would not care about it as much as they do.

I can honestly say when I joined these forums I was completely surprised to see how many people were upset with so much of Disney. I thought it was going to be a bunch of fans sitting around talking it up and sharing great memories.

I realize now that there is room for healthy discussion, but what I think some people do not realize is there is a difference in constructive criticism and discussion and just kvetching.

I am also amazed how some people get so attached to certain issues and let it ruin their experience here or at WDW. I also do not like it when people attack a poster personally, nit-pick the most minute detail of a post just to try and prove themselves more knowledgeable or superior, or constantly restate their opinion as fact.

But those are small peeves, only happen occasionally, and come from a very small part of the community. For the most part I find the forums informative and enjoyable. I learn new things all the time and have fun sharing the insider knowledge I have.
