Is fastpass being installed at Dumbo?

Over at mouseplanet they are reporting that paperwork has been filed in the construction of a fastpass system in the form of a clocktower. Now I hope this doesn't happen only because the wait time is already long. Could you imagine what it will be like if they implement fastpass.

It would be somewhat silly to do this at this point as the Dumbo that we know today will cease to exist in a year or two.

Pure speculation, but I wonder if its not actually a fastpasss for Dumbo they are planning, but actually a centralized fastpass location that will go where dumbo was once it moves off to the toontown area. If they make a structure and theme it to a clock tower, it might look nice.

The stand-by line would increase dramatically.

I have never understood this concern... That's why one uses FP: to not have to stand in the stand-by line. We've always either used FP, gotten in a short stand-by line, or bypassed an attraction with a long stand-by. Seems that's what FP is for.

I hope not imo the only attractions that should have FP are the major E's.

Peter Pan has fastpass and is not an E ticket, but has an E ticket wait time.

The fastpass is a godsend because it drives me nuts to wait in the standby line for up to an hour on some days for that silly little ride that the women in my family absolutely can't live without.

You may be right PPF might be an exception but nobody will ever convince me that something like Buxx SRS needs FP.

I'm not sure what you read - I didn't look that hard, but I didn't see anything at MousePlanet about a Dumbo FP. However, early reporting on the new Dumbo that will be constructed as part of the Fantasyland Expansion is that it will include a new "queueless" ride queueing system. Instead of standing in line, waiting riders would be able to freely roam a designated area which would have some kind of activities with which they could amuse themselves, such as games or a playground or something. Riders would be issued something like a FP, except that instead of a time window it would contain a group number. There would be some way to announce the current group number, and when your turn comes up you go and board the ride.

Look at today's park update on the site.

Ugh! Call me a germaphobe, but hubby, myself, and the kids avoid touching those things like the plague, for fear of getting, well, the plague...

Ah, there it is. Well, like I said, I didn't look very hard.

Anyway, very little detail - in fact nothing more specific than what the OP said. To me, it doesn't seem to really contradict what we've already heard with respect to the queueless entry system. Still, interesting...

When it opened in Paris, the carpets had fastpass. I'd be surprised if it were considered a success, but who knows.

This was discussed last week in the Permit Thread, beginning at Post # 312.

The actual Permit (which is actually a Notice of Commencement) filed with the Orange County Recorder, can be viewed here. It appears to have originally been filed on April 3, 2009 and was renewed on July 14, 2010.

It's very unlikely that they're filing this permit/notice for work that won't be done for over a year from now (i.e. for the future Dumbo or for something new going in its current location). Dumbo isn't part of Phase 1, so it will be a while before it moves.

However, I also find it hard to believe that they'd install FP on a cycle-ride with such limited capacity. It would only be able to issue 15 or 20 FP's per hour, or otherwise it wouldn't be worth getting one at all.

My guess is that this is for something unrelated to Dumbo, and they just happened to put "Dumbo" in the description of the permit. They also filed another permit on the same day, at the exact same street address, with no reference to Dumbo.

Isn't the new Dumbo supposed to give you something like a buzzer like what you get when you check in at a restaurant, after which you are encouraged to stay in the tent playing carnival games until it is your time to board your Dumbo?

That was my understanding of what I read was planned for the dual Dumbo when it opens in its new location as part of the Fantasyland Expansion.

I've seen this address being used for other jobs in different Fantasyland locations as well. Perhaps the permit is being used for the Mickey's PhillarMagic FASTPASS distribution? The address could pertain to the Fantasyland courtyard itself, but not necessarily the specific attractions in it.
