Is Disney World Safe

Interesting MK parking/security article:

I wasn't surprised but disappointing.
no offense, but any parking lot can be a spot for burglary. What seems a little weird is that in this day and age, someone would park a car with a computer, presents, and a loaded gun. seems a little off.
Lack of cameras could be a little worrying, but keeping $1000's of dollars worth of stuff in your car?

Most of us have seen behind-the-scenes looks at things like casino-level security and surveillance, that put places like airports and theme parks to shame. The technology is, and has been, available. But it's a cost/benefit issue. We'll never see that level of security at a theme park.

In all seriousness, WDW isn't safer nor more dangerous than any where else... In fact, it may be a tad more dangerous since it is always going to be a target for the crazies...

The most bizarre line was that Disney Security was upset that the guests called 911.
If it isn't reported to "real" police it isn't recorded in official records as a crime.

My son had that issue with his University that had security officers vs sworn officers. His IPhone was stolen from his room. He really had an idea who took it from his dorm. Security just made a report. I sent him to the police department to file an official report and police investigated. Security told my son it wasn't necessary they had a report. Right. When the student who he suspected got nabbed by police for something else the police knew who the IPhone belong to.

And kudos for the article for exposing the issue. I remember this being an issue at the Water Parks and they put the scissor lift eye in the sky AFTER the media exposed the problem.

And you are so correct. There isn't a cost/benefit to Disney to protect guests vehicles or belongings especially when they are not under the microscope for having an issue they are not addressing.

At WDW, or any other place, you will NOT be "safe" - depending on how you define safety. Absolute safety? Well - a good start is the elimination of every human but YOU. I guess that would do it... humans have been eliminating other humans for thousands of years. Another human driving an innocent car COULD kill your entire family. Never seen a cat do this :).

Trotsky stands corrected.

Just kidding. :p

I think Disney does a pretty fair job of MINIMIZING our risks - they simply can NOT eliminate them. Life is a risk - dead in a bus accident, or dead by a bomb is still dead. I'm personally going to worry more about the bus accident :).

...Same here.
