I assume it will marginally increase attendance, but I don't think it will take anything away from Uni.

There is no way it will stop Harry Potter fans from going to see Harry Potter, but it might keep people in the AK longer and decrease hopping.

Agreed. If decreases hopping, less sales of park hoppers, less $$$ to TDO. Unexpected negative result of spending on Avatar.

No chance, it's an intellectual property without a built-in fanbase. Quick ... name two characters from the film. I can't even name one (I can't even remember what the main character's name was).

Compare this to an intellectual property like Star Wars - where my 70 year old mother could name at least 10 characters (and where I could name probably 30-50 off the top of my head). Same thing with Harry Potter - I've seen one of the films and have never read the books, but I can name at least 10 of the film's characters.

Avatarland is obsolete before they start construction.

It depends on what the new land has in terms of attractions. It's far too early to know simply because we pretty much NOTHING about this new land.

gate clicks = everyone will want to see the new stuff

Key is if it keeps people in AK longer and increases spending. Those are the key metrics.

That is one of the major problems with Star Wars if you ask me. I don’t think Star Wars is as big in the “kid” world as Harry Potter is. You ask a first grader someone from Star Wars and someone from Harry Potter, I would bet Harry Potter would be more known then Star Wars. Star Wars for me just seems… old. I think young adults, around my age of 19 would enjoy Harry more then Star Wars and Avatar. Just my opinion though and I’ll probably be flamed for it but… yea.

I think the biggest problem with Animal Kingdom is the lack of nighttime hours. You either have to have a park hopper or find something non- park related to do in the evening. Most people would choose to go to this park once if they don't have park hopper as it is seen as a waste of a night or choose to not go at all. Why should we go to AK for 11 hrs when we can go to MK or Epcot for 16 or HS for 14. It sounds like they are adding nights in the near future and Avatarland will help with the night time activities. If it does hit these attendance numbers I would attribute it more to having nighttime activities than to having the addition of Avatarland.

Avatar and Potter attract wildly different people. Potter has a massive and loyal fan base that spans multiple generations...Avatar was just a movie people enjoyed. I know it was one of the most successful movies of all time but that doesn't mean the sequels will be or that people will care and be invested in the franchise. Personally I still think Avatar land was not the right direction, but it will be interesting to see it completed and I'm sure it will be done well.

That is a chicken and the egg problem... there are no night time hours because the park can't keep people interested and occupied for a full day and into those night time hours. They need more for people to see and do to keep the demand there for longer days.. and then they can extend hours more regularly. That was part of the mission with the new offerings for DAK... to extend the day.

funny you say this my brother and I are both teachers and we did a pop culture survey with our students (ages 12-18)....one question was about what would you rather see Star wars, HP, or LOTR...it wasn't even close HP won by a land slide....not saying its scientific but it says something to me

I am thinking they will not move on a Star Wars land/area at DHS until the first new movie comes out. If the movie is a big success, and they do a good job with the Star Wars parks additions, WDW will be in a good position to continue to dominate. Yeah, HP may always beat out Avatar and Star Wars, but Disney can't build a HP park, haha.

It also seems that the attraction and draw to Uni now is just for HP. WDW has much more than that.

well I agree with your first paragraph but it was already reported by Comcast CEO the big attendance hike from Transformers

Star wars will see a boost after the movies come out

I have seen polls set up on non-theme park related forums about Star Wars vs Potter and Potter never wins. Potter is never close. Especially on video game forums.

Jimmy Thick- Even on this forum I doubt Potter would win.

Not shocking the kids that voted star wars were typically boys and for lack of a better word geeky/gamers
So star wars would help for boys thats for sure
