Alright, let me get this straight. A lot of people are complaining because the Military, which is a branch of the government, wants to go into public schools to recruit people, and public schools are government funded. So I ask you, how can any sane person believe that this is invasion of privacy? Oh yeah I know, because CNN lies!!!!!!!!
Well said Turbogames!:D

Thank you Darrel. This is also one of the reasons I want to go into politics. Because people believe that the military shouldn't be in public schools, and many other reasons.

It's not 'da gov' who I'm worried about, but how my sister could be coaxed to give my new address to the milatary. Never said it had to be the same person. I never want to be part of the military. NEVER. We have ROTC. We have Norfolk and the Navil Accadamy. Get them from there. Sure, I know the gov probably knows everything about me to my XMas list to what tennis shoe I wear, but the last thing I want is them to force me to join the military by what something my innocent sister said in high school.

They don't force you. They send you a letter or call you. All you have to do is throw that letter out or hang up on them, just like a credit card offer through the mail or by telemarketer. Its not like there going to bring the tanks to your house and kidnap you and then brainwash you to join the military. So calm down.

Invasion of privacy Blah. Hey we live in a country were we take freedom for granted. Hummm no! Freedom was earned on the battlefield. Hey it could be worse how does this sound MANDITORY SEVICE. That’s right boys and girls you hit 18, graduate and don’t go into college and Uncle Sam comes knocking on you door with a MP band on his arm.
Hey if it giving out my name to military doesn’t mean that I'm pack a small duffle bag and head out to sea. We're growing up in a culture that looks down on the military. We tell our kids not to join go to college and make $1,000,000. The military isn't right for you. It's too bad because one day when Bob or Sue doesn’t come home because we don't have enough people defending us you'll be feeling pretty bad.
Oh and enlighten me. I don't remember any one at high school asking me if I was Gay or not. How does that violate the don't ask don't tell policy. GOD some times I just want to find these people and hit them with a stick.
When America was attack last year more than 50% of the people said they would rather go to Canada than fight in a war. When we as a people don't want to give anything back to the country that makes us all so prosperous there is some thing wrong. Hey if you don't want your name going to the military then get out of a government funded school. Hey if my county calls my name then I'm going and those kids should too.
So Tramp and grizzlyhall looks like im with you.

P.S. If you want to know I'm not a Bush fan.

I hate Bush too, but look at what I ALSO said. We have ROTC in our school. It's JAMMED. We have around 120 kids in there. Why would they want to talk to ME? I'm a Segway fan, FIRST participant, Disney geek.

Just to tell everyone but when people say that they are not a Bush fan it surprisingly doesn't bother me. I think that he was the better choice out of the two candidates but to a strong hearted conservative he is too far left, I believe that he is doing an ok job but it can be better.

(My personal opinion)

People like this? What exactly type of person am I? YOU were the one who mentioned BUSH as if HE was responsible for this imagined invasion of privacy. I just wanted to set the record straight that before anyone bashed MY President about this, they should know that the murderer in Massachusetts sponsored the bill...are there any facts I missed here or are you too young to remember Mary Jo Kopekne?

Ya know, Gary...I've got a headache listening to all the friggin whining in this forum...and I've reached my limit...I'm sick of arguing with know-it-all kids and so-called adults with kid brains...I don't need it and I've had it.

Just thought I would let you know how it is here:

When guys turn 18 they have to go to a draft (there is one once a year) and if you get chosen, you will have to do the "military service" every saturday for a year. If you are not chosen, you are given your papers and you are free! If you were chosen and didn´t complete the service, then you can´t get a passport, or an official id, and without it, you are a nobody. Sooo... that makes it obligatory.

Just last year, they started making it "optional" for women. They choose if they want to do it or not.

Since you're here, I might as well drop my bit of info:

You turn 18, you're a man, you choose among army, navy and air force and YOU ARE THERE for a whole year. If the guy hasn't finished high school, he can finish it before going. College goes on hold, work goes on hold. The only way to escape is if you work to support your family or you have some sort of physical problem (ie. I've got a case of strong myopia, so I got out).

And they call it a democracy, you know...

How much did you have?

I'm still afraid of that, I know people that got it back after a while, and people that ended up blind... :lookaroun Of course, I also know a lot of people who are fine, so I'm just a big chicken... :D

sorry about the thread drift

You are a big chicken! Nothing compares to being able to see the leaves of the trees from the distance! (and my "distance" was very close already!)
I think I had 5 dioptrias or around that. I had surgery in May 98, costed me around $1,600usd, and I did it in Mexico City where the most advanced machine and most famous doctor were, so I went with him and skipped the ones here.
As far as I remember they had me "tranquilized" and waiting for my turn in a very nice area with leather "reposets" for about 90 minutes while they put drops in my eyes to numb them. When my turn came, it took him 10 minutes total to do it and I walked out of there with some clear goggles to avoid dust. (I won´t say details because that has changed now and also because you may chicken out more!) hehe...

My recovery was of 30 days without exercising (like I would!) trying not to touch my eyes or scrub them, of course, and without make up.

A friend of mine had it last year, it took 10 minutes too, but he didn´t have to wait in the nice room with the "surgery outfit" or anything! He walked in there with his suit, got some drops immediately before the laser came and that was it! He walked out of there!. He was driving and having a normal life three days after. Times have changed!

Now... my vision is not perfect, I still have some astigmatism left on my eyes that bother me, but I´m ready for second rounds when I get the money to do it. The doctors can´t assure you perfection you know, and if it comes back, it´s because after all, it is in your genes! So there is no way to know, but it is sure worth the try!

Oh well... time to shut up now and go back to the military subject if you feel like it. :animwink: Thanks for reading, sorry about the drift! :animwink:

Ok- we wouldn't be in the situation of a dishelved military if CLINTON hadn't dismantled the military but let's not get into that whole thing. Listen my uncle is the head of the National Guard in Rhode Island and my godson has just enlisted. He is going to Providence College on a ROTC scholarship which pays $17,000 a year, free room and board, $600 a semester for books and $350 a month stipend because he believes in freedom and wants to be in the military with aspirations of going into the FBI or CIA. I hate to think of him fighting for freedom for people who buy into the whole "Let's just give peace a chance thing...". This is the United States we were built on the ideals of freedom and liberty but they came with a price a price that still has be paid. So buck it up and who cares if the government has you name and phone number?? Do you really believe that they don't have it now?

Another thing- how many of can actually vote??? How can you say you hate the president? In another time it would be considered treason to utter such words and now it's just socially exceptable to say that you hate the leader of our country. Well if you hate him so much and what he stands for why don't you just go to another country or better yet why don't you emulate the lifestyle of someone who has no respect for the office (ie. Clinton), my girlfriend worked for Clinton and let me tell you it's not something that she brags about today. Kids these days have no respect for this country or those who try to make it a better place to live. I see it in my son and politics is what puts bread and butter on his plate!! NO RESPECT!! Most of you who criticize the government want it all from the government. I am sorry I am so rambling but it outrages me to see people criticize those in authority!!

But we can and have always been able to criticize our government without fear of prosecution and that’s what makes America so great.
